Marking at egress? (DiffServ)
Hi all,
Supposedly my router is itself streaming traffic to clients. Is it possible
for it to mark its packets before going through dsmark??
I have gone through the examples in iproute2/examples, i noticed that
there''s always an ingress and egress of which these are 2 different dev. Is
it possible for before ingress and egress be the same dev??
I tried the script below but

How to DSMARK locally generated traffic and then apply AFHTB?
Hi fellow traffic-shapers,
I am implementing a Diffserv CORE router using Linux kernel 2.4.18. I used
this excellent website (http://www.opalsoft.net/qos/DS-38.htm) using AFHTB
as a starting basis for my EGRESS diffserv implementation - and all works
great so far!!!
But my project has an additional requirement. There are services running
locally on the router which are sending/receiving IP

Something about diffserv!
Hello,
As we know that there are four kinds of AF in diffserv architecture, and each kind
has three different priorities. So, there are 12 different kinds of AF, is it
right? Of course, each AF has its recommended DSCP value. Then, we know the AF is
classified into four differnt classes, such as AF1, AF2, AF3, and AF4. But in a
Diffserv domain, and in the core router, there will be a classifier

Marking and remarking of incoming traffic
I can use DSMARK to mark on the Egress side. Is there a way to
mark/change the DSCP value of an incoming packet on the ingress side?
Thanks.

DSCP, ToS and Egress
I''m successfully using HTB + GRED to shape traffic based on the DSCP field. I
would like to strip the DSCP and possibly replace it with normal ToS bits on
egress traffic leaving my network. Leaving DSCP set is pointless, and could
potentially cause problems with some ISPs that use DSCP internally I suppose.
Setting ToS bits would seem ideal as most networks still honor it to varying

A Question On CBQ
Hello,
As it is well know that CBQ is the class based queue. But i am confused on the
word "class" now, especially it is used in Diffserv. IMO, different classes should
mean that there are different kinds of traffics, so the class should be difined by
the parameters (such as bandwidth, priority..) the traffic wanted. That is, using
cbq we can define different kinds of traffics which

packet marking: only a ratio, not all
Hi all!
In short:
Anybody wrote a patch for DSMARK to make it capable of marking
only a ratio (a given arg to the tc command) of the packets it gets?
Say, 20%? Or, do I have to hack into the source? Alternatives,
like a filter spitting packets to 2 different DSMARK based on this ratio?

Problem: DSCP target
Hello everybody,
I have tried several iptables versions (from 1.2.4 to 1.2.6a) to
mark outgoing packets (change the DSCP field) with no success.
#iptables -A OUTPUT -t mangle -d 10.0.0.3 -j DSCP --set-dscp 0x2
iptables v1.2.6a: unknown arg ''--set-dscp''
TOS target is working fine, but I want to create different codes
for EF and AF classes in a diffserv

DSCP marking
Hi,
I know that this question may NOT belong to this Mailing List, but
nevertheless, I hope I will get some help :)
After having worked with DiffServ on Linux, I want now to try marking
IP-packets in their DSCP header under Windows OS (e.g. WinXP). If somebody
knows some information, plz tell me, and u can e-mail me

Thanx in advance for ur understanding

RFC: [PATCH] Add TCP congestion control and Diffserv options
In the bufferbloat age, anything that can make for a kinder,
gentler bulk transfer protocol seems desirable.
This add support for user and server selectable congestion control
algorithms. As examples:
--congestion-alg=lp # For the tcp-lp algorithm on the command line
Or in a subsection:
[mystuff]
congestion alg = westwood # for a wireless connection
And diffserv support: --diffserv=8 for

Mangling TOS, or Precedence/SecurityOpts/Compartment?
Hi there LARTC,
We are running a set of three systems for semiconductor technology, and
would like to finalize our work in getting them to interoperate properly,
but have run into some issues that touch on the very fabric of TCP/IP
expertise.
Iptables has already been used to solve "part of this", can we somehow use
Diffserv capabilities to acheive the aims of modfiying packets such

using tc to drop packets based on the diffserc or tos value
Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone can help me to resolve a problem.
I am trying to use tc command in linux to drop udp
packets of specific diffserv value.
I am able set diffserv value successfully in the udp packet
using command:-
[root@scotch src]#iptables --table mangle --append OUTPUT \
--out-interface eth0 --protocol udp --source-port 5060 \
--jump DSCP --set-dscp 8

ingress policing based on source address?
Hi all
I''m new to this list, but not exactly to iproute stuff.
I''d like to solve a specific problem with bandwidth coming from
different external sources towards the internal network (also the other
way around, but I figure that''s not so much a problem, since that is
egress traffic shaping).
The network looks like this:

Using tcng to create a basic DiffServ router
Hi all,
I am new-ish to Linux tcng and am struggling to find the resources and
know how to implement what I need.
What I have is a PC with 2 interfaces and a control program on that PC.
In the control program I can specify an IP Flow with source and dest IP
address, source and dest port, and a QoS class (1-5 which can be mapped
to a DiffServ class) - in the control program I want to be able

What happened to diffserv?
I''m trying to find up to date information on diffserv, and it seems like
either nobody is using it, or nobody is talking about using it.
Is there some good site for information about using diffserv with new kernels?
The last update on diffserv.sourceforge.net is in 2001, and most of the
mailing list results are from that time.
Has everyone moved on to something other then diffserv,
