relation b/w uplink and downlink rate control
Hello all,
I have browsed archives and real all available HOWTOs, but I still have a few doubts.
My set up is a router, as below.
LAN(100MB)-------------(eth1)Linux-Router(eth0)---------------WAN(2MB/512)
My aim is to cotrol both uplink and downlink bandwidth.
For uplink control, I will use HTB on WAN interface. For downlink, I plan to attach HTB on LAN interface(both egress/outgoing). No

Wondershaper 1.1a bandwidth speed test gives me uplink speed instead of downlink
I have been testing wondershaper 1.1a with htb.
DOWNLINK=2304
UPLINK=1024
DEV=wlan0
No other changes have been made, except to comment out the 2 lines to
allow the script to run.
When I do a speed test from sites like www.toast.net/performance, I only
get speeds equal to my UPLINK speed. I expected a speed closer to the
DOWNLINK. Am I missing something here?
TIA,

Multiple Uplink/Providor w/VPN?
Hello all,
Just wondering if it can be done? 2 site, 2 linux boxes (1 at each
side), each site has 2 internet connections. Can you create a VPN over
those connections to utilize both? It would seem like it would need 2
vpn''s (1 for each pair). Any info is appreciated.

Is it possible to control uplink in a NATted environment
Hi all,
Given below ia the simple network diagram. I need to control uplink for the
individual private network IPs as depicted in the diagram. Is this possible
in a NATed environment using CBQ or HTB. I learnt that we can control only
outgoing traffic. So if I control in the eth1 interface the source IP will
be masqueraded, and it may not result in the desired behaviour.
Is there a solution to

uplink with multiple lines
I''ve been trying - without success - to aggregate the bandwidth of 3 DSL modems
using the instructions in the HowTo (sections 4.2.1 and 4.2.2).
I _believe_ I''m following the instructions to the letter, but when I add the last command (the "ip route" with "nexthop") then nothing goes out through the modems.
Each modem works when I add a single default gateway

Problem with third link in multiple uplink configuration
Hello!
I have access server with 4 uplinks (nice, huh?). I ran RedHat 7.3.
Yesterday I did an upgrade to RedHat 9.
After upgrade Linux says the third link is bad:

4.4.4.0/30 dev eth4 scope link src 4.4.4.4
3.3.3.0/29 dev eth3 scope link src 3.3.3.3
1.1.1.0/28 dev eth1 scope link src 1.1.1.1

How to add uplink in ESXi virtual switch
Hi,
I have an ESXi server, on top of it I have created one VM whose IP address
is 192.168.79.1.
I want to connect to the VM on ESXi server from my host machine but I am
not able to do it.
I have created a network "networkforSC" and I have pasted my xml file
content below but I am not able to add any uplink (how to add it?) .
Below is the xml file of my node as well as the network which

Uplink shapping
Hi everyone,
I''m controling the uplink traffic bandwidth between two ethernet linux
computers, but it seems like even the download bandwidth gets limited
then i''ve got trouble on that because my intention is shaping the
conection on an asymetric way (ADSL). Lately, I''m going crazy, this
problem has got me pretty worried and i''m not figuring out at all, the

routing ssh to secondary uplink
Hello,
I''m following this HOWTO
http://linux-ip.net/html/adv-multi-internet.html to route outgoing SSH
from a secondary ISP. I can see using tcpdump, jnettop, iftop that when
one of the computers located in my internal network is trying to SSH to
a box online using SSH, packets are routed via the secondary internet
ethernet card. However, packets don''t seem to know how to get back.

routing via uplink based on source lan?
I''ve got a rather complex beast of a network that I''ve beeing trying to get
properly routed for some time now. I''ve come really close, in that inbound
traffic gets where it''s supposed to, and outbound traffic goes where it''s
supposed to, but outbound packets are all apparently going over the wrong
link.
The system is currently configured as a

Shaping per IP in PPPoE borrowing or sharing Uplink or Downlink
helo again. I think this question i am asking is worth:
we know that pppoe-server creates a pppX device on each connection done
to it.
So, when i have to shape, i have to shape each pppX connection device on
itself alone.
What i know is that the borrowing method on one device by itself, e.g.
ppp0, alone using HTB or the like. this means that i have to create for
another device, e.g. ppp1,

uplink call quality issues
Hi
Can someone please help with the following,
We are using asterisk@home 1.5 and SIP trunks to communicate to the PSTN
network. We are having some problems with the call quality.
Although we can hear the other person's voice quite clear when making or
receiving a call, we get complaints from the people on the other end saying
that our voices sound very unclear, low and
that the voice

Multiple uplink problems
I''ve installed Shorewall 3.0.5 on a Debian Sarge box, and I''m
attempting to route internet traffic through a couple of ISPs, and I''ve
come up against some problems.
The first is that one of my links is a pppoe connection to a wireless
modem, and I can''t configure it to have a static IP address...
therefore I can''t see how I can set up the two

Setting an alias as the "default" IP address, or something similar?
Hello,
Ive had a poke around through various linux routing documents,
but haven''t found what I think is an elegant solution to a
routing issue I''m having with a hosting provider and RHEL ES 4 running
in a VMware VM.
Here''s a diagram of the situation :

Routing for multiple uplinks and SNAT to 2 source IPs
Hi,
I configured a router box to use 2 providers, as described
in the HOWTO. (Apendix 1)
I want to use both links to reach a single smtp server. As I read
in the kptd and in some old messages of this list, doing a SNAT
in the postrouting chain comes _after_ the routing desision.
So I guess the following lines I''m trying to use are wrong.
(See Apendix 1)
What can I do to have multiple

routing for multiple uplinks + DNAT (LVS in my case)
Hi.
Contents:
1) Introduction
2) 2 Questions
* Introduction:
I used this HOWTO to use multiple providers.
http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html
The box is a load balancer, using the Linux Virtual Server.
We have a problem with lost connections, and it seems you
get issues when you combine this setup with DNAT [1].
The proposed solution [1] is to use these rules to mark

Multiple uplinks through single ethernet
Next week I''m replacing my single SDSL connection with two ADSL connections.
I''ve got a plan for dealing with this, but I''d like any thoughts on
potential problems I might run into.
My goal is not to load balance the bandwidth (yet), but I do want to run all
traffic through a single router. At the moment this router only has one
ethernet port for both of the ADSL
