tncg and bandwidth limiting
I''m trying to do some very simple rate-shaping on an interface. I want to
limit my 100baseT interface to 7 megs both ingress and egress of the
interface. I''ve been hacking my way through the documentation and some
examples and I''ve come up with the following configuration for tcng that
seems to do what I want.
I''m curious if some of the other experts out

howto reduce the ping?
Hi,
with the attached config my gaming ping is still +20ms, even if the line isn''t
saturated..can anybody give me a hint how to get a better response time?
my line: 1024/128kbit
outbound:
one htb qdisc for gaming (7kbps) prio 0 ceil 14kbps<- should get more traffic
when needed.
Htb again for irc and default.
inbound:

egress bandwidth not limited / limited extremely inaccurately
I''m just-so-fresh to the list, so hello everyone.
I''m having a realy hard time with setting up very simple bandwidth
management. What I am trying to do is setup a 10Mbit interface to send
at only 1920kbit to most of the network (to make sure it hardly ever
tops 2mbit). I did succeed with the ingress traffic... With egress
however, I get very odd results at different speeds.

how flexible is ingress traffic policing to bandwidth limit?
[I sent this earlier but I guess the list is subscriber-only?]
I just set up wondershaper, it has a simple filter on the downstream
direction to limit the bandwidth usage:
tc qdisc add dev $DEV handle ffff: ingress
tc filter add dev $DEV parent ffff: protocol ip prio 50 u32 match ip src \
0.0.0.0/0 police rate ${DOWNLINK}kbit burst 10k drop flowid :1
This is effective but is there any way to

centos 5 as p2p client
Hello,
I'm running centos5. I'm wanting this machine only, none of my other
ones, to participate in p2p file sharing, bittorrent, edonkey, maybe other
networks. Does anyone have a howto or step by step guide for this? I've
installed bittorrent and mldonkey clients, but neither is working, i'm
assuming gateway firewall issue, but i've enabled the correct ports, 6881

Question about how TC enforces bandwidth limiting
Hello,
I run one of my PCs as my personal router, with iptables+tc to control
traffic and be my firewall.
In TC, I use a combination of htb, qdisc and sfq (as well as prio) to
classify bandwidth. In my current setup, I have 10 classifications of my
bandwidth. (Even I admit this is probably more than I need, but at this
point I''m still learning, so I''ll just leave them be.)

Shaping incoming bandwidth
Hello Everyone,
i''m having problem in limiting bandwith on my external interface in the
server.
i''m having a network here which is online via a linux server with cbq
compiled in kernel.
i''m having eth0 as internal network card,
eth 1 as external network card
my internet bandwith line is 8kbps on eth1
i want to limit this 8kbps to 4kbps at eth1 and no shaping on

Limiting Bandwidth of an ppp interfaces
Hi everyone.
I''m working on a problem since some days.
I have a linux router with about 100 ppp interfaces. Each interface should
bei limited to an individual bandwidth of 1024kbit, 2048kbit or 3096kbit. Up
AND downstream. (let''s say for example 1024kbit upstream and 1024kbit
downstream)
The reason for this problem: I have to limit users to their booked
bandwidth, because

Divide bandwidth between 4 groups of ip with the same rate
Hello, I have begun to use the tc scripts since 2 weeks ago, so I am beginner. I am trying to divide my bandwidth in 4 independent ones. Each of these sub-bandwidths is assigned to 4 different groups of ip. Bandwidth sharing is allowed. I put a Linux with two Ethernet card between the router and the LAN. Eth1 is the card connected to the router and eth0 is the one connected to the LAN. My ISP

Limit pps not just bandwidth (kbps) on ingress
I want to limit pps (packets per second) not just bandwidth on the
ingress side. I can do this using IP tables but I''m curious if there is
a way to do this with TC.
Thanks.

tc ingress + iptables mark problem
Hi guys , i am starting to "play" with qos in linux. Well , i am
trying to setup an ingress filter but i do not know why it is not
working.
tc add qdisc dev eth0 ingress
tc filter add dev eth0 parent ffff: protocol ip prio 1 handle 1 fw
police rate 160kbit burst 256kbit drop flowid :1
After that :
iptables -A PREROUTING -t mangle --sport 80 -j MARK --set-mark 1
So , i think this

ingress can be used to control the incoming packet,

tc filter add dev eth0 parent ffff: protocol ip prio 5
u32 match ip src 172.16.1.22 police rate 10kbit burst
10k drop flowid :2

BitTorrent uploads enabled?
I''m seeing what may be sort of strange behavior - My machine is behind a
Shorewall firewall, which, in the rules section, includes:
AllowBitTorrent, any source, any dest
I''m wondering - how is my machine behind the firewall able to upload, since
no port forwarding related to bittorrent is taking place? (Just to clarify -
it IS uploading)
I looked at the AllowBitTorrent

tc ingress policing with multiple subnets
Hello everybody on the list,
I have the following situation where I want to police the speed of incoming
packets from specific subnets to 1024kbps and then police all the rest to
256kbps, which is the speed my ISP grants for the rest of the internet.
So, eth1 is the one connected to the cable modem and then to the internet.
I do:
tc qdisc add dev eth1 ingress handle ffff:
then:

Kernel Packet Traveling Diagram
Hi,
I find this diagram which details the kernel packet traveling :
http://www.docum.org/docum.org/kptd/
Is it up to date ?
I made some test and I put a DNAT rules in the PREROUTING table of an
interface and I attach it a ingress policy, the dst IP wasn''t changed. the
DNAT it isn''t yet make.
I''ve another question (I''m not sure is it the good mailing list), for

Why this stupid ingress tc does not work ?
Hi !
I wanted to shape my analog modem connection so I took these two lines
from the ''wondershaper'' script:
tc qdisc add dev $DEV handle ffff: ingress
#tc filter add dev $DEV parent ffff: protocol ip prio 50 u32 match ip
\ src 0.0.0.0/0 police rate ${DOWNLINK} burst 10k drop flowid :1

But, when I activate it, nothing comes back from the

Trying to do some very simple ingress limiting, no success
Hi,
I am trying to do some simple ingress limiting based on fwmark. I know
the ability and sense to do INGRESS limiting is ehm... limited ;-) but
still I want to try it.
I tried several things.
=== 1 ===
tcq ingress handle ffff:
tcf parent ffff: protocol ip prio 1 handle 1 fw police rate 12mbit burst 10k drop
tcf parent ffff: protocol ip prio 1 handle 2 fw police rate 10mbit burst 10k drop

tc and iptables trouble
Hi all
I have a trouble configuring the qdiscs, when I indicate the "perturb 10" option to tc, i gives me this error:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 parent 5:1323 handle 1323 sfq perturb 10
RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument
if I don''t put the "perturb 10" option, it works.
another question is about iptables, when I indicate the " --set-mark" option:
iptables -t
