Camping on Media Temple?
I''m getting into camping in a big way--I love that you can put
together full-fledged apps with so little code and overhead.
Does anyone know of any documentation about getting Camping apps
running on Media Temple''s GridServer? Of course I''ve found the
Camping server page[1], but I can''t work out how to associate running
camping apps with a (sub)domain

Deploying on a media temple (dv) server
Does anyone have any experience with this or do they have any
pointers?
I have been trying to deploy a basic radiant install to a media temple

Following the instructions here http://kb.mediatemple.net/article.php?id=279
and modifying the setup slightly (to point to my rails app instead of
their testapp)
no configuration errors but the application fails minus the ability to

Capistrano, Media Temple and their Grid Servers
Hey Everyone,
According to the comments section in this blog post MediaTemple has
their own capistrano deploy script:
http://blog.vixiom.com/2006/10/12/media-temple-tames-the-beast-new-ruby-on-rails-hosting-service-with-mongrel/
The problem is that this deploy script refers to a file called
''mt-capistrano'' that I can''t find anywhere.
Does anyone have any suggestions

Error when executing "rake db:migrate" with frozen Rails 2.1.0 on Media Temple
I''m hoping someone might have some insight into this, because I don''t
quite know how to figure this one out. I''m running the command with
Capistrano''s deploy:migrate to my (mt) Media Temple (gs) Grid Server,
but I get the same error (from "rake aborted!" and on below) when I
run "rake db:migrate" directly on the server in the

What is so hard about Rails deployment?
Recently there has been a lot of fuss about the ease of Rails
deployment. People made various claims, such as "I''ve deployed PHP,
Java, (insert something else here) and Rails. Rails is by far the most
painful." and "Java deployment (with Tomcat) is easier."
I have no experience with Java deployment. But I have a friend who has
worked on several high-end software

Sentinel Driver
I'm trying to run the Ardis Cutting Optimizer under
wine but it uses a Rainbow Sentinel driver to detect a
parallel port dongle for copy protection. I have the
dongle and I've installed the sentinel driver, but
when I run wine COWIN.exe I get the following:

Easiest defense against SQL injection in object creation?
I''ve been scouring the web for suggested Rails defenses against SQL
injection, but I haven''t found much on the object creation part.
Certainly using attr_protected, etc., is a good way to prevent unwanted
fields from being modified on the new object (if you''re passing a hash
as creation parameters), but what about escaping the POSTed info before
saving? Couldn''t

Configuration...
Hi have what might be some elementary questions. Really, what I"d love
would be for someone who has had good success to publish his/her
configuration files and, maybe, the output from ifconfig. At this point,
when I see the not-so-good performance I"m getting, I don't realistically
know if I'm in the right ballfield. It seems to me, that with so many

Temple of elemental evil - high CPU usage by X/ToEE
I installed ToEE under wine 0.9.42 and used ToEE noCD "patch" to make
it working but the problem is it's very slow. top says X is using 95%
of CPU and ToEE.exe 4,7% - 2 biggest processes.
Also in terminal wine throws a lot of:

file_column does not work with update model
When I am creating a model, everything works but not during update
(where I use Model.update_attributes(model_attributes) ).
I get the error:

passed to a file_column. Check if the form''s encoding has been set to

monster method (too hard for my skill level)
I need to write a method for calculating the fee for medical
procedures with respect to area. I have all the tables and data but
its hard to give that here. Can someone take a look at this ''stub''
method and help me out?

Inlining with the ORC JIT
Is it possible to inline functions compiled from C++ code into generated code that is fed, Module by Module, into the ORC JIT?
I'd like to add a Module compiled from C++ code into the JIT and then as I add later modules, functions from the first module are inlined in the later ones.
I already do this for file compilation/linking in my Common Lisp compiler “Clasp” (github.com/drmeister/clasp

lighttpd proxy w/ apache2
I''ve tried a bunch of things trying to get ruby/apache2 and php working
together. I looked over my earlier post and followed the instructions
on ezra''s website to install lighttpd on debian. I''ve gotten really far
but I think there is one bit missing:
1. I got apache2 and php working together
2. I got lighttpd working on port 3000 and my rails app launches ok

about package e1071
Hi,
This is Yan from Temple University. I recently read a paper
about SVM and tried to apply it with some dataset in R. I
downloaded a zip file e1071_1.3-12.zip from CRAN and used R
menu to install it. It seemed that the package was installed
successfully. But I failed to load the package and a error
message 'Error in parse(file, n, text, prompt) : syntax error

3D globe plot
Hi,
This is Yan, a graduate student from Temple University. My
current work involves drawing 3D plot in R or S-Plus. I have
a dataset containing distances between 18 cities in 4
continents. Using classical multi-deminsional scaling in 2
dimensions, I could seperate them successfully and plot with
different colors in a 2D figure, which is attacked. Then I do
the same in 3 dimensions and use

Base memory usage
Asterisk gurus....
I just installed asterisk 1.8.1.1 along with FreePBX on a fairly small
VPS (512mb standard, 512mb "burst"). I note that the asterisk process
is using about 209mb of memory just doing nothing (not configured to do
anything yet)
In contrast to this, my 1.6.1.2 installation from a little over a year
ago uses only 40mb and it's fully configured and running with

Hosting client applications - part time developer
I do web development outside of work and I have three new projects
starting soon from a little brouchureware site to larger applications. I
have a personal hosting account with TextDrive that allows me to run 3
domains, this is not going to be big enough to host the apps for my
clients.
How do other people host Rails sites & apps for their clients? All this
talk of VPS solutions etc

NT MD4 password check failed
I'm sorry for asking a question which has been asked so many times
before, but I can't seem to find the answer...
How do I get to access my home directory on a Linux server running
Samba from a Windows XP client?
I'm getting "NT MD4 password check failed" in the log file even though
the Windows client is listed in hosts.equiv. More information
below...
