has_and_belongs_to_many find with multiple predicates?
Hi,
I have a habtm relationship between ''Posts'' and ''Tags'' and am trying to
get a list of Posts that have multiple tags. Something like:
@posts = Posts.find_posts_with_tag_ids[1, 3, 5]
Is this catered for in ActiveRecord or should I write my own SQL
statement?
Thanks,

table that have many-to-may relationship to itself
In a social netowrk data model, users belongs other users, and can have
many friends as users, so it is a many to many relatioship.
the class definition could be

But how it looks like in the mysql database tables in a "joined" users
table.
The question really is: what is the table looks like when a model has

Queries with has_and_belongs_to_many relationship
I was able to create a has_and_belongs_to_many relationship for my app,
but now I''m not too sure how to write queries for it.
Basically, I have a table ''courses'' that has_and_belongs_to_many
''categories'' and vice versa
So I''m trying to figure out how I would find only the courses that
belong to a category that I specify.

Reaching into a has_and_belongs_to_many - will :through work?
Hi. I''m hoping somebody can tell me that I''ve just gotten my syntax
wrong and I can in fact do what I want to do.
I''ve got a Group, and a Group has_many Campaigns.
Campaign has_and_belongs_to_many Users (and, naturally, vice versa).
So I''ve got a groups table, a campaigns table (that has a group_id), a
campaigns_users join table (with campaign_id and

Problems with multiple ''id'' columns in a join_table
I have a problem declaring a relationship through a join_table ; the SQL
generated by ActiveRecord is correct, but there are two columns called
''id'', and the final object gets the ''wrong'' column ...
Here''s a more detailed description of the data, code, and problem :-
There''s a People table, with id, name, and a few things.

Storing additional data on join tables with Rails
Hi there
I need to store additional attributes on join table. Searching the
Wiki [1] revealed two possible methods:
1) push_with_attributes, as described by Justin Palmer [2].
Unfortunately, "this method is now deprecated" [3]. Even if it wasn''t,
there seem to be inherent problems with that approach, for example
with updating those additional attributes, though Joshua Muheim

HABTM: Find sorted by number of associations
Hi,
I''ve been googling and searching the forums for some time
but can''t seem to find exactly what I''m looking for.
Suppose User HABTM Products (for example a favorites list). I would like to
construct a single query for finding Products ordered by the number of
Users that have flagged them as favorites.
Although I can construct the query using SQL a with a

Is HABTM Dying?
For a while, I''ve been getting that HMT is replacing HABTM. It appears that
HMT can do all of what HABTM can do and more. The question is: Should I stop
using HABTM? Let''s take a simple case:
A case has many categories
For a given category, there are certain valid statuses

updating records in a many-to-many relationship
Im trying to establish relationships in a many to many table.
When I create a user, I do this to insert the different relationships
between the user and sports:
c.sports<<Sport.find_all_by_name(params[:sports])
where c is the user. The problem is, when I edit this user, and lets say
he adds a sport, I can''t use this because I get an error saying that
some records already

I have a self-referential has_many :through relationship setup to

Relationship and reflection
Hello,
I have a question.
I would like to know if there is a way with the reflection and
respond_to? to know if there is a relationship between tables.
When I say that I mean if inside a model there is a Has_many or
belongs_to declaration. Because I try to get this information
dynamically, during the execution of a script.
If someone has an idea even if it''s not with the reflection,

We''re building a system to organize the information about workshops

Also each workshop has a host, who is specific to a workshop being
held in a specific convention.

many-to-one relationship, do I need a second table?
Ok, to keep things short. Im wondering if I need a secondary
relationship table to handle my many-to-one relationships. Here is an
example of what I''ve written down. For instance say I want to find all
of the people in a given location.
class Location < AR:Base
has_many :people
end
class Person < AR:Base
belongs_to :location
end
My SQL tables look like:
