tool to manage a PKI
Hello,
this is a little bit off-topic (even if it have to work on CentOS ;-)
I'm looking for a tool to manage a small Public Key Infrastructure, with
creation/revocation of certificates X.509, export in PKCS#12 format and
have the ability to handle CSR (Certificate Signing Request).
I've wrote my own script to perform it (openssl command line based):
it's a good way to

Iptables hangs at shutdown
Hi all-
I have a Centos 3.6 server in production that hadn't been rebooted in
quite some time. I was finally onsite today and took the chance to
reboot into the most current kernel, but the box hung while
"stopping iptables". Some Googling led me to one or two reports of
systems hanging while the iptables initscript unloaded the modules.
Has anyone else encountered this?

Tape backup question.
Hello,
I want to backup my PE2800 on tape but I'm not sure how to do this.
My PE2800 has a RAID5 setup with 2 72GB SCSI disks and a Seagate DAT-2 72GB
internal tape-streamer and I'm running Centos 4.3 with the latest yum
updates.
I'm not sure if this tape-streamer is recognised by the OS properly because
it doesn't show up along with my DVD/floppy
I also recieved with the

Hanging @ Sendmail During Boot
Hi All,
I have a coupla queries about my 2 latest installs of CentOS 4-3. When I
first installed and logged in as the initial user, everything went well,
and the system was fast. A reboot, and 2nd login gave the same. But,
upon connecting to the net, the system hung at sendmail for almost
4mins, and then gave an error at login about not finding the host, and
that Gnome may not work

Default 4.4 kernel and NTFS?
I just installed Centos 4.4 and performed a Yum update to freshen all
out-of-date files.
I also have two IDE drives that are NTFS partitioned, but noticed they are not
seen by the kernel.
I visit /usr/src/kernels/2.6.9-42.EL-i686 and copy the Makefile.bak to Makefile
and run make xconfig. Reviewing the supported filesystems, ntfs is not
selected. Any reason why not?
What is the easiest and

vpopmail over NFS not seeing new messages.
Hi all.
We've just migrated our back-end NFS mailstore from FC1 systems to
CentOS4 and are experiencing problems/delays with vpopmail and user
Maildirs. IMAP is fine, it's just POP access that causes us problems.
Now, NFS mounts successfully, the clients can see /home/vpopmail and
serve content as we would expect. IMAP works perfectly and sees new
messages as soon as they're

CentOS samba MS Word corruption
We're using CentOS samba for about 20 workstations, mostly XP, some 2000 and
two win98. Samba shares a data directory with Word, Excel and Access
documents/db's. Also Exact for Dos is running from this share (executable and
data).
The users experience a long delay every morning opening the first Word
document (Word 97, Word 2000). This could take 10 minutes or so. If they

INIT 5 and system is gone
I had been running a system on Centos 5.1 at INIT 3. I did the upgrade
to Centos 5.2 with the aid of the powernowk8 patch.
Previously I would VNC into the unit when I needed to do admin stuff
with a GUI. Well I noticed that I was NOT getting GNOME via VNC since
the upgrade (worked before just fine with 5.1). So I tried an INIT 5
from the command line (always worked before), but the system

Subject=Re:CentOS Simple solution for small network in school
Hello,
I would use some (old) pc's as thin clients and have them boot over the
network from the server, or from cd. Then, have them make a connection to the
server with the NX protocol. Thinstation.org provides all this.
Just install FreeNX on the server (yum install) and manage the accounts as
local accounts.
Can't have it any simpeler than that in my opinion, also for management.

Compiling "embedding R" examples
Hi,
I am working at a major financial institution and we would like to embed R in one of our front office application.
The application is written in C/C++ so I started by trying to compile the examples in "tests/Embedding" of R 2.0.1.
I have modified "tests/Embedding/Makefile" according https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2005-February/064341.html

delete fails to delete everything it should like dangling symlinks
I think someone posted this before, but I can't find it in the archives.
I am using rsync to pull down source files to be compiled. The delete
options are used to clear out any old files left over from previous.
Normally this works. I've run into one case where it persistently fails.
Within the directory created during compiling is a symlink to another
directory, also created during

[LLVMdev] opt -load error on Darwin
Hi,
I am following the instructions on Writing an LLVM Pass on Darwin(8.7.0)
powerpc. The loadable library is built. But "opt -load " gives error saying
"Symbol not found". I am using LLVM 1.8. Could someone tell me how to fix
it? I have tried the same procedure on Pentium4 Redhat9. Everything is ok
there. So I think there must be some specific problem on Darwin that I

[LLVMdev] opt -load error on Darwin
Thank you, Reid.
I have applied tha patch to ltdl.c ltdl.h. The problem still exists. I
looked up the symbol on libLLVMCore.a, and found three U-entries and one
T-entry. However, the Darwin linker is not able to find the T-entry. Any
idea?

active/active failover
Dear all,
I'm rather new to glusterfs but have some experience running lager lustre and beegfs installations. These filesystems provide active/active failover. Now, I discovered that I can also do this in glusterfs, although I didn't find detailed documentation about it. (I'm using glusterfs 3.10.8)
So my question is: can I really use glusterfs to do failover in the way described

active/active failover
Hi Stefan,
I think what you propose will work, though you should test it thoroughly.
I think more generally, "the GlusterFS way" would be to use 2-way
replication instead of a distributed volume; then you can lose one of your
servers without outage. And re-synchronize when it comes back up.
Chances are if you weren't using the SAN volumes; you could have purchased
two servers

rsync as a bakcup tool and the case of rotated logs
Hello,
I use rsync (among many other things) as an incremental backup tool.
Every night I save /{home,etc,var} from several servers. On one of them
we keep 52 weeks of system logs, so each time syslog is rotated all old
syslog.x.gz (where x is between 1 and 213) change names. This impacts
our backup transfers because the incremental snapshot now has to include
all syslog.x.gz files even though

Hello all,
I am wondering if it would be possible to write a script or a cronjob in
linux using Rsync to run an automated backup of a server, or serveral
servers if possible. I am very new with writing scripts and such, so any
help or suggestions with how to get started would be great!!!
Thanks ahead of time for the help!!!
