Multicast routing
Hello list,
Not sure if I am asking the question in the correct list. I am a
newbie trying
to get multicast routing to work on my linux 2.4 kernel. I am using
usc pimd code. I have pimd which sets up the route in the kernel
[ /tmp]# ip mroute show
(22.22.22.1, 224.0.1.20) Iif: eth2 Oifs: eth1
[ /tmp]#
I can see data packets arriving on eth2
[/tmp]# tethereal -i eth2

masc and multicast
I am trying to set up my Shorewall box to forward multicast packets to
my local net. I do have some problems with mrouted (see below), but I
can join and add routes using smcroute. Multicast works when shorewall
is disabled. I got a lot of help from the following.

I cannot get the multicast packets to pass the fw when

Re: Routing inside box, is it posible ?
For anyone to answer that clearly, we''d need a bit
more information.
Firstly, what is connected to router1 and router2? In
other words, does the router box you want to use have
enough ports (and of the right type) to actually
handle all of the connections?
Secondly, can we assume that you have enough access to
the box you want to use to be able to install the
software and configure it?

multicast over GRE tunnel
I need to send multicast traffic through a GRE tunnel between two Linux
routers. The tunnel works for normal IP packets, but I can''t see how to
make it work for multicast. Here''s the setup:

Switch mode three-node routing problem
Dear tinc community,
I am using tinc in switch mode. I have three nodes. Two nodes reside on
routers, vpn-eth is bridged with internal lan, each router has several
machines connected to it's internal lan. Third node is the roadwarrior -
"endpoint" linux PC.
When the roadwarrior is off - everything works perfectly, machines on both
sides can communicate without a problem in any

Serious cross-subnet browsing question
I've been having troubles getting cross subnet browsing working in
existance with a WinNT domain master (hey, it's not my machine).
Basically what is happening is that I am trying to setup a VPN (which
shouldn't complicate things) that browsing will work across. The idea is
this:
There is an office in my local city that I'm connecting San Francisco to
via VPN. The TCP/IP part is

RIF: Routing problem
Thanks Jose,
I found the key in the routing table of Router2; it had bad entries for the farest subnets (didn't have the 'via' commands...).
Thanks for helping me.
Now I'm gonna configure the network with IPv6 'cause I have to make it work with Mobile IPv6.
Anybody working on these funny things can mail me, so we can suffer togheter! :-)
Bye,
Mauro

[OT] Routing statements
So this is a little off topic but this list is so helpful!!
Is this the correct way to split our /24 block up? Tom suggested
something like this in an earlier post but that did not work either. So
what should I change to make this work?

I need a /28 on the Shorewall side of things and the rest on the LAN

[HELP] Proxy ARP & OSPF
Hi,
The network topo looks like this:
the original network:
router1 router2

the target network: (we need to insert a transparent firewall between
these 2 routers, so a proxy arp is set up on firewall to bridge
router1 and router2)

conntrack-tools and Session syncing
Hi folks,
I have 2 firewalls, setup with Centos 5.2. They are also routers, connected
to 2 upstream routers.
I have some cases where connections from servers to the internet leave my
network via router2 and answers come back via router1. So I added conntrack
tools to both routers/firewalls to synchronize the session tables (using
ftfw procotol).
That works as expected. If e.g. I ping from

RE: building a multicast router: RESOLUTION
well, once i figured out what to do it was easy.
1) install freebsd over linux.
2) recompile kernel with: option MROUTING
3) start mrouted
4) go get yourself a cold beer. you deserve it!
thanks!

Hi
I set-up a gre tunnel between two linux boxes.
A short diagram is like this
lan1 -> router1 ----- router2 <- lan2
The tunnel works fine, i can ping from lan1 to lan2 but the problem is the speed between lan1 and lan2 is lower than it supposed to be
If i log in to router1 and transfer something from router2 or lan2 it is working at maximum speed, 1024kbits/s. The problem is if i log in

building a multicast router
Hi,
I have been reading: http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.multicast.html in effort
to understand how to route multicast traffic and just joined the group.
History: I am trying to multicast mpeg (using the videolan server) on a
private network. The server side of the network is copper gigabit, which
connects to one of those cheap fast Ethernet switches with a single gigabit
uplink. The problem
