Gamest and QoS
Hi I share my bandwith (adsl 512/128) between 12 users. I set up simple qos script for incoming (IMQ) and outgoing traffic using htb in root, 4 classess and esfq qdisc at leafs. Interactive traffic goeas to class1 , http, mail etc. to class2, p2p, ftp to class3, and rest to class4. Classess divide link in proportion 20% (prio 1), 40% (prio 2), 20% (prio 3) ,20% (prio 4) This works

Shaping incoming traffic on the other interface
Hi, I have a typical configuration for my firewall/gateway box: single network card, with a pppoe connection to the DSL modem. I''m already successfully shaping the uplink (how come that the wondershaper.htb doesn''t use the ceil parameter? It should implement bandwidth borrowing!) but i found the ingress policy a little bit rough. I''d like to keep the traffic categories

Strategy for penalising IPs with too many simultaneous sessions
Hi all, I have been trying to investigate traffic shaping in an effort to solve the "unfriendly network apps" problem on a test network. I have a basis by which I''d like to shape traffic, but studying the howto doesn''t uncover and existing qdisc that seems to fit what I would like to do. The problem I would like to address is to prevent an IP address opening 10

Packet marking for ingress shapping and NET
Hi, I have typical situation, local LAN with private addresses, translated via NAT to internet. I need to shape ingress traffic (from internet to local LAN) in several HTB queues accorting to destination (private not public) IP. So I need mark packets to divide them to corresponding queue. According to http://www.docum.org/stef.coene/qos/kptd/ I thing I have only one way how to do it, because

TCP window based shaping
Does anyone have any pointers on how other people have implemented tcp window adjustment to do bandwidth shaping? Granted the basic idea is to set the window size to be RTT * bandwidth, but a quick squiz at google turns up mostly papers on how to implement this at the sender end with a view to some new magic TCP implementation. I''m really interested in notes on how to implement at

HTB and bittorrent, won''t work
Hello, I''ve been trying to shape the bittorrent traffic (on my external interface, upload), but without luck, for this I''m using layer7 filter right now, but I''ve also tried ipp2p, with the same results, I might say that this is not a problem with this packet classifiers, the problem is with HTB, here''s why. When I open azureus (the bittorrent client I

limiting bandwidth on a sequence of ports.
Hello. I have just started using iproute2 commands, and I am having a go at making bittorrent use the same bandwidth for upload as for download. I am stuck I think in understanding speeds I connect to the internet through a router modem which gets the real IP and assigns me a private ip through dhcp. So this router can handle a private network, and route it to the internet, pressumably with nat.

Traffic shaping questions and possible extensions
Hi, It has been quite a while since I looked at what was happening in Linux traffic shaping, so I am not sure if this has been discussed / improved on since I last looked. We use a traffic shaper based on HTB. The basic principals work fine, but we have a problem with ''intermittent trafic'' like http and interactive ssh sessions. Each of these categories of traffic have

How to fight with encrypted p2p
Hi I believe that whole question is in topic. Is there any way to recognize ( and then shape ) p2p traffic which is encrypted? Modern p2p clients have this ability moreover some of them have this enabled by default. Now I''m using ipp2p for iptables but as I know this doesn''t recognize encrypted traffic. Thanks in advance. RV: LATENCY PROBLEMS
Hello there, I''m having lots of problems with my setup here. Let me explain: I am network administrator for my university dorm. We are about 300 users, and we have 2 ADSL connections doing load balancing with 300kbits upstream and 2Mbit downstream. The load balancing is working great, we are doing connection tracking so I can mark and hence prioritize interactive traffic and ACKS

imq or ingress+htb?
Todays quick question: Ive had problems with imq and getting my setup to work as planned. Im thinking that a better solution for shaping incoming traffic would be to put a little limit in the outer interface of the router box with ingress, and the shape traffic on the inner interface with htb. Would that be better than using imq? -- Patrick Petersen <lartc@schmakk.dk>

Blocking p2p traffic
Greetings, I''ve searched, found ftwall, and some other commercial solutions, but am wondering if anyone on this list has any solutions using a linux firewall to block p2p traffic, more specifically Kazaa. Traffic Shaping with Shorewall
Does anyone here implement traffic shaping with shorewall? I need to shape BitTorrent traffic on my network so that upload/downloads do not overwhelm normal function or, even more importantly, my imminent conversion to VOIP for all telephone service. I followed the shorewall documentation guide but am not sure if what I have done is the Right Way Of Doing Things. Nor am I satsified with the

Help with traffic control (HTB ESFQ RED)
Hello, there''s a problem I''ve had for several months now, and I''ve never been able to find an answer to it. I''ll try to explain as quick as possible: I have a server that controlls my home network, it provides internet to them also (NAT) and I would like to provide QoS by shaping traffic. I have a p2p server here (running mldonkey), since only that

Bandwith thinking error
Hi, I found that I had some thinking error with the wshaper script. I assigned the bandwith of my DSL connection to it, but the machine where it runs is normally connected to the LAN with 100Mbit behind a separate Hardware-Router.Obviously, the complete connection of the machine was slowed down to 384k because I told it so.I guess, since wshaper takes only one card as argument, I can''t
