Custom cache store – possible?
Hi.
I want to define my own cache store but I have no idea how to use in
my app.
Rails initializer reads environment config before loading app
initializers and plugins. So, i cant write:
config.cache_store = :my_beautiful_cache_store, ''localhost:641''
even if I put ActiveSupport::Cache::MyBeautifulCacheStore in config/
initializers.
Now i think it is impossible to define my

Can't configure cach_store in an initializer
I''m trying to use redis-store as my cache_store. I also have an
app_confirg.rb initalizer which loads a yaml file for config settings.
In my redis.rb initializer I have:
MyApp::Application.config.cache_store = :redis_store,
APP_CONFIG[''redis'']
However, this doesn''t appear to work. If I do Rails.cache in my rails
console I can clearly see it''s using

Rails 3 upgrade - Custom cache store
I had a custom cache store set up in Rails 2.3. I''m in the process of
upgrading to rails 3, but have run into a snag. Before I had all the
setting in my environment.rb. It would basically load a yaml file
with my server settings, and set up the store via config.cache_store.
It seemed like the correct place for this in Rails 3 was as an
initializer. So I did basically the same thing,

Cannot expire cache from background process?
Hello,
I am trying to expire fragments (or at least trigger their expiration)
from a daemon that''s running in the background.
The daemon is updating all kinds of important lists every few minutes
from the background.
So I have to find some way to DO or TRIGGER the fragment caching from
this daemon.
Unfortunately just using the normal commands like:

find_by_sql and memcached
Is a find_by_sql query cached with memcached and cached_model
(http://dev.robotcoop.com/Libraries/)? Looks like the answer is no. Is
there a reason for this? I have a lot of very complicated querys with a
lot of unions, subquerys and joins that would greatly benefit from the
cache.
Going through the code I can see that the find_by_sql method is changed
in cached_model.rb, but it does not call

Restful Authentication Uninitialized Constant in Production...
rake db:migrate RAILS_ENV=production
rake aborted!
uninitialized constant User::Authentication
The preceding I encounter when attempting to migrate to the production
database. My google powers have escaped me. Everywhere says Restful
Authentication is missing in the production server. However, to
validate this, I attempted this on the same server as the development,
which works.
So, what

How to use a freshly updated Rails gem?
Hi there,
How do I make my app pick up the new Rails gem that I have just updated?
I have:
1. just updated rails from version 2.1.0 to version 2.3.2 (console:
"rails -v" -> "Rails 2.3.2")
2. in environment.rb set: "RAILS_GEM_VERSION = ''2.3.2'' unless defined?
RAILS_GEM_VERSION"
3. restarted the server
Result:

no sql in the controller guideline
hello. i just checked Chad Fowler''s post "20 Rails Development No-No''s"
and
one guideline caught my attention. it says:
"Nothing that looks at all like SQL should go into a controller, view,
or helper."
it really came as a surprise to me as Rails itself seems to go against
such practice by its AR ''conditions'' option, which most of the times

Rails requires RubyGems >= 1.1.1 : problem
Hello,
On my local machine (Mac OS X 10.5.5), I get the following error when I try
to run script/server start :
"Rails requires RubyGems >= 1.1.1 (you have 1.0.1). Please `gem update
--system` and try again."
The Rails app was a former 1.2.6 upgraded to 2.1, and it worked fine.
I''ve run the rake rails:update command.
If I create a new Rails app, it starts with the command

Data
Hi all,
Imagine I have a matrix and the first colum is a list that repeats the same
names, I want to sum the second column on each unique name on first column.
Imagine this:
Pepe 2
Pepe 3
Pepe 4
Jose 2
Jose 5
Manuel 4
Manuel 2
I want to make a new matrix that calculates and recognizes that there are 3
different names ans sum second column. But a priori I don´t know the list of

multidimensional scaling with long form data
I have a dissimilarity dataset with the form:
1 1 dissimilarity value
1 2 ...
1 3
1 4
2 2
2 3
2 4
...
I would like to do nonmetric multidimensional scaling with this data, but I
am having trouble using this format. I would like to either find a function
that accepts this format or find a way to easily convert this format to a
matrix for use with existing functions.
Thanks!

Versions Compatibility and RAILS_GEM_VERSION
Is there any problem with versions compatibility?
A project I started with 1.1.2 cannot run with 1.1.4.
Dreamhost recently updated their rails from 1.1.2 to 1.1.5 and 1.1.6.
Needless to say I got "Application Error". However when I changed
RAILS_GEM_VERSION to either 1.1.5 or 1.1.6, it works. (Haven''t made a
thorough checking though.)
Here it seems there is no

Rails cannot connect error after updating using ruby and rails to slightly newer versions
I am on a mac. Have been developing using a manually installed
(according to the hivelogic instructions) ruby, rails, gems, mongrel
setup. Life was good.
When I noticed that my ruby version was out of date, I decided to
switch to using macports to maintain the software on my mac. I used it
to install a new ruby and gems, and then used gems to get the latest
rails. Life seemed to be good.
