CentOS6: ntfs-3g and writing utf-8 filenames
Hello there,
I know this has been widely discussed over the net, but I still can't
find a way to write a file whose name contains accented characters in ntfs-3g
partitions that are automatically mounted on my CentOS6 system.
Whatever my locale is POSIX, en_US or en_US.utf8, I always get a:
Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character
error when I attempt to create a directory or a

Locales and filenames
I have a file which contains non-ASCII characters (umlauts, accented
characters, etc.) both in its filename as well as its content. The
only way I have been able to see these characters is inside vim,
where they are displayed correctly no matter what I have LANG set
to. My default LANG is en_US.utf8, but I have tried de_DE.utf8,
de_DE.iso88591, and various others. In the output of a

export to pdf, txt and the utf8-problem.
Hi,
can''t seem to figure it out. I have text saved as UTF8 in my MySQL
database, and it shows up fine in the browser. However, I want to
export to pdf (pdf;writer) and csv-text. When I do that the accented
foreign characters do not show up.
I''ve tried to convert them before exporting, but I don''t seem to be
able to get it right. (Iconv etc. do not seem to convert it.)

ActionMailer with attachments, body is blank
I am trying to use the Rails Recipe for sending emails with
attachments. However, when I add an attachment, my body fails to
render. The resulting email has the attachment, but is blank otherwise.
In the book, it mentions that this is "broken" in rails 1.0 and to
upgrade to a newer version or edge rails. Well, I am running on 1.1.2
and it''s still happening. When I look

Problem with Actionmailer/TMail & decoding Apple Mail Attachments
Im having problems with Apple Mail and decoding attachments that are
sent from it. I''m not 100% sure but I think it might have something to
do with them being inline. I''m a bit stumped, I haven''t managed to
find anything about this anywhere and just wondered if anyone had come
up again this?

Rails 3.0.7 ActionMailer attachments
Hello,
I''m converting my 2.3.8 application to 3.0.7 and have run into a snag
with forwarding emails from the app with an attachment. The attachment
appears in the email as 1 byte in size and thus corrupt. The actual
file is fine and Rails seems to have access to the file. I''ve tried
multiple permutations but here''s what I''m doing...

accented characters in filenames mangled when rsyncing to a samba share
Hi folks,
I am having a problem rsyncing files with accents in the names. I've
seen similar problems reported a few times before in the archives but
they didn't seem to be referring to exactly the same problem as what I
have, and I'm not good enough at Linux to solve my problem by
generalising from the information there: sorry.
Anyway, my specific details are this. I am running rsync

Help request from non-expert: mounting a samba drive with the right charset for accented filenames
Hi all,
I hope someone might be able to offer me some advice. I have a NAS
box, a QNAP TS-109 which runs a version of Debian Linux. It has a
local ext3 drive, and I also smbmount a network drive on it (a Lacie
ED mini which I have tried formatted as both ext3 and FAT32 without
solving my problems).
My problem is that I am unable to correctly rsync files with accented
characters in the names

Dovecot failing to parse some UTF-8 encoded attachment filenames, returning empty string instead
Hi,
I'm seeing a strange problem with some attachment filenames that are
UTF-8 encoded. The problem seems to be related to spaces and/or
unusual characters in filenames, like accented characters (or perhaps
just to filenames if UTF-8 encoded; I've not explored that fully).
These filenames are shown as empty strings in IMAP using Dovecot. I've
attached a sample message that exhibits

Using UTF8 under mysql in Centos6
Hi all,
I am trying to configure utf8 in mysql under centos6 to display
special characters, like accents. I use this mysql instance to store
plain syslog logs. I have configured this under my.cnf:
[mysqld]
init_connect = 'SET collation_connection = utf8_general_ci'
init_connect = 'SET NAMES utf8'
character-set-server = utf8
collation-server = utf8_general_ci

Problem with implicit multipart emails using ActionMailer in Rails 2.3.3
With earlier versions of Rails ActionMailer used to implicitly send
multipart (text/plain and text/html) email messages for me, but it
looks like now it''s sending two text/plain parts.
Simplified details:
Here''s my model:
class Notifications < ActionMailer::Base
def confirmation(sent_at = Time.now)

ActionMailer tmail/quoting.rb problem
Hi,
Why did you allow this incompatibility? ;)
* fixtures/notifications/signup:

@expected.body = read_fixture(''signup'')
p @expected.body
#=> " foo\n"
# because text.gsub(/_/," ")
If you enhance TMail::Mail#body like this,
I want you to convert mail.body code in render_body.
My mailer code now:

Rails DB defaults to utf8 for mysql -- but unicode for postgresql
Hi,
Creating a new Rails application with -d postgresql sets the encoding in
the database.yml to unicode
Creating a new Rails with -d mysql sets the encoding to utf8
Any ideas why this difference?
I''ve been having problems with encoding due to localization, accents,
json and what no. I thought I was using utf8 and not unicode. Would this
have any impact?
If this would be an issue?

Accents in filenames on vfat filesystem
Hello.
I am trying to create a text file that contains an accent like '?' in it's
filename on a vfat filesystem. This generates an error like the following:
"test?.txt" E212: Can't open file for writing
I have made a 'modprobe nls_cp850' and 'modprobe nls_iso8859-1' to load
those needed modules.
Then I mounted my FAT32 partition like this:

Sweave and accents
Hello.
I want to write my notes in Sweave in my own language (spanish). But
my language has accents and when I run Sweave in R to translate my Snw
file into the tex file the accents are translated into unrecognizable
characters.
For example, the word "cami?n" (truck) is translated into "cami??n"
Somebody knows how can I do it?
One solution I don't like is using a

Input encoding problem when using sweave with xetex
Hello
Because I want to use different true type fonts with latex, I''m using the
XeTeX typesetting engine for my sweave-documents. I''m using Lyx with Sweave
on a Windows 7 PC and have set up LyX to work with XeTeX according to the
following instructions:
http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/XeTeX
Because the input file for XeTeX is assumed to be in UTF-8 encoding, I set
