Shoulda issue: no more "should have_instance_methods" ?
I''m using Shoulda. After copying the code here.... .... http://joshuaclayton.github.com/code/2009/07/14/should-act-as-list.html.... into my test_helper file so I can test acts_as_list, I came across issues. For one I realized I had to get rid of the _ between the "should" and "have" in past cases, but here, I get this error when I run my unit test:

Shoulda
Hey, we''re currently using shoulda (http://dev.thoughtbot.com/ shoulda/) on a project and I saw some things that would be really nice to see in rspec, namely the should_ methods, and especially the should_be_restful method. Do these go against the rspec goals at all? Or could an ambitious programmer go to town implementing these for rspec_on_rails? Nathan Sutton fowlduck at

RSpec / Cucumber painfully slow Rails 3 OSX
I am working on my first Rails BDD project with extensive tests since starting out with Rails a few years ago. Running RSpec or Cucumber is really slow. I''m using Rails 3 and RSpec 2. To run one model spec with only 5 tests takes almost 1 minute! When it finishes it says it took only 0.9 seconds to run the actual test. So obviously it is loading the environment that takes so long. I just

Why RSpec?
I like Shoulda. Sometimes I like plain old Test::Unit. Cucumber gives me a different thought process. I''d just like to hear some thoughts on why RSpec? What does it buy me that I can''t get with Shoulda? I just can''t seem to think in RSpec. Where is there a good example of RSpec tests that will help me grasp the right path? Thanks! -- Amos King

Does RSpec work nicely with UUID primary keys?
I have my application happily generating UUID primary keys using the uuidtools gem. But the auto-generated specifications created by "script/generate rspec_scaffold...", etc, assume that one is using a sequential integer primary key. For those who have hit this same issue, is it just a matter of rewriting the auto-generated specifications to take this into account, or does one have to

[BUG] Segmentation fault
First of all, I use RVM and I installed ruby-1.9.2-head, which I used to create a new rails3 gemset. Then I changed to that gemset with rvm use 1.9.2-head@rails3 and I ran bundle install over the following Gemfile: source ''http://rubygems.org'' gem ''rails'', ''3.0.0.beta4'' gem ''sqlite3-ruby'', :require =>

Difference between rake test:units and individually running ruby -I test test/unit/something_test.rb ?
Here''s my issue: running ruby -I test test/unit/something_test.rb for each of my unit tests works perfectly. However, running rake test:units brings errors in all of them - some object becomes nil for some reason. Why might this be happening? Specifics: the object that is successfully not nil when I run the unit tests one-by-one but becomes nil when I do rake test:units is defined like

puppet-dashboard - rake API not working
Hello all, I am quite new to the puppet arena, but I am really impressed with puppet as a tool and the possibilities it gives you with regards to managing many systems. I am running dashboard 1.2.14 and am trying to query via the rake API: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/dashboard/manual/1.2/rake_api.html when I do, I get the following error: <snip> # sudo -u puppet-dashboard rake -f

RSpec, shoulda-matchers and Rails model attributes validations
I was trying out RSpec framework in a project and got stopped doing the unit test of a model. In particular, doing the test for the associations and the ActiveRecord validations. I started writing the validations but my tests didn''t look DRY at all. Before refactoring the tests checked out and look for other people solutions. I found out shoulda-matchers and Shoulda (which if I

Testing attr_accessible (and/or attr_protected)
I''ve been puzzling over how to test that attr_accessible has been set for the correct columns; but the tests I''ve come up with so far seem to fail to fail when I expect. I came across this old message from this list: http://www.mail-archive.com/rspec-users at rubyforge.org/msg01570.html Which seemed like a plausible example, but my attempt (modeled on the example)

Quiet Backtrace in RSpec
I''m using RSpec on Rails and would like to clean up the backtraces, so I went looking for an RSpec equivalent to ThoughtBot''s Quiet Backtrace gem<http://thoughtbot.com/projects/quietbacktrace>. I found Spec::Runner::QuietBacktraceTweaker in the RDOCS, but I can''t figure out how to use it. Can I add something to spec_helper.rb that will utilize

Agile Web Dev unit test fails with fixture instance variable
I''m following Agile Edition 1. On page 148 it suggests using instance variables named after the fixture, for example: assert_equal @version_control_book.id, @product.id When I introduce this type of instance variable into my test, I get the following error: 1) Error: test_not_owner(GroupTest): RuntimeError: Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the

using rake db:fixtures:load with rspec fixtures
Hi, I''m new to rspec. I have some fixtures in /spec/fixtures. If they were in /test/fixtures they could be loaded with rake db:fixtures:load. Is there any way other than a symlink to load my rspec fixtures into the database with rake? Or, can I cause rspec to load the fixtures from /test/fixtures? Thanks, Paul

I''m trying to use it_should_behave_like, and something seems to be wonky with the syntax.
