Do I need to use sessions if I don't store anything in them?
Hi,
I got very small app that has user part and admin part. The problem is
that after a while the sessions table has ~150mb. I don''t really need
to store any user data in the session for the user part. I only need
it for the admin part.
Can I simply turn session off in controllers from the user part? Are
there any drawbacks of turning the session off?

Attachment_fu, polymorphism and customization
Hi,
I got Image model that has_attachment and belongs_to 2 other models
via polymorphic association.
The problem is that I''d like to customize has_attachment options
(resize image) depending on which model the Image is related to - i.e.
if Image belongs to Article it should be resized using different
settings than if it belongs to Header.
Is there a smart way to do it or do I have to

Wine failure logs
I'm experimenting with Wine under Kubuntu Hardy Heron, on a former Vista laptop (boy, does it run noticeably faster on Linux). The deal is that my son wants to move to Linux on his desktop, but still have access to particular games that he plays. The laptop is the testbed. Before trying to install any of the games, I tried out three applications that I find useful, Orbitron, Country Codes and

Query scoring - WTF?
Hi!
I thought I understood Ferret''s query scoring and how to tweak
results using boost values. What I currently experience however,
leaves me completely baffled.
Perhaps someone can shed some light on the scoring algorithm, because
asking Ferret to "explain" the score for a particular document isn''t
as informative as I thought. Actually, it confuses me even

#3136 - Country codes in country_select
http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/3136
Simple patch, but in following with others I figured I''d post a quick
email to this list.
All this does is adds functionality of country_select to allow people to
build country select boxes that use country codes. It doesn''t modify
default behaviour, and the test suite has been updated.
I''ve seen a few people trying to figure out

Rails doesn't validate create_model or build_model (has_one association)
I''ve got User has_one Shop. Rails is not validating when I tried
create_shop or build_shop, neither in the browser nor the rails console.
My code:

attr_protected :user_id
belongs_to :user
validates_presence_of :name, :primary_address, :city, :country_code,

Stub / Mock - A little guidance?
Hi there,
I''m still trying to wrap my head around when to use a stub and a mock.
If I understand this right, I should be using a ''mock'' when imitating
an object, but not its behavior. I should be using a stub when I want
to imitate the behavior of an object. Does that sound about right?
With that said, I''m struggling a little trying to spec out this
instance

thanks
Dear all,
Thanks to those 3 people who sent me answers to my question. Got
the problem solved. Great!
Now, another question of mine is:
I would like to run an R script from the Linux prompt. Is there any way
possible to do this? The reason is, the calculation that I'm doing takes a
few hours, and I would like to automatize it.
Or does it mean that I have to run source within the R

yp dir
Hi All,
Maybe a strange question, is there any info or maybe even an template
for setting up an yp directory!
The idea to set one up for local purpuses like: espescially dutch
languages would be nice!
Maybe an extra setting in the stream clients to also give in the
language and maybe even country of orgin of the content could be any
help with that, could be a nice extra search option too for

win32-etc-0.2.2 testing wanted
I''ve commited code for win32-etc 0.2.2, which adds the configure_user and
configure_group methods. Testing appreciated. On my home system, I can''t
get configure_user to work, but I haven''t any real idea why it fails. The
configure_group method seems to work fine, however.

ActiveResource - xml and json format return different results
Hi,
I''m using Rails 2.1.2. and I wanted to switch ActiveResource format to
JSON and thought that it will work smoothly, but unfortunately it
wasn''t the case.
XML and JSON formats generate different objects:
XML version
#<User:0xb7658440 @prefix_options={}, @attributes={"created_at"=>Mon
Nov 28 11...}>
JSON version
#<User:0xb746af5c @prefix_options={},

AJAX rendered select doesn''t get submitted
I have implemented the AJAX observe_field to filter the state/province options
in my address form. This works great except when I submit the form, @params
doesn''t contain the select element.
_address_form.rhtml relevant snippet:
<%= collection_select(:address, "country", Country.find(:all, :order =>
"position"), :code, :name, {:prompt => "-- Select

RJS in Internet Explorer to update a list box
Hi,
I''m trying some RJS to update a series of list boxes in which the user
selects a state, and the following list gets updated with a list of
counties, and the same for the next list of areas.
My code works perfectly (albeit a bit slow) on Firefox, but on Internet
Explorer it clears the list box (instead of filling it) and Netscape
shows all the counties cramped together on one

Q: PRI leading 0 (area access code) or 00 (country access code) missing on incoming callerid
hi,
on our incoming E1-PRI from german telco Arcor the leading 0 for the
(area access code in europe) and the 00 (country accescode in europe)
are missing on incoming callerids.
only prepending a single 0 is not the solution as suggested by some
writers on this list, because there is no way to differ between national
and international callerids and it's not possible to make the decission

Constants in models are initialized before fixtures are loaded?
Hi,
here''s simplified code from the model:
class Foo < AR::Base
FIRST = Foo.first.id
end
The problem is that when testing I get well known error: "Called id
for nil...". I guess that this constant is initialized before the
fixtures are loaded.
Is there any way to fix it?
