JavaScript book recommendations
No, not a question, but a few suggestions. I take it that everyone serious about using Prototype & Co. already has Christophe''s (Porteneuve) Prototype and Script.aculo.us book. Apart from that, I''d like to point out two new, library-agnostic books: Cameron Adams and several others The Art & Science of JavaScript Sitepoint 2008 http://www.sitepoint.com/books/jsdesign1/

Pref for beginner book: Wrox (Holzner) or Ruby for Rails?
I''m a beginner. I''ve done the apple tutorial, Agile ROR (the depot app, I stopped after that, a little to advanced with no base knowledge of Ruby), Why''s guide and my copy of Chris Pine''s book today. After Pine, I''m going to buy either the Wrox book or Ruby for Rails book. I did a search and there''s not too much on the Wrox book (Holzner)

recent ruby packages?
Does anyone know of a repository that's *trustworthy* (gotta worry 'bout malware) with newer ruby rpm's than RHEL has? OT: the more I deal with ruby, the less I like it. Someone here was ready to move to a newer version, and from the ruby.org website, they're apparently actively hostile to all RH-related distros, even though we're the most common in North America. They've

Object/Record foreign key IDs set to zero
Hello, Hope no one minds me just jumping in here with a question. I''m completely new to Ruby on Rails. I''ve been reading "Simply Rails 2", and following their examples. I reached a point where the unit tests were unexpectedly failing. Upon investigation, I discovered that when Rails loads the fixtures, the foreign keys aren''t being populated with the foreign

acts_as_tree with Modified Preorder Traversal?
Has anyone extended Rails''s acts_as_tree to use the Modified Preorder Traversal algorithm? This is a really clever trick for optimizing access to trees stored in databases, as described lucidly in this article: http://www.sitepoint.com/article/hierarchical-data-database/2 It adds two integer fields, a "left counter" and "right counter", to each row. Possible to push changes to nodes?
Dear readers, When I have made a change to a template, class or file, is it then possible to push this change to the node(s), so they get the changes now? I would like to be able to push the change from the master, and not have to login to each node and pull. Is that possible? "Linux aux petits oignons" - Book about Linux, based on CentOS 5.x
Hi, I'm currently busy finishing "Linux aux petits oignons", a practical introduction to Linux, aimed primarily at the frustrated Windows user. This is the first of two volumes, it's written in french, and all examples in the book are based on CentOS. (Note: looks like I'll have to update some screenshots to 5.3 :oD) Usually the first question that arises is: why not

Is Ruby on Rails the next step for the new generation?
Hi my 12 year old, WIX, is an amazing auto deductive computer whiz. I have to keep up... He is an excellent VB programmer and knows JAVA. I have been told ROR is the future. I want to guide WIX so he can build up a good methodical working knowledge but don''t want him to waste his time on archaic languages that will not be around soon...Should his next step be ROR or would you recommend
