Making 'expire_fragment' available to a model?
I noticed a lot of repetition across different Sweeper models in my app expiring the same fragments and so have been trying to move all the expire_fragment calls into another model which the sweepers can then use but it''s not working as I''d hoped.. I''ve created a CacheDestroyer model and want to be able to call something to the effect of:

How to restart server programmatically?
I need to be able to restart my server based on a specific database change. I''ve been trying a call to system("script/process/reaper -a graceful -d dispatch.fcgi") but that raises a transaction error which rolls back the save. I wasn''t aware that after_save would rollback. That''s potentially useful but pretty much not right now. Here''s my code: def

undefined method `time_zone=' on Rails 2.0.2.9129 on Mac OS X
I just did a gem update and it broke my rails application. I had to go back to 2.0.2, because 2.0.2.9129 produces this error on Mac OS X Leopard: /Users/nicholas/RubyDev/dummy/config/environment.rb:38: undefined method `time_zone='' for #<Rails::Configuration:0x12c9f24> (NoMethodError) from /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/rails-2.0.2/lib/initializer.rb:47:in `run'' from

Moving page_cache_directory
Howdy. I''m working on a RoR CMS and need cached pages to all be in public/cache rather than public [in order to set svn:ignore on all the files properly]. I can get page_cache_directory set correctly and the pages are cached in the right place but Mongrel isn''t serving them because it''s only looking for them in public. During development I know I can set -r public/cache

RSpec raising routing errors where Rails doesn''t?
Hopefully someone here can help me figure out why the ERB: <% form_for(@fund, :url => {:host => PRIVATE_HOST}, :html => {:class => ''fund'', :multipart => true}) do |f| %> raises an error in my specs: No route matches {:action=>"index"} but works fine in my app and generates the following, desired HTML: <form

Patch idea for rspec_on_rails
I recently wrote a matcher for testing AR associations which allows you to specify things like: Foo.should have_many(:bars).through(:bazes) I''m pretty darned proud of it and a couple of people have suggested that I should submit it to the rspec_on_rails project. Before I go to the trouble of writing out rdoc and fully spec''ing it, I just wanted to make sure this was

dynamic tablenames
Hi List! May I tap into your combined common sense ? I have a legacy logging app that needs to be modernized. At the moment, Data is going to be stored in 5 tables, one table is going to contain more than 200 million and 2 others about 60 million rows. Mysql will be used, unless someone sees a major advantage in using something else (at the moment data is stored in a raw positioned file format,

negate the regexp in validates_format_of
Railsters: ActiveRecord''s validation system puts other database systems to shame. However, the newbies might not know how to write a regexp that excludes a match, instead of tests for it. Understand - I''m just asking this question to help them. I have been using Regexps since ''grep'' on Xenix! But the newbies here might not know how to do this:

cache sweeper not getting called
Hi, I''ve started to implement page caches but I''ve hit a brick wall getting a sweeper to clear the cache when needed. It seems that any models that I tell it to observe aren''t being observed properly. If I add the sweeper to a controller the initialize method runs, but no matter what I do the after_save/after_update callbacks aren''t running. Also if I try to

to_json performance
Originally posted on github, reported to the right place. I would like to open a discussion about how `to_json` and `as_json` operates in Rails from a performance standpoint. I''m using Rails 3.2 but this issue applies to almost all versions of Rails. Our use case presents the challenge in sending out potentially large JSON (or XML, but we''ll focus on JSON rendering here)
