ActiveRecord: Reading MySQL views
My production environment is actually Oracle, in which case if I say:
set_table_name "v_table"
It will treat it as a readonly table.
However, doing the same under MySQL throws an
ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid error, saying that the table db.view
doesn''t exist. Is there a way to get around this? I am using MySQL to
test some new code I am working on, and wouldn''t

Importing Database into Rails App database?
I''m working on an app that uses info from a government database. For a
variety of reasons (not the least of which is that their database is in
MS Access), I can''t simply write a wrapper around the legacy database.
Instead, we''re looking to have an "import" script in the Rails
environment (it''s fine if it''s run from the server and through the

Capgem 0.1 Released
I''ve put up a first release of Capgem on Rubyforge. It''s available under the
MIT license.
Capgem is an extension to Capistrano which adds a pack task to Capistrano so
you can package up your Rails application as a Gem. This is useful if you
are in an environment where Capistrano''s remote deployment tools aren''t an
option. Capgem currently adds start and stop

Problems with SQLite3
Hi!
I''ve got a very strange problem. Suddenly the SQLite3 Backend stopped
working.
Example 1:
> rake db:rollback
== CreateProducts: reverting
=================================================
-- drop_table(:products)
rake aborted!
An error has occurred, this and all later migrations canceled:
SQLite3::SQLException: near "CASCADE": syntax error: DROP TABLE

Migrations don''t really support transactions
I read in various places that although migrations aren''t transactional, all
you need to do is wrap you migration method in "ActiveRecord::
Base.connection.transaction do"
to make the self.up or self.down transactional. In my experience (Rails +
PostgreSQL), this doesn''t work very well. If my migration hits an
exception, any tables that were touched remain modified.

Hi All
I am trying to understand if I can use migrations to migrate data under the
following conditions
1. Across 2 different databases (Oracle/DB2) with same schemas.
2. Across 2 different databases (Oracle/DB2) with different schemas.
I am trying to avoid writing DBI/OCI8 scripts.
Can somone please shed some light if this is even possible?
thanks

Can migrations be used for these cases?
Hi
A newb question.
Can I use migrations if all of the following requirements are imposed at
the same time.
1. Copy data from an old schema to a new schema, the difference in the 2
schemas is about 25%, 3 new tables and 4 new columns.
2. Copy data from Oracle schema to DB2 schema, around 25% difference in
2 schemas as above.
3. Neither old nor the new schema tables have an

Is it possible to query on virtual attributes?
I have a Person model with attributes first_name and last_name.
I want to implement autocomplete search that looks that the entire
name. Hence I have a method:
def full_name
self.first_name + " " + self.last_name
end
Is it possible for me to query on full_name and have rails match the
first_name and last_name fields?
I currently receive this error when I try, because full_name

Defining the expected behavior of DatabaseStatements.execute()
It would be very helpful if the core team could define and document
the expected behavior of DatabaseStatements.execute(). The
implementations appear to vary. Most adapters will return some sort of
native result set, SQL Server returns nil and expects a block, DB2 and
Sybase return the affected row count.
So please, will someone in core explain the expected behavior and can

SIP/Polycom Issue, Asterisk 1.2.16, calls dropped
I've been running the 8/1/2004 Head release up until a little over a
week ago. I was forced to due to a card failure to upgrade to 1.2.16
without any advance preparation or testing (most of my connections
are via satellite to all corners of the globe with high latency).
Up until the upgrade I was running with very few issues. Since the
upgrade I have been experiencing strange issues

Hello,
Please see the following picture:
http://www.wilson-kwok.com/pptp.jpg
I used one to one NAT from 210.0.0.1 to 192.168.0.2 for web server,
and then use port forwarding from 210.0.0.1 to 192.168.0.3 for pptp server,
but I cannot connect from my home to pptp server.
Here is the nat file:

Consuming a web service created with Rails, ETL vs Rest?
Hello, I need to consume a web service of an App called RedMine created
with Rails, in order to have a sort of "separate" interface (not the same
as the app) for one of the departments (that interact with the app) to
interact with it and generate some different reports based on the same data.
I don''t know much about either (ETL and Rest), all I know is that ETL seems

Problem with ssh limit and scp stalling
Hi,
I have a very simple server setup, using shorewall as my firewall. I
have a line like this at the top of my rules file to allow ssh
connections, but limited to 3 connection per minute with a burst rate
of 3:
SSH/ACCEPT net $FW - - -
- 3/min:3 -
Now when I have that in place, and from a remote machine run scp
server:/some/file ., I find

mldonkey/edonkey - servers not connected
Hi,
I''m running mldonkey on same box as shorewall.
I follow this http://mldonkey.sourceforge.net/ShorewallConfiguration to open
ports for edonkey protocol
I add in /etc/shorewall/rules:
# eDonkey 2000
ACCEPT net $FW tcp 4662
ACCEPT net $FW udp 4666
but I could not connect to any edonkey server.
I check logs and notice that udp traffic on port 4666 is still dropped.
