Dark side of the force and multiple db's
our entire IT technical staff is all over RAILS and can''t seem to get
things done anymore, but we are sure having fun with RAILS. At any
rate, we have used RAILS to quickly synchronize our assets and give us
a "GOOGLY" interface to our $STUFF that we maintain. Helps out in a
huge hospital implementation when integration is as diffucult as
political.
I approached this with a

Samba record locking & PC db's
Fellow Samba-meisters,
I'm wondering if anyone can share real-world experience running PC
database apps (like M$ Access) with database files shared from a samba
server. How well has the record locking proven to work? I will be
setting up a small office network for a client w/ a Linux server running
samba as a file/print server and 4 or 5 Win95 clients running Office97
apps.

XSS prevention with Rails
Hi!
I wanna take a stab at implementing better XSS prevention for Rails.
This time for real =)
I''m wondering what would be the better way, clean everything up with
tidy first and then do the rest with regexp or regexp all the way?
Anybody done this before?
Thanks!
Ciao!

A Simple Asterisk Based Toll Fraud Prevention Script

Ramblings for admins/engineers to think about. Doesn't
have to cost you umteen thousand dollars for stuff like
IPS/IDS. Although a little on the crude side, quite
effective. If you care to dabble with MySQL you can
create quite an impressive hosts based IPS that is

Changing storm-prevention behaviour in logger.conf
Dear List,
According to https://issues.asterisk.org/view.php?id=14905 there is a storm
prevention mechanism in newer Asterisks. If i look in my logfile, i see :

Asterisk intrusion detection/prevention, georgaphic IP banning, etc. (new software)
I'm looking for some beta testers to provide feedback on an Asterisk intrusion detection & prevention program we're releasing soon.
As a quick overview, the program provides:
- banning based on geographic location of source IP (Continent, country, region, city, etc)
- detection and banning based on channels in use by a user
- detection and banning based on rate of dialing
- detection

Focus Stealing Prevention
Hi,
Some very annoying apps(like Smart package management) don't let me in peace. They steal focus every time.
In compiz-forums there is a post about it:
http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=2962
But it didn't solve my problem.

[LLVMdev] Prevention register promotion at the isel codegen phase
I am trying to implement mem-mem operations, but I can't seem to figure out
how to prevent register promotion for most cases.
I can successfully compile:
int foo(int a, int b){
return a + b;
}
because it gets matched to store(add(load)(load)), but when I attempt to
compile:
int foo(int a, int b, int c){
return a + b + c;
}
I can't match the add anymore since it is of the

transcoding prevention
Hi, my setup is like:
phones (g729/g711)--(SER)--> Asterisk <--(oh323)--gateway (supports
g729&g711)
problem begin when phone supports only g711 and Asterisk doesn't
negotiate this codec in full path (from phone to gateway), but tries to
do transcoding (and because I haven't g729 codec in asterisk, the call
fail).
Is there any solution how to tell to Asterisk to negotiate

i tryed blacklist all ips that got passwords errors, but that ends in
big shorewall blrules so i turn it over to just add whitelist into
blrules where ips is known custommers that dont abuse server, that way
my shorewall got alot smaller config files

Prevention of outgoing file transfers?
Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to firewall and/or configure rsync
via a web proxy using RSYNC_PROXY to prevent push mode file transfers
yet still allow pull mode? I am aware of Matt McCutchen's helpful
distinction between the direction of an rsync connection and the
direction of file transfer at at

LTO prevention help
I'm trying to learn about LTO. I have a static variable that I try to give
a non-compile-time-constant value to. With LTO turned off, the sprintf
happens i.e. a breakpoint set on that line does get triggered. With LTO
turned on (either Monolithic or Incremental), the code appears to be
removed/elided/deleted/forgotten/dropped/lost/ignored and the breakpoint is
never tripped.
What can I do to

Recommendations on intrusion prevention/detection?
Dear all,
what are the key strategies for intrusion prevention and detection with
dovecot, apart from installing fail2ban?
It is a pity that the IMAP protocol does not support 2 factor
authentication, which seems to stop 90% of intrusion attempts in their
tracks. Without it, if someone has obtained your password and reads your
mail without modifying it, you will hardly ever notice.

[LLVMdev] Fwd: Prevention register promotion at the isel codegen phase
Yes, this is very helpful! Thank you!
How does this work when exiting a variable's liveness range? Will it
automatically know to free the stack slot for reuse?
