WISH: Built-in R session-specific universally unique identifier (UUID)
# Proposal Provide a built-in mechanism for obtaining an identifier for the current R session, e.g. > Sys.info()[["session_uuid"]] [1] "4258db4d-d4fb-46b3-a214-8c762b99a443" The identifier should be "unique" in the sense that the probability for two R sessions(*) having the same identifier should be extremely small. There's no need for reproducibility, i.e.

Why can''t I changed the _session_id cookie?
Hi, I noticed that there is a cookie set by my rails scaffold that contains a 32 character hash code in it, but when I tried to change its value using Cookies[:_session_id], nothing happened, it stays the same! How am I supposed to change the session_id? Thanks. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Sessid.
How can I get the sessid from the current session object? For instance, I log in the system, and want to know which sessid I''m using. I''m storing the session using active_record. Later on, I want to restore a session finding it using the sessid. Thanks in advance. Fernando Lujan

Cookie Sessions in Merb?
I like the cookie sessions that Rails edge has - they make sense, they''re fast, easy. For those that don''t know: the default session mechanism is to give developers a Hash called session. To store this object between requests it Marshals the session object and sends the object itself (now as a bitstream) back to clients to store in their cookie file. To prevent users from

CookieStore and Session data via POST vars (no cookies)
This might be a solved issue, so I thought I''d ask. I''m trying to use SWFUpload with the cookiestore. I''m passing in the session_id variable through a POST parameter in the upload. I''ve verified that Flash is sending the POST params (Flash 9). I thought simply by setting cookie_only to false for that method, I would be able to get that to work.

Maintaining same session for a user across different PCs
Hi, I''m trying to make a simple shopping cart, where I want to maintain state when a use logs in from different location. Consider the following : 1. ''foo'' logs in from home pc and add ''bar'' item to the cart. 2. ''foo'' goes to office and logs in from office PC. 3. Now I want only one session for ''foo'', so that when

Sharing sessions between a rails3 app and a rails2 app. Rails 2 app crashes.
Hey all. I have two apps. One is a rails3 app and the other is a rails 2 app. Using proxying I am routing actions in the myapp.com/foo to the rails2 app. It almost works! I can set a session variable and a cookie variable on the first app (myapp.com) and then read them on the second app (myapp.com/foo). It only works the first time though. If I go back to myapp.com and then revisit

persistent cookies
hello, I am trying to implement a "remember be" box for logins, however I cant seem to get it to work. I have tried the following 2 methods but neither seem to work. When i check the expiry time in firefox it always says "end of session". What is the proper way to handle this so the session cookie "_session_id" doesnt expire for a year? I tried

Switching to active_record_store session management errors out
Hello, Running Ruby 1.8.6 and Rails 2.2.2 against an Oracle XE database (sigh). I just upgraded Rails from 1.2.3 to 2.2.2, which made my cookie based system for storing session information to error out due to the 4Kb limit. So, I tried to turn on the active_record_store system by un- commenting out the "config.action_controller.session_store = :active_record_store" line in

Camping and sessions proposal.
Hi Campers, from the discussions gathered around, the current Camping sessions don''t seem to be satisfying. ActiveRecord doesn''t seem to handle hashid as an identifier, plus it doesn''t seem to be fully consistent across the various RDBMS. On the other hand, the scope of the project does not permit to implement all kind of client persistence. Secure sessions with

what is a session stored via the active_record_store option unique to?
Hi, After a bunch of snooping in AWDWR and Railsguides I can''t reach a good understanding to the following question: What is a session stored via the active_record_store option unique to? In other words, how does rails bind the user to their session under the active_record_store option? This concern has arisen in the following way... ...I have two use levels in my app: 1) authenticated

Switching to ActiveRecord Session Store
I''m having a problem switching from cookie sessions (the default) to active record sessions. I''ve created the sessions table via the rake task, uncommented the line config.action_controller.session_store = :active_record_store in my environment.rb file, cleared out my browsers cookies, restarted the server (natch), but still the it''s using cookie_store instead of

Getting Session ID
I thought I understood how to grab the session id but in the following code I am getting null for the session id: @foo = Foo.new(:session_id => session[:session_id], :test_id => @test.id) -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Session in ActiveRecordStore
The Agile book seems to say I should specify this as follows, probably in the environments.rb: ActionController::CgiRequest::DEFAULT_SESSION_OPTIONS[:database_manager] = CGI::Session::ActiveRecordStore BUT the environments.rb file would have me Un-Comment this: config.action_controller.session_store = :active_record_store Anyway, I''ve tried both, and in both cases it

Sessions on Rails with Pound and Mongrel
Hi All, I''m experiencing a problem when using pound with Rails. My set up is I have a machine acting as a load balancer running Pound. This listens on port 80 and directs requests with a particular URL to two backend servers both of which are serving my rails app using mongrel cluster on ports 9000,9001 and 9002. There is a problem with sessions even though I am storing the session data

before_filter strange behaviour on update and create
Hi, I wrote a authentication script and I''m calling it like this in every class: class Blah < ApplicationController before_filter :auth def auth req_perm = Permission.find_by_name("Permission Blah") access = AccessController.new() if access.is_logged_in(session.session_id) if !access.get_current_user(session.session_id).role.permissions.include? req_perm redirect_to

Session management with SOAP and AWS
I''m working on a rails app where I''d like to have a session-based SOAP API. That is, I''d like to connect via SSL and have a ''login'' method followed by one or more other methods. I''m using the ActionWebService::Client::Soap class to connect to my app, but each method invocation results in a new session on the server (WEBrick, at the

Session ids and identification
Hi all, AFAIK, session ids are generated and given to a user side as a cookie or whatever so that we may later "identify" a user and their previous authentication by that id. But this is not secure! It doesn''t matter if we use https or "secure cookies" or some other crap. It doesn''t matter. As soon as you trust the client to provide you with valid data, you

''depot''app, trouble with session / cookies
Many of you probably know the ''depot'' app from the ''Agile Rails development'' book. When the view changes from ''Store'' to ''display_cart,'' a session containing the shopping-cart (:cart) is supposed maintain the ''cart'' between calls, but when the display_cart stub view shows up, I have always ZERO elements

Setting cookie value in test
In the initial version of my application I am just going to require cookies - down the road _considering_ changing that and providing something that works without. Anyway, this is somewhat of a two part question 1. Does this approach make sense or is there a better way typically used? Just have a before_filter in my application.rb to verify that the :_session_id cookie is present. If it
