deploying mongrel with capistrano
I''m wondering if anyone has built a Capistrano task that will deploy mongrel either standalone or along with a rails app. I''ve been looking at possibilities for doing this but still new to using both having switched from using FCGI+Lighty and deploying by hand. Thanks, Curtis

Fails to restart mongrel cluster after Capistrano rollback (PIDs not deleted)
Hi, I am deploying a Rails website using Capistrano to a VPS running the site through Apache and Mongrel. ''cap deploy'' works fine, and mongrels are restarted. When I execute ''cap deploy:rollback'', however, my script fails to restart the mongrels giving this error: !!! PID file tmp/pids/mongrel.5000.pid already exists. Mongrel could be running already.

Issues with mongrel PID files when restarting clusters with Capistrano
Hey all: When using capistrano and/or manually restarting mongrel clusters we encounter errors when restarting that states: ** !!! PID file log/mongrel.8010.pid already exists. Mongrel could be running already. Check your log/mongrel.log for errors. ** !!! Exiting with error. You must stop mongrel and clear the .pid before I''ll attempt a start. ** !!! PID file log/mongrel.8011.pid

capistrano+mongrel struggles
Hello, I am trying to deploy on to OS X Server with capistrano+mongrel+apache2, etc. I''m trying to do a "cap cold_deploy" as recommended here: http://blog.codahale.com/2006/06/19/time-for-a-grown-up-server-rails-mongrel-apache-capistrano-and-you/ I had a devil of a time getting cap to find the mongrel_rails command (which is in /opt/local/bin) on the server. I set the

Deploying with Capistrano via cron
I''m attempting to auto deploy a rails application to a development server periodically during ongoing development. I''ve setup ssh keys to allow the proper user auto login permissions, but have ran into 2 issues. 1. Help w/ Apache Proxying Mongrel
I''m running Apache 2.0 as a proxy to several Mongrel/Rails apps, so that all of my Mongrel apps can be routed through the single Apache IP address. Apache 2.0 is already in use on the system, which is why I haven''t decided to use Apache 2.2. The problem I''m having is that this setup only works for Rails apps that do not use the public/index.html file as the main

"reaper" is not picking up new changes to my application???
Hi, Can anyone shed any light on why "reaper" (whilst seemingly working re restarting my mongrel ruby process) does not pick up changes to my application? (e.g. changing a title in a view for example). It''s like the "mongrel_rails start etc..." is just restarting the current process but ignoring the new details re where the new application directory is. That is

mongrel cluster restart with capistrano fails but manually works
Hi all, I am out of my head here... I have a 3 node cluster with 10 mongrels running on each. When I deploy, I break all the mongrels every time. I have tried just about everything. I can restart my mongrels without a hitch manually, it''s only when I use cap deploy. Maybe I am missing something here... so if I can get some help it would be appreciated. The errors are the typical mongrel

Deploying from local machine to remote host using capistrano?
Hi, I would like to deploy a RoR application from my local machine to a remote host. Looks like the capistrano assumes that you are using an internet accessible host for the SVN repository and doesn''t checkout files using file:///! Did I miss some configuration? How do other people handle their application deployment from your local machine? Thanks for your feedback. Regards, Hari

deploying with capistrano and bundler
I''m deploying via capistrano but when I try and do a bundle install it asks for my password to install the gems. I give it a password but oddly enough the password appears on the console in plain text and when I press enter, nothing happens. I waited for a couple hours and still nothing happened, so how am I supposed to run bundler with capistrano? -- You received this message because

Deploying Sites : Capistrano
I have three distinct configurations I need to maintain: - local dev - staging server (for client approval and test) - production server Right now I''m relying on rsync and sweat to get things right. Obviously Capistrano looks like the silver bullet, but it seems to rely on Subversion over http as a dependency. Is this correct? I''m running svn on my local machine and backing

Deploying without capistrano, using git pull?
I''m NOT working on an enterprisey big time rails application; just something for my personal site. I''ve been deploying via local> git push origin master remote> git pull origin remote> sudo /etc/init.d/httpd restart Trying to decide if this is sufficient, or if learning capistrano and setting that up will give me any advantages over this? Thanks, Dave

Apache2, Mongrel & multiple apps
I''m running Apache 2.0 as a proxy to several Mongrel/Rails apps, so that all of my Mongrel apps can be routed through the single Apache IP address. The problem I''m having is that this setup works well for apps that do not use the public/index.html file as the main page. For any apps that do use public/inedx.html as the main page, none of the links off of index.html work. So no

Deploying to a staging server using Capistrano: how to start up BackgrounDRb?
Hi. I am using BackgrounDRb to process thumbnails and upload to S3 - things are hunky-dory in development (thumbs are generated, these are uploaded to S3, the metadata is saved to trhe DB, and I get a nice status page updated by periodic calls via ask_status), but when I tried to deploy to our staging server and stop/start BackgrounDRb via Capistrano, things blew up - well, not exactly,
