Marshal Data too short error with ActiveRecord sess. storage
I''m seeing a "marshal data too short" error with an ActiveRecord store for my session data. Other posts say that this happens when the size of the session data exceeds the size of the "data" column in the sessions table. But my "data" column is a TEXT field so it seems unlikely that I could have blown it out. Has anyone else seen "marshal data too

Login Engine, user object "marshal data too short"?
This suddenly started happening to my app today. No code changes, so I expect that this has something to do with a server change. I''m using Login Engine and ActiveRecord sessions. LE stores the whole user object in the session, then pulls it out as needed with UserController#current_user. Out of the blue today this starts failing with the infamous "you''re serializing AR

Can you unserialize an object from the db?
I don''t even know if this is possible. I want to use an object as an attribute for one of my classes. I can save it to the db fine, looks like...but I need to be able to use it after I pull the object from the db. Right now the attribute is just a String, but I need it to be a Runt::Intersect object. Does anyone know how I can unserialize the attribute so I can use it as an object?

Storing an object in the db
I''ve asked this before, but never got a working response. I''d like to store an object inside a binary field in my db. So I''d have a class like this class MyAwesomeClass def do_something_awesome ... end end then class MyRecord < ActiveRecord::Base end the table my_record would have a binary field, my_object, that would store an object of

Question about object permanence/marshalling
Hello,   I am trying to write some code that dumps R objects to the harddisk in a binary format so they can be quickly re-used later. Goal is to save time. The objects may be quite large (e.g. classes for a GUI). I was thinking that save() and load() would be suitable for this (until now I only thought it could be used for 'real' data, e.g. matrices, data.frames etc), but I am hoping any

marshaling ActiveRecord objects: how to unload associations?
I''m marshaling ActiveRecord objects, and I want them to be as small as possible. How can I unload everything that can be reloaded from the database? If they''re marshaled before any of the associations are referenced then the referenced objects aren''t dumped. But if the association has been loaded, how can I unload it? AssociationProxy.reset doesn''t seem to do

IronRuby's Marshal.dump doesn't work with CLR types, or ruby types backed by a CLR type
Backstory: I''m trying to use DRb for some in-house utility code. DRb itself seems to work fine, but I found that when I misspelled a method name, instead of reporting back a NoMethodError, the IronRuby process crashed immediately to the console. This is using a relatively recent build of IronRuby from Github Steps to repro: e = RuntimeError.new ''xyz'' dumped =

use of Marshal with wxruby classes
Is it possible to use Marshal with wxruby classes to serialize an application''s state? I tried a minimal example of simply serializing a minimal frame object, and I get the error "no marshal_dump is defined for class MinimalFrame". I don''t fully understand this because I also tried another minimal example of dumping a class which did not defined a marshal_dump, and it

rake error - please help
Hi- I''m suddenly getting this rake error where as before I wasn''t. And nothing''s been changed. As you can see it says something about "load_missing_constant". Is my development environment broken? Can someone please tell me what this error means?: bbgun@echobase:~/RailsProjects/rails_space$ rake test:functionals (in /home/bbgun/RailsProjects/rails_space)

Rails 3 / RSpec 2 use_transactional_fixtures and after_commit
We''re migrating a Rails 2.3.x application to Rails 3 and RSpec 2.x. In Rails 2.3.x we were using https://github.com/freelancing-god/after_commit to provide after_commit functionality (now provided by Rails 3). The plugin version of after_commit came with some helpers to make testing with `use_transactional_fixtures = true` work. From: https://github.com/freelancing-god/after_commit

marshalling mechanized
hi all, in the course of my hacking i wanted to marshal mechanized objects (whether the agent, page, or other). this may be a rather particular use-case, but i figured i would report. marshalling does not work on certain objects, in particular IO objects, and since mechanized uses Net::HTTP it makes use of IO objects. so it turns out that it you just do a = WWW::Mechanize.new page = a.get

Managing Hierarchical Data
Hello, I am in the process of trying to date hierarchical data in a MySQL database and convert it into a treeview view JS scripting. As a beginner to ROR there are still many unknown things to me, and handling this sort of data is one of them. My question is this: Is there any built in functionality for handling hierarchical data (via a MySQL DB) in Rails/Ruby? If there is can someone please

Serializing AR Objects
I need to serialize a composite AR model and save it to a database field. Reading up on Ruby''s Marshaling, it seems there could be problems with the version numbering thing of the default dump/load methods. As I understand it, Ruby internally marks the serialized data with the current Ruby language version, and when loading that data, if the major version is changed, the loading

ActiveRecord#to_param
Hello, to implement some some kind of optimistic locking, I want to build a view, where an object is displayed together with a link containing the data of the displayed object. My first try looked something like <%= object.object_discription %> <%= link_to "action", :action => "take_action", :data => object %> this won''t work because object is of

Alternative to storing ActiveRecord object in session
I''m writing a wizard-like module in my application where, in a series of steps, the user builds upon an ActiveRecord object, and in the end, saves the AR object into the database. The ActiveRecord object is fairly complex, with a has_many association that could potentially get large, so I don''t want to store it directly in the session. In fact, having done so already caused a

Marshal Data Too Short Error
I am using Ruby 1.8.2 on WinXP and am receiving a "Marshal Data Too Short" error. I havent been able to repeat the error as it seems to happen randomly in my rails program. However, the version of Ruby I''m using already has the file.binmode lines outlined in: http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/MarshalDataTooShort. If possible I''d like to avoid switching to
