Rails 2.0.2 + RJS
Hi I had ajax commenting on my app, which worked perfectly on Rails v1.2.6, but does not work the same in Rails 2.02. Basically the comment gets added, but the visual effects do not work (ie lines 2 + 3 of create.rjs) create.js page.insert_html :bottom, ''comments'', :partial => ''comment'' page.visual_effect :appear, "comment_#{@comment.id}"

Proposed API change for respond_to
Ez (or someone) asked on #merb tonight whether respond_to was the right API for what it does. After some discussion and pasties, I offer the following proposed API for content negotiation and response format selection: First, what does respond_to do right now? I see at as performing 3 distinct operations: 1. parse params[:format] and the accepts header to find out what format the

mocking missing methods
Hi folks. So I''m using mocha on a ruby project, and I really like it. One thing I''ve noticed is that it can be a bit "surprising" when I''m mocking methods that don''t exist on an object, and I think there''s an easyish fix. At the moment, you use sheep = mock() to create a mock sheep. What I''d like to do is something like sheep =

RESTful web service tutorial?
Hi, I would like to turn some of our simulation codes out to pasture and string some of them together by draping them in web services. I''m looking for a RESTful Camping tutorial to get started ... pointers appreciated. Some simple example applications: airfoil force calculator: feed it an airfoil geometry, an angle of attack, and a Mach number, and it returns the lift, drag, and

Missing Template with edge Rails (2.3)
After freezing edge rails, all my controller examples are failing with MissingTemplate errors. e.g., "Missing template attachments/create.erb in view path app/views" Trying to actually render the views gives me the same error. I noticed I can fix most of them by using respond_do but I usually never use it. I almost always only need to respond to one format in one action so I omit

Version naming to use in a RoR proyect
Hi everyone, I would need to know if RoR follow any policy for version naming; I mean, something like linux´s kernel does or similar. For instance, kernel uses numbers separated in groups by dots (i.e. pre 2.6 - AA.BB.CC). These groups mean differents fixtures, bugs fixed... I will start a big proyect from scratch with rails and I want to choose now a standart to use and avoid future problems

respond_to API
I''ll probably do my respond_to API rewrite, as discussed here: http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/merb-devel/2007-September/000275.html sometime this week, unless someone has come up with a better API. I''ll also work in http://merb.devjavu.com/ticket/227 at the same time. Any serious objections?

Non-Ruby REST client for Ruby REST server
Hi, I have a Rails 2 app and I wand to provide an API for 3rd party applications written on any language the customer uses. My thoughts are that the best way of providing it is by taking advantage of rails RESTfulness and let them perform CRUD actions on my data through it. But I don''t seem to find many information on how to achieve this. I first want to develop .NET clients (or web

RSpec, REST and different formats
Is anyone using RSpec with RESTful rails apps? In my rails controllers I check request.respond_to? and render different views accordingly. I noticed that the get method in the rails plugin doesn''t accept headers: controller_mixin.rb line 92 def get(action, parameters = nil) @request.env[''REQUEST_METHOD''] = ''GET'' process action,

Nested Resource Route Helpers
Hello all, I''m working on a Rails app and I have resources nested three deep - let''s call them user, project, and issues. The route helpers now look like user_project_issue_path(@user, @project, @issue). Rails versions and documentation, confused learning rails
Okay, I am new to rails. I see that the new release of rails does not apply to anything on the site with regards to tutorials including screencasts. What I don''t understand is how I am suppose to learn Rails 2.0 if there is no docmentation for it. I did see that on peepcode there is a pdf for what has changed but how does that help me? How do I get an understanding of the design

What is the point of using :format in routes?
Today I had a strange behavior that made me suspect of jQuery at first, but then it happened that I''ve faced two gotchas, one from CoffeeScript and one from Rails itself. I have something like this: routes.rb post ''/fields/:id.:format'' => ''fields#show'', as: :field, constraints: {id: /\d+/} post ''/fields/remove/:id''

"best practices" for Rails serving RESTful JSON services for use by AngularJS, Ember.js, etc.
I''ve been writing a gem to implement and extend common controller functionality so that Rails can be used with Javascript frameworks like AngularJS (which we are using), Ember.js, etc. in such a way that the user doesn''t have to tweak a a bunch of rails g controller boilerplate code to provide services for use in these frameworks that in turn would require various changes to
