X forwarding fails, Linux 2.4.0-test[8,9]
X forwarding doesn't work for me under Linux kernels 2.4.0-test8 or test9,
using OpenSSH 2.2.0p1 (as packaged in Debian woody.) When I try to ssh to my
machine, the client spits out the following pieces of information:

heap error while trying to run TrueSync Dekstop
Hello,
I'm trying to run the "TrueSync Desktop" app (the equivalent of Hotsync
for non-Palm handhelds, but without any Linux port, unfortunately), and
I get the following error:

Remote port forwarding problems
I've been trying to get remote port forwarding to work between redhat
6.2 boxes
using openssh 2.2.0p1. One box is running the stock kernel, the other
is running
2.4.0-test9 currently.
The command I type is:
ssh -v -R 8080:localhost:8080 <remote machine>
I've also used the machine name and ip address for the local machine.
The -v shows these curious messages:
debug: read DSA

Poor performance with AFR
I have just finished my first steps with glusterfs. Realizing in
principle what I wanted to do (including installation from source) was
astonishingly easy; however, the performance is extremely poor. Thus,
I'd appreciate comments and suggestions what to do/try next.
* Operating system is Ubuntu 8.04.1 (32bit on servers, 64bit on client)
* glusterfs is 1.3.12; compiled from source;

[PATCH -next 0/2] virtio-net: Advised MTU feature
The following series adds the ability for a hypervisor to set an MTU on the
guest during feature negotiation phase. This is useful for VM orchestration
when, for instance, tunneling is involved and the MTU of the various systems
should be homogenous.
The first patch adds the feature bit as described in the proposed VFIO spec

scp vs ftp performance on SGI IRIX????????
Hi,
Running OpenSSH 3.5p1 or 3.7.1p2 on two SGI orgin 300 systems of IRIX
6.5.17 with
4 600MHz CPU and gigabits network.
Transfer a 1GB file with ftp took 28 seconds.
Transfer a 1GB file with scp took 148 seconds.
Use "snoop" to capture all network packets between these two systems. Ftp
tansmitted
about 107840 packets, but scp transmitted about 763339 packets.
Is this normal? Why?

Flexible rbind
Dear All,
I am trying to create a empty structure that I want to fill gradually
through the code.
I want to use something like rbind to create the basic structure first.
I am looking for a possibility to do an rbind where the columns names
dont match fully (but the missing columns can be defaulted to either
zero or n/a) (my actual data has a lot of columns).
Please see the data frames below

2.6 /ext3 and audio
http://www.alsa-project.org/~iwai/audio-latency.pdf
seems to suggest that ext3 should not be used with 2.6 kernels for audio
work. Why is this, and is there likely to be any improvement?

Again major maildir syncing updates:
- uidlist file is accessed and rewritten a lot less often now than
before
- mail duplicates are detected and handled properly by renaming them to
new base name
- message flag updates and expunging before did two full syncs for cur/
directory. now it does only one.
- some fixes to syncing in read-only / out-of-quota

samba and openldap authentication issues!
Alight, I've been working on this for too many hours straight. Any
help would be much appreciated!
(I posted this online to linux questions, it could be easier to read
on there... http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-server-73/samba-and-openldap-authentication-issues-637647/)
The problem is users created in smbldap-useradd can not login, unless
they also are a local user. for

KVM virtio bonding bandwidth problem
(first post)
Dear all,
I have been wrestling with this issue for the past few days ; googling
around doesn't seem to yield anything useful, hence this cry for help.
Setup :
- I am running several RHEL5.4 KVM virtio guest instances on a Dell PE
R805 RHEL5.4 host. Host and guests are fully updated ; I am using iperf
to test available bandwidth from 3 different locations (clients) in the

Backwards compatability
In doing my testing I''m wondering if maintaining backwards compatability
for existing applications is important. The question boils down to
this: Are there sufficient applications that are using wxRuby (pre
swig) that we should expect to have to support all/most without changes
or should we expect that most applications will need to learn the ''new''
ways things

[PATCH] Ensure blktap reports I/O errors back to guest
There are a number of flaws in the blktap userspace daemon when dealing
with I/O errors.
- The backends which use AIO check the io_events.res member to determine
if an I/O error occurred. Which is good. But when calling the callback
to signal completion of the I/O, they pass the io_events.res2 member
Now this seems fine at first glance[1]
"res is the usual result of an I/O

using one-time passwords
Hi,
Is there any way to use something like OPIE (one-time passwords in
everything, S/KEY) with dovecot?
Here's what I want to do ultimately:
* have an AUTH=XYZ method that relies on S/KEY as provided by the
libpam-opie module (well, maybe not through pam)
* have dovecot advertise authentication as follows:
- local : PLAIN, XYZ
- remote (encrypted) : EXTERNAL, and

Bandwidth limiting
Hello.
I need help with limiting bandwidth. I have read every tutorial I''ve come
over and I just can''t make anything work.
Ok, here''s the scenario:
I have a gateway, which has five network interfaces (eth0 -> eth4), eth0 is
the ''external'' one and eth[1-4] are supposed to be limited to 128Kbit/s each.
The interfaces eth[1-4] each have a C-class
