symbolic links seemingly not browseable
Hi all, I'm sure this is a quick fix, but I've not found the answer yet. On a fresh install of CentOS5, I need to use an alternate port for ftp. Currently vsftpd wants the standard port which is in use by another system on my NATted network. So...how does one go about reconfiguring vsftpd to do this? I've looked in /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf to no avail. In my Slackware days,

vsftp 500 OOPS: SSL: cannot load RSA key
vsftpd-2.0.1-5 I am trying to get vsftpd to start with ssl_enabled=yes and not having much success. The config file works when ssl_enabled=No and does not work when ssl_enabled=Yes. I have tried setting the following: rsa_cert_file=/usr/share/ssl/certs/inet06cert.pem which is the public certificate and this: rsa_cert_file=/usr/share/ssl/private/inet06key.pem which is the server private

new CentOS 5 as DNS server
Hi folks, As a breather from the "thread-now-wider-than-my-headers-window-in-thunderbird" conversation re: mixing repos, I have a question regarding a machine I'm about to put online. :) I run a web hosting company and my secondary (primary to the world) DNS box died from a massive rootkit/hack last night. It was running an old Slackware 9.1 installation and I will be completely

HI folks, Apologies if this is OT. If it is, please msg me offllist and I'll carry on my searching elsewhere. Where does mysql actually store databases and tables in the filesystem? Thanks in advance -Ray

slightly OT - gphpedit on CentOS 5?
Hi all, Advance apologies for being slightly OT. Has anyone had successes with installing gphpedit on CentOS 5? There don't seem to be any rpms avail for our distro and I'm far too new to roll my own. Thanks in advance (off - list replies are welcome if that's more appropriate) -Ray

vsftpd failing since upgrade to 4.2
My vsftpd was working. I use it configured via xinetd and turn it off (disabled = yes) when I'm not using it to keep the bad guys from hammering on it. Recently I upgraded to 4.2 (via yum update). That' the only change I know of on the system. And I didn't have any problems with it. Today when I try to ftp, i enabled it in xinetd.d (with disable = no and a "service

logwatch not mailing
Hi, # uname -a Linux obfuscated.example.com 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5 #1 SMP Tue Aug 4 20:23:34 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I noticed a few days ago that I'm not getting my logwatch emails to the root account any longer, and while I've definitely been applying updates from base, no other changes have happened on this box. I ran logwatch at the command line: logwatch --detail medium

Vsftpd/Centos Issue: Client Time Display Wrong
Hi, We have patched Centos 4.4 to work properly with the recent DST changes, but our customers are reporting wrong FTP client timestamps based on which areas they live in. What are the two main mechanisms in Centos that control time? I know about /etc/localtime and TZDATA, is there something we may have missed? Or is this perhaps a VSFTPd thing and I could go bug that list? To be clear,

iptables question
Hi all, With SELinux in permissive mode and iptables running, I'm unable to retrieve directory listings with ftp. stop iptables, and all appears again. This seems to be unrelated to passive/port modes for ftp client. If this is off topic, please let me know offlist and I'll take my question elsewhere. Otherwise I'll repost with output of # iptables status TIA, ~Ray

oops
I just sent a bug report about "mailx" being the default mailer, before I looked at bug.report() carefully and saw that it checked "/usr/ucb/mail", and "Mail" as well as "mailx". I guess I had had the problem with this in a previous version. Would it be clearer to have .Options$mailer be a vector or list of alternate mailers that were checked in turn,

As this remains an issue for me, I'm reposting. Please forgive the redundancy, but I've been unable to find the answer and am hoping for some guidance. rsync question
Hi folks, I've been trying to wrap my head around this for a bit, done my googling and archive searching but I still can't seem to 'get' it. Here goes: I've a spare drive in my CentOS5.1 box, which (for testing now) I mount manually under /mnt/backup I want to backup the /home tree to that box nightly via rsync (cronjob), so I tried this: rsync -avrogz /home/

FTPS setup problem
Hi! I'm trying to figure out what's going wrong with a "simple" FTPS setup and VSFTPD. I saw references on Google and tried, and tried, and tried... without success. I'll start by explaining my situation: I have a WEB development server behind a firewall. It's currently only for the intranet. We now have an external company that will have to do a new website

disk space issues...any help is greatly appreciated
Hi all, Please pardon my newbie-ness on this issue....I've a / partition which is full (quite suddenly, actually) and I'm not sure how to fix this. I've searched for uneeded logs, etc in /var/log and /tmp to no avail. The system is CentOS 5.2 and is not connected to the internet, serves as a local LAN server running stock stuff...sendmail, dovecot, apache..nothing strange or
