Limiting speed of individual TCP sessions ?
Hi All,
Does anyone know of a way to limit the speed of *individual* TCP sessions,
but without placing any overall bandwidth limits, and without requiring an
explicit QoS entry for every ip address the machine is communicating with ?
The scenario is a mailserver - say you want to limit individual TCP
sessions (pop3, smtp etc) to no more than 512Kbit so that an individual

Can i attach another qdisc under classes or root qdisc?
now, i''m learning and try to read a lot of article about tc command in linux for setting traffic shaper.
but i''m doubt about
In the theory about tc command ... In general, we define class under root qdisc
but Is it can be possible ???? If we define another qdisc under root qdisc, Can i do it?
because i have just read tc command syntax and i found this point ...

Re:Routing for Squid
Hi asa,
You can make a script to ping your internet gateway
every 5 minutes and if it´s down it automatically switch
the default route do gateway 2. You set a script to run
x time with cron job.

How to apply a patch ?
Hi,
I''m using kernel 2.4.20 and like to use Stephen Hemminger ''s packet
delay scheduler patch
the patch is there :

can anyone explain me how to apply it ?

Hi all,
I''m having a hell of a time getting my IFB to work. I know I''ve done
this before, so I''m missing something stupid. Can anybody tell me what
it might be?

modprobe act_mirred
modprobe 8021q
brctl addbr br0
brctl setfd br0 0

[PATCH] HTB O(1) class lookup
This patch changes HTB''s class storage from hash+lists to a two-level linear
array, so it can do constant time (O(1)) class lookup by classid. It improves
scalability for large number of classes.
Without the patch, ~14k htb classes can starve a Xeon-3.2 at only 15kpps,
using most of it''s cycles traversing lists in htb_find(). The patch
eliminates this problem, and has a

HFSC Advanced Limiting
I am investigating changing our broadband bandwidth control scripts over to HFSC. What I would like to accomplish is this:
{ * DOWNLOAD *
I need a download class for each user (we''ll call it Class 1) that offers a minimum of lets say 384Kbps and a maximum of 1.5Mbps.
The rates between 384Kbps and 1.5Mbps should be shared among all users.
Each user should always be able to get at

Rate limits whithin rate limits
Hi all,
I''m sure I''m soing something wrong here.
I am trying to set up a rate limit inside another rate limit.
eg. I have a 512K rate limit on a particular VLAN. I am using an IFB so
that packets passing through the bridge are counted at each port.(ie the
throughput is limited to 512K, not just the traffic in one direction.)
This part works OK, but I also want to limit a

HFSC and that ATM overhead problem (Another VOIP QoS post. Ahhhh)
G''Day
I would like to be able to use my VOIP telephone over a saturated
ADSL link whilst enjoying optimum audio quality and utilising all of the
bandwidth I pay for. It is about this situation that I write.
HFSC appears to be the queueing discipline of choice for VOIP. In order
for this to work, though, do I have to account for the ATM overhead in
the small VOIP packets by defining my

HFSC and prioritization
I''m using HFSC to limit bandwidth for our wireless customers. However,
I''d also like the bandwidth prioritized based on packet type. This is
what I''m trying right now, and I''d just like some input from anyone out
there knowledgeable in this on whether it does what I want it to do:
Eth1 -> HFSC

Suggestion - table of QoS mechanisms
Hi,
A thought for the list. As I mentioned in another
posting, there are a lot of QoS mechanisms out there.
Linux supports some, but not all. Some patchsets add
others, but don''t work for all kernels. There are also
userland implementations, usually sitting in software
routers, but there are other packages.
Would it be helpful if I worked on a table of what''s
out there for

how to add burstable rate?
Hi,
I managed to fix 128kbit for an IP address of 192.168.200.3 as below: -

tc class add dev eth3 parent 1: classid 1:1 cbq rate 128kbit allot 1500

HTB stalling
Hi
Couple months ago I started to have a strange problem with HTB.
My setup is Fedora Core 2 + Pentium 2 233 + 128 MB of ram and its serving as
a router.
For some time since going to kernel 2.6 my HTB QoS Stalls for couple
seconds, every couple minutes. If the connection load is bigger the stalling
is more frequent and takes longer.
I isolated the problem to be with HTB (CBQ works fine).

Traffic shaper based on UIDs
Hello!
I need assistance to solve my problem related to traffic shaping based on
the user ids.
The problem: each unix user (of the linux host) has to be limited with
incoming channel (internet) bandwidth. I need this to implement
internet access solution based on ltsp (http://www.ltsp.org).
As far as I know the best way to shape traffic in linux is CBQ.
But there is no filter based on unix

PRIO / CBQ / HTB queue drop algorithm
Hello all.
I''ve been struggling to QoS VoIP at our site and have a successful
implementation at this point. Basically I had to set aside enough
bandwidth for VoIP by placing all other traffic behind an HTB (multiple
classes and queues behind it). Everything is fine. Here''s the diagram:

more on cbq parameters
While I''m thinking about that review of howto changes, here are a few
other responses about things I don''t believe. I''ll be interested in
more info if anyone has any.

[from new doc]
Besides being classful, CBQ is also a shaper and it is in that aspect
that it really doesn''t work very well. It should work like this.
I''ve not noticed that it
