Help a newb with 0.3.1
Hi, first off thanks Ezra for Merb - it''s certainly interesting and
I''m keen to have a play. However, I''m having difficulties in getting
started. I''ve followed the docs for setting up mrblog and everything
seems to be installed correctly, and merb appears to start fine:
$ merb
you must install the markaby gem to use .mab templates

deployment survey
Hello Mongrels,
Building on the last messages about Fastthread, can we get a detailed
survey of the different ways people are deploying their applications?
It will help with near-future Mongrel development.
Please include the following things:
* Framework, if any (Camping, Merb, Rails, Nitro, Ramaze, IOWA, Rack...)
* Mongrel version
* Mongrel handlers used (rails, dirhandler, camping,

Merb Init Script
I''m trying to emulate the mongrel_cluster_ctl but it takes a -c
conf_file option... meaning I can run it from anywhere as long as I
tell it where the conf file is. Merb doesn''t have that capability does
it? (it has an additional/supplemental config like mup.conf etc)
Do I have to be under the merb_app root /path/to/merb/app/ to be able
to run merb?
Let me know.
Thanks,

ARSession Woes!
I''m having an issue with ARsessions... I have a rails app AND a merb app
both under the same domain... I have redirects working for this to be
seamless... however, the session started on merb is different than the
session started in the rails app... like so..

Any ideas why?
The only difference I see, but dunno where to change this, is

Mongrel upload progress not showing progress on production server
Hi all,
Tried out the mongrel upload progress plugin with Drb and it works
great on my OSX development box, but when putting it into production
(Ubuntu Dapper), uploads complete but the app isn''t returning any
values for upload progress, and uploads are not showing up in the
queue when running upload_client.rb. Before anyone asks, yes, I''m
running both the mongrel instances and

mongrel_upload_progress question/possible suggestion
Hey all,
First off, thanks to Rick Olson and whoever else was involved with this
plugin... It''s been amazingly easy to implement.
I''ve got a question about the path_info parameter, though... It seems that
unless the request PATH_INFO exactly matches the path_info passed in to the
plugin at inclusion, it won''t actually trigger Add and add the upload to the

How to truly separate Logic from view with Rails?
It is something that I have been wondering. When working with other
application servers there is often/most of the time a 3 tiers/layers
architecture:
- Presentation layer/Web services
- Application layer
- Database layer
They often resides on separate machines, 3 different sets. So the
application code is logically AND physically separated from the
presentation layer.
Is this possible with

Definitive guide for upload progress
Hi
Is there some definitive guide for upload progress plugin ? We have in
this mailing list a lot of testimonials, bug reports, bug fixes, but
there are still people like me who cannot use it correctly.
Here is my config:
- mongrel 1.0RC and upload progress plugin 0.2.1
- a 6 mongrels cluster
- config/mongrel_upload_progress.conf:

No return status from mongrel upload progress (and thus no updates on the bar)
Hi all,
I''m using Boxroom (http://boxroom.rubyforge.org/) and trying to get
upload progress working. I''ve also been testing the sample code at
http://itblog.mcgeecorp.com/2007/5/15/mongrel-upload-progress-demo/.
I run a Mongrel cluster, and so am using drb (as per
http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/upload_progress.html). Starting up
rails, I get lots of useful-sounding output:

restarting cluster without killing in progress file uploads
Hello,
I have a cluster of three Mongrels running behind Pound. All is running
well except when I restart the cluster (mongrel_rails cluster::restart)
any in progress file uploads (handled through mongrel_upload_progress)
stop uploading. That is, if I''m uploading a file (via a web app being
served by the mongrel cluster) during a restart, my browser will
indefinitely pause as if it is

MogileFS handler
Hello,
I''ve been using NFS for sharing files across a cluster of servers but
I''ve had a lot of problems with that. I''m planning to move to MogileFS
which seems to be more stable and more adapted to this usage (lots of
user uploaded files).
I wonder if someone has already worked on an integration of MogileFS
into Mongrel (and Rails app) for serving the files ? If not, I

Mongrel Upload Progress 0.2 -- With Instructions and Examples
Hi Folks,
I''m sure tons of people are gonna ruin a whole drawer of their best
panties over this one.
Rick Olson worked on the mongrel_upload_progress gem, documentation and
examples and has almost everything you need to do progress tracked file
uploads using just Mongrel to handle the upload. This means that Rails
(or any other framework) isn''t blocked while the upload

example code for file upload
I have an archiving application that handles large file uploads. I
already use backgroundrb to run a behind the scenes bulk import of
records. All good. Thank you Ezra.
Now I would like to add long running file uploads to the things that
backgroundrb does for me. That''s right that ole chestnut. I''ve seen
a lot of mention of this practice around the web, but have yet

how to use upload progress?
I''m a bit confused about how to get upload progress to work with
mongrel.. I''ve installed the mongrel_upload_progress (0.1) gem, but
have no idea what to do with it.
According to the following page:
http://technoweenie.backpackit.com/pub/602283
there''s a patch (mup.diff) which seems like it patches the
mongrel_upload_progress plugin
The following blog entry makes it

Upload Progress (mup.js) typo
I was using the sample_app and found out that the progress bar wasn''t
changing color. It was updating the percentage but wasn''t updating the width
of the status bar style...
I found that the mup.js was missing and appended "px"
So here it is: my first ever Merb patch!

compress and max upload size?
I am using mongrel_cluster with mod_proxy_balancer and would like to
enable compression (assuming it improves throughtput) and limit file
size upload. I configured mod_deflate and LimitRequestSize in Apache,
but in my trials looks like the proxied calls bypass those directives
(the conf goes below).
Is there a way to get this?

Setup with Apache 2.2 proxy balancer : timeout during uploads
Hi all,
I encounter timeout errors during file uploads in my Rails application.
I think the problem may be in the Mongrel configuration. Here is my setup:
* Load balancer (Cisco CSM, my provider''s Catalyst 6509)
* Apache 2.2.3 with mod_proxy_balancer
* Mongrel 0.3.13.3
* Rails 1.1.6
* Ruby 1.8.4
* MySQL 5.0.22
* file_column
I host an application in which users may upload medium files

merb/sequel mutex on or off? proxy_balancer or no?
Just a quick question to those of you using merb and sequel or
datamapper. How do you setup your merb app?
For example:
merb -X off -c 5, then run mod_proxy_balancer or nginx to load balance
between the 5 (or whatever #) of merb nodes?
merb -X off -d, then simply use something like proxypass
merb -c 5, keep the mutex lock and cluster it
haproxy, swiftiply, evented mongrel......

Design flaw? - num_processors, accept/close
Rails instances themselves are almost always single-threaded, whereas
Mongrel, and it''s acceptor, are multithreaded.
In a situation with long-running Rails pages this presents a problem for
mod_proxy_balancer.
If num_processors is greater than 1 ( default: 950 ), then Mongrel will
gladly accept incoming requests and queue them if its rails instance is
currently busy. So even
