Polymorphic Associations with inheritance
I have two models, Article and Post, that has many Comments. However, both Article and Post are inherited from a BaseContent class like so: class Article < BaseContent has_many :comments, :as => :commentable end class Post < BaseContent has_many :comments, :as => :commentable end and here''s my Comment model: class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to

Making attachment_fu polymorphic
I am working on a small model mixin called attachment_kung to make attachment_fu polymorphic, so you no longer need a different table and Model class for every associated attachment (Productimage, Ad_doc, etc). All you really need is one model and table to handel all your attachments - in some cases, anyway. I have the code working, but have run into one small hitch that I can''t seem to

[Req] polymorphic associations howto
Hi people, I''m looking into polymorphic associations as a way to cleanup some messy parts of my code. I think they will allow me to do exectly what I need, but since there''s little to none written on this subject, I''d be delighted if someone could shed some light on this. Especially what the different options and needed table structures need to be. Thanks, -

Backticks wrapping SQL values in polymorphic associations...
Hopefully the subject line didn''t scare you. That said... I have a simple polymorphic relationship (is that possible?): class Part has_many :attachments, :as => :attachable end class Attachment belongs_to :attachable, :polymorphic => true end Calling Part.find(:first).attachments yields this SQL error: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: Mysql::Error: Unknown column

Disabling anchor clicking in a draggable
Hey guys I have an interesting problem - I have some draggable elements (sortable actually), with links (<A>) inside them. I want the user to be able to click on the link, however if the user drags the element I don''t want the link to get fired. Can anyone think of a way to do this? It only needs to work in Firefox. Cheers -Rob

has_one :through with :source. How to alias association?
Hi to everyone, I have the following models: class Attachment < ActiveRecord::Base has_attachment :content_type => [:image, ''application/pdf''], :max_size => 3.megabytes, :path_prefix => ''../private/attachments'', :storage => :file_system, :processor => :rmagick,

one to many question
1. A category has parent categories. 2. A product is in many categories and a category has many products. 3. Products and category both have images in the same image table. ie. a product and / or category could have multiple images.<=== my question is related to this So among other things I presume I have to do the following: class Category < ActiveRecord:Base #...

possible to create polymorphic relationship with STI models?
I would like to associate a ‘product’ model with 3 models inherited from ‘image’: part, action and accessory. I have it working with Has_many :through relating products to images through attachments, I then have to determine the ‘type’ of the STI extension. This means i have to go product.images. While this is ok, i can see it getting tricky when i want to go products.images <<

Polymorphic associations and single table inheritance
Running into an interesting problem that at first glance appears to be a bug in the AR association code. However, it''s explicitly coded this way so I''m not so sure. I have some code like this: class Address < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :addressable, :polymorphic => true end class Person < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :addresses, :as => :addressable,

Polymorphic joins work one way, but not the other
I''ve been using polymorphic joins from edge rails based on about 5 lines of advice Rick Olson gave me over IRC. There''s some sparse documentation popping up but it seems to cover a somewhat different case. Anyway - I pretty much got it to work - save for one detail. Here''s what I have: class Event < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :attachable, :polymorphic =>

Why does AR use base_class for polymorphic relationship "type"
I have a couple models that inherit from a base class that then inherits from AR. When they are used in a polymorphic relationship the "type" is always the base class. Just curious if anyone has a reason why it doesn''t use the *actual* class rather then the base_class. I have patched AR to use the actual class if !base_class.table_exists? but it adds another query each time

Polymorphic Associations and grouping users and projects
Hi all, In my app I would like to create user groups in my admin. Currently I have the following models and associations that facilitate this. class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :memberships has_many :groups, :through => :memberships end class Membership < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :group belongs_to :user end class Group < ActiveRecord::Base has_many

Polymorphic Associations: dynamic finders
Is there any sort of dynamic finder for polymorphic associations? For example if I had: class InviteNode < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :inviteable, :polymorphic => true end I would like to be able to search by: InviteNode.find_by_inviteable(some_object) instead of having to do: InviteNode.find_by_inviteable_id_and_inviteable_type(some_object.id, some_object.class.name) obviously I

Sorting Polymorphic Associations
Recently, I converted a single table inheritance design over to polymorphic associations as that made a lot more sense from a database perspective. One of the features of the ui, a drag and dropable list of items, needs to be completely reworked though. Instead of having one table with a "sort" column, I have 1 polymorphic table "items" acting as a pointer to 3 or 4 other

Eager loading of polymorphic associations
Polymorphic associations work great until I try to do some eager loading through :include. In my example, the interface name is ":imagehaver". Here''s my little eagerly loading find line: Image.find(params[:id], :include => :imagehaver) All it gives me is an ActiveRecord::EagerLoadPolymorphicError with no further explanation. I haven''t been able to dig up anything

STI vs Polymorphic Associations
I have a MasterEvent model. It has attributes that is required by another model Event. The user selects the MasterEvent model and I create the Event model by merging the attributes of the selected MasterEvent with the attributes that were presented for the Event model in the form. I have association declarations in the MasterEvent and Event models. If I use STI does the subclasses inherit the

eager loading and polymorphic associations
There is a dedicated section about eager loading in the docs. A coworker discovered eager loading does not work in polymorphic associations the hard way :-) so I''ve written a patch that documents it: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/10610 There are at least a couple of tickets that implement something that would change that though: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/9640

Polymorphic :through associations
Could someone please help me with this association scheme? I am familiar with habtm as well as the :through association but this one has me stumped. Here is an example DB. Tags Table: ------------------------- id name Taggables Table: -------------------------- id tag_id taggble_type taggable_id For purposes of this example say that there are 2 other tables that can be tagged and their model

Lost Polymorphic Associations in development environment causes delegate :blah, :to => to fail
Hi All I have been struggling with this issue for a long time now. And before I began to describe the problem its important to know that this problem happens only in Development environment.
