CentOS 5.11 / Firefox 38 -- totally borked...
The subject line is deliberate.
It looks like firefox 38 is infliting a rerun of

drive to standby after idle timeout?
I'd like to to put the hard drives in standby mode during periods of
no activity. I'm just running a file server plus a couple small
things on a Qube 3 from home, although the web stuff will increase
it's still minimal.
On my NetBSD systems I can use atactl to do this via:
mount -u -o async,noatime,nodevmtime /
mount -u -o async,noatime /usr
atactl wd0 setidle 5

C7, just updated firefox, bugs
I just updated the "critical" firefox update, and it is *seriously* buggy.
1. I killed my old session, and started a new. Many (all?) tabs show
*nothing* until I put my cursor in the URL bar and hit <enter>
2. I cannot open a link in an email in thunderbird. I click the link, and
after a bit (30 sec? more?) a small windows tells me that firefox is
running, but not responding,

looking for kernel sources
Hi all
I'm looking for the linux source files for CentOS 5.1 2.6.18-53.el5. To
install VirtualBox, I apparently need the kernel sources, and even after
installing kernel-devel & kernel-headers via yum I still get an error
saying I need the kernel-sources

Running a 32-bit application on CentOS3-x64
Hi,
I'm trying to run Norman anti-virus on a CentOS 3 box, x64. Is it
possible?
Running the binary gives me this error:
[root at server bin]# ./nvcc
-bash: ./nvcc: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or
directory
I guess I would have to install i386 libraries that it requires, as well.
It it possible?

Ugo

Centos 5.8: starting firefox-16.0.1 kills X
This just started happening this evening.
a little history:
way back last year, or thereabouts, I posted about a weird problem I was
having. over the course of 2 or 3 days I figured out how to fix it, but
not what the cause was. the fix amounts to navigating to my user's
.local/share/mime directory and removing the file named "globs".
So, back in the present: this evening that

Supsend/hibernate on Samsung NC10
Hi,
I cannot have suspend and hibernate working on a Samsung NC10
(netbook) running CentOS 5.4 i386.
When I try suspending/hibernating the screen becomes black (with a few
logs, like "shrinking memory" for hibernate) and then the computer
hangs and I have to force a shutdown with the power button.
This wiki page seems to say that it should work out of the box:

livecd vs nfsroot vs what?
Hi,
I'm trying to deploy some non-linux OS via pxe and I was thinking to just launch CentOS in RAM and then run dd or qemu-img or something like this in order to complete the other OS install via template imaging.
My first idea was to build a custom CentOS livecd and use that in combination with pxe kernel parameters, but perhaps there's a better way to do this.
Ideas?
Thanks,
Lucian

VMWare Server doesn't like new CentOS installation?
I just got a nice, shiny new machine at work, a Core 2 Duo, on which I
just finished installing CentOS 5.2 with a fair number of packages,
SeaMonkey 1.1.10, Adobe Reader 8.0, Adobe Flash 9.0, mplayer,
mplayerplug-in (both from rpmforge), and I think that was it. Then I
went and got the latest VMWare Server, 1.0.7, from VMWare, pulled down
their rpm, installed it, and ran vmware-config.pl, which

post install freezes
Hello,
I'm doing an unattended CentOS 5.3 install in a virtual machine
vmware. I'm redirecting output to a serial console because production
boxes won't have monitors. I'm getting to the point of doing the post
installation then the box freezes. The only command i have in %post is
yum -y update.
I'm not getting no output. Suggestions appreciated.

VSFTPD passive mode is not working
I have Centos 5.7 64bit; I have installed vsftpd as standalone service and using it for two years now with no problem. Suddenly; only it works with active mode. The passive mode stops working and gives time out. Firewall is disabled and SELinux is set to permissive.
I ran tcpdump and I noticed that only first three packets reached the FTP for passive mode and no more packets on other ports
