Dreamhost FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) errors
Sorry to trouble the list with another Dreamhost problem, but looking through the archives I see nothing that can solve my problem. I have installed my app as per http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/Ruby_on_Rails#Quick_Start_Guide_August_2006 with a symbolic link from my_domain.tld in ~/ to ~/apps/residence/public/ I get the Rails welcome screen. I have uploaded my app directory etc, and

Is Phusion Passenger (mod_rails) good for single app servers
There is a lot of hype over mod_rails, but from my understanding it is more geared for servers with a number of apps on it. The reason it seems that way is how it frees up the memory if an app is stagnant for an extended period. The freeing up of the memory may not be an issue if the application gets a continuous traffic flow. I have a site that I will be putting up in a couple days and am

mod_rails under Apache under Ceontos 6
Hello listmates, For some reason we don't seem to be able to launch a Ruby-on-rails application ( http://www.redmine.org/ ) on a CentOS 6 machine under Apache. Nor can I find a mod_rails as a separate package for it. Would anyone have any idea what we might be doing wrong? Thanks. Boris.

String "fwrite();" causes 503 error (Passenger or apache?)
Hi, While testing a rails application on DreamHost (mod_rails), I found a really weird problem. If I submit form data which includes "fwrite();" (with semi-colon but without quotes), I get 503 error (Server temporarily unavailable). I checked out rails log file and it didn''t even reach the rails app. I assume the error was from web server. You may test this at

Encoding Problem / mod_rails / passenger / Postgresql 8.3
Hi, when I use mod_rails/passenger with apache2 on linux instead of webbrick for our application, then it stops working with certain browsers like the ie, and konqueror but still works with firefox. I get the following error message: ActionView::TemplateError (PGError: ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0xad HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does

How do I deploy a rails app in a subdirectory using mod_rails?
Hello, I''m launching a small web app that my client wants deployed to domain.com/app. They don''t want to do a subdomain. I am trying to figure out how to set the vhost file to tell mod_rails that domain.com/ app is a rails app without effecting the regular website. Any suggestions? Thank you. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message

mongrel stand alone for small site
Hello, I just completed my first rails app. I''m currently signed up at HostGator with a shared account. I noticed that they run their rails apps with just the mongrel (non Apache load balanced/clustered) server. I''ve read some mixed information about mongrel. Some say its ok by itself, some say no. For a small site with maybe 500-1000 hits a month, will the mongrel service by

File descriptor passing broken in FreeBSD 7?
Hi, I recently tried to use the newly released mod_rails (www.modrails.com) for Apache, and discovered it doesn't work on FreeBSD 7. It does however work on FreeBSD 6 just fine. I tracked it down to sendmsg() as detailed here: http://code.google.com/p/phusion-passenger/issues/detail?id=16 The mod_rails/passenger unit tests fail on FD passing, as do the Ruby 1.8.6 standard unit

ruby/rails seems to be fubar''d
Hello. Any help the community can give me will be greatly appreciated. I''ve got the server guys who administer my dedicated server working on my issue, but it''s been two days and they are still at square one. Let''s start with the history. I''ve been working with ruby for a month or so now, and am starting to get pretty comfortable with it. I asked my host

"can't modify frozen string" error in Ajax.Updater
I''ve just deployed my RoR app to a host that uses dispatch.cgi instead of Mongrel and came across this issue when using AJAX. The same issue has been highlighted a year ago, (on this list) <http:// groups.google.com/group/rubyonrails-talk/browse_thread/thread/ 872fed1ff554c9a4> and (on Rails Trac) <http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ ticket/10365>. I am signing up with dreamhost so that i can put my rails apps on the web (after giving up on trying to make my current VPS Plesk hosting work with rails). My main question is: when creating a new rails app, can i create it using the rails command on my computer and then upload the entire directory structure to my domain

Capistrano Deployment on Dreamhost
I''m having trouble getting Capistrano to work on Dreamhost. I seem to be having problems logging in, but I can ssh fine to my dreamhost server from this machine. This doesn''t seem like a dreamhost specific thing to me, but I''m kind of stuck. Here''s the exception I get from "cap setup":

Troubleshooting tips for getting Apache/RailsApp/Dreamhost
Hi, Background: I''m currently stuck getting my basic rails application working on dreamhost. I have gone throught the doco. Note that I can via my unix account run "ruby script/server" and get the application working via webbrick. The problem I am having is that trying to go to the app via the normal apache approach my browser just sits and spins with nothing coming

upgrade issues
I tried upgrading my older 1.8.6 Ruby install to the latest stable 1.8.6 release, version 1.8.6-p230 specifically, to benefit from the latest security updates. I used this configuration: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local --enable-pthread --with-readline-dir=/usr I''m using mod_rails, so after the Ruby install I restarted Apache. I then found every Rails app on the box was non-functional,
