Wondershaper - question
Hi,
I have a question conercing wondershaper. I''m using the Clarkconnect linux
distribution for my linux router and I tried to use wondershaper.
On start up of wshaper, there are no errors or any other problems but I''m
not sure if it''s running correctly. Only one qdisc / one class is used and
when I start an uplink ftp transfer, my ping time is growing up to 1700ms -

se.contrast ....too hard??? .... Too easy????? .....too trivial???? ...... Too boring.....too????????
Hi all,
Regular and avid readers of this column will know that Don Driscoll and
I have recently posted two messages requesting assistance concerning an
apparent failure of "se.contrast" to produce an se for a contrast. So
far, an ominous silence rings in our ears, but read on Gentle Reader,
and see if even the machinations of "debug" doesn't stimulate you to

*** Yet another boring weekend? Test new Asterisk features in development!
In Sweden, where I live, it's snowing like crazy. The Stockholm area
is covered in white stuff
and there's really no reason to leave the computer and get out
anywhere. More white stuff
is coming down all the time. Boring. I am sure your weekend is no
better - rain, snow or
just another boring sunny day.
Let's find something cool to do during this weekend!

Boring but useful VP3/QT patches
I think I'll start with the simple stuff, just to be safe. :-)
Here are some cvsignore updates, and a fix for the inter-project dependencies in the MSVC *.dsw file.
Cheers,
Eric

how flexible is ingress traffic policing to bandwidth limit?
[I sent this earlier but I guess the list is subscriber-only?]
I just set up wondershaper, it has a simple filter on the downstream
direction to limit the bandwidth usage:
tc qdisc add dev $DEV handle ffff: ingress
tc filter add dev $DEV parent ffff: protocol ip prio 50 u32 match ip src \
0.0.0.0/0 police rate ${DOWNLINK}kbit burst 10k drop flowid :1
This is effective but is there any way to

with this configuration:

lan
lan is on eth1 and on eth0 I''ve the dsl connection (1.2 Mbit / 256 kbit)
I need to limit the bandwith towards lan and I''ve thought at HTB and
tcng. I write the script belove. I want limit the p2p and ftp (ssh and

cannot see the samba server when browsing
I would like to know if there is a rule that can be created in iptables that would allow a samba server shares to be seen on the internal LAN. The interface is on eth0 the ip address of eth0 is 192.168.0.1. It seems that when I applied a firewall I have blocked smb from showing up. Now the users cannot see any shares via Network Neighborhood , but I can map a drive via

" CBQ is not always as accurate as it should be. See docum.org on the
test page for some tests with bounded classes. The algorithm used by cbq
is very "link sensitive". It calculates the link idle time and for that
it needs the real link bandwidth, average

Confuse, putting packets in wrong mangle table.
Folks,
I am a little bit confuse in how to put these packets into correct mangle
table for traffic shaping.
This is what i ve planned to do:
- - - - :eth0 [ LINUX-BOX ] eth1: - - - -
Let say:
eth0: 220.100.1.1
eth1: 192.168.1.1
eth1:1 192.168.1.2
192.168.1.0/24 get natted into 220.100.1.1 before reaching the internet.
I put every packets coming from internet (eth0) this way:
# iptables -t

Suggestions for a new shaper
Guys
Reading through my lartc mail, and thinking on how to tackle my next
shaping solution, gave me an idea. I''d like to propose this idea for
scrutiny and if it sounds viable I''ll definitely need to start
developing in due time.
For me in my day to day work with developing network application
specifically geared for middle-tier ISP''s, and reading on other

wondershaper....
Hi,
I am new to the Linux Advance Routing Project and to Policy Based
Routing as implemented in Linux.... but I have been using Linux for 10
years so not _really_ a newbie.... Looking at the lartc.org website I came
across the reference implementation of a traffic shaper...
I also have Matt Marsh''s book on ''Policy Based Routing using Linux''
which covers traffic

QoS on a bridge+NAT
I have a setup where I have three NIC in a Debian box. I have eth1
conected to internet and eth0 NAT''ed to 192.168.1.1. eth1 and eth2 are
bridged together, given ip 192.168.122.2.
What I want to achieve is to perform traffic shaping on the bridge as
well as prioritizing the traffic from eth0 very low. (This is from
trental flat ...) However it seems that I am unable to perform thhe

Netbios name resolution with DHCP

Smoothwall is the DHCP server.
Why would it be that all the Windows machines can ping to a netbios name, eg
ping server, ping Linuxbox

Strategy for penalising IPs with too many simultaneous sessions
Hi all,
I have been trying to investigate traffic shaping in an effort to solve
the "unfriendly network apps" problem on a test network.
I have a basis by which I''d like to shape traffic, but studying the
howto doesn''t uncover and existing qdisc that seems to fit what I would
like to do.
The problem I would like to address is to prevent an IP address opening

ipp2p problems
Hi all,
I have found problems in p2p traffic detection. The ipp2p module works
fine but in shorewall the rules written for this protocols never match
because the initials p2p connection (login) match in ''-m state --state
RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT'' rule before ''-m ipp2p --ipp2p -j DROP''
rule, so netfilter never filter p2p traffic. I have had to run

Packet marking for ingress shapping and NET
Hi,
I have typical situation, local LAN with private addresses, translated
via NAT to internet. I need to shape ingress traffic (from internet to
local LAN) in several HTB queues accorting to destination (private not
public) IP. So I need mark packets to divide them to corresponding
queue. According to http://www.docum.org/stef.coene/qos/kptd/ I thing I
have only one way how to do it, because

Can i attach another qdisc under classes or root qdisc?
now, i''m learning and try to read a lot of article about tc command in linux for setting traffic shaper.
but i''m doubt about
In the theory about tc command ... In general, we define class under root qdisc
but Is it can be possible ???? If we define another qdisc under root qdisc, Can i do it?
because i have just read tc command syntax and i found this point ...
syntax: tc qdisc
