FTP Migration
Hi All,
Please feel free to correct any misconceptions in my premises as I get to my
question. I have about 6 ftp services running on a CentOS system that is going
down for service, and I want to move the ftp services to a VM on another
network. These are all running on Proftpd, with fairly complicated
directory/permissions/rate control layouts, as proftpd nicely supports.
First, it appears

vsftpd failing since upgrade to 4.2
My vsftpd was working. I use it configured via xinetd and turn it off
(disabled = yes) when I'm not using it to keep the bad guys from hammering
on it.
Recently I upgraded to 4.2 (via yum update). That' the only change I know
of on the system. And I didn't have any problems with it.
Today when I try to ftp, i enabled it in xinetd.d (with disable = no and a

OT: ProFTPD web browser login
I'm setting up a ftp server. I need to be able to have people have a
non interactive login through a web browser into a chrooted directory
i.e. ftp://somewhere.com. I also need to have a URL that will auto login
a user to a chrooted directory. These chrooted directories will be RO
for all anonymous access. That said I also need to have a staff account
that has upload rights to these

Definitive guide to setting up FTPIS on vsftpd
Followup:
I gave up on the Implicit and configured vsftpd for Explicit, that revealed some configuration errors (displayed on the client, Filezilla in my case). I then corrected these errors and switched back to Implicit and all is well.

[LLVMdev] Recharging the batteries
Hi,
I've noticed that http://llvm.org/status/ hasn't been updated for a while,
so
I tought that some of you might find the following information interesting
and/or encouraging...
For benchmarking the stuff I'm working on I needed to compile a number
of open-source packages. The settings I used:
AS=llvm-as
lLD=llvm-ld
AR=llvm-ar
CXX=llvm-g++
CC=llvm-gcc

ftp daemon problem
New install of CentOS 4.1; our first try at the 4.x.
On previous 3.x installs we've used proftpd.
On this one we're using (trying to use is a better statement of what
we're going through) the default daemon, /usr/sbin/vsftpd.
But we don't get anywhere.

FTPS setup problem
Hi!
I'm trying to figure out what's going wrong with a "simple" FTPS setup
and VSFTPD.
I saw references on Google and tried, and tried, and tried... without
success.
I'll start by explaining my situation: I have a WEB development server
behind a firewall. It's currently only for the intranet. We now have
an external company that will have to do a new website

OT: Polycom BootRom 3.1.3 and vsftpd 2.0.3 WARNING!!!
Hello everyone,
Please forgive the exclamation points but I have been battling this one
off and on for about four days now. Sorry for the cross post.
It all started with a box of IP 501s. I contacted my reseller and
obtained the latest BootRom and SIP firmware. Unzipped, configured,
copied over to my FTP server (running AstLinux, of course). The phone
booted, so far so good. Updated

Bug#443886: /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/proftpd: [proftpd] Refused user $USER for service $FOO
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.2.61
Severity: wishlist
File: /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/proftpd
Two weeks ago, I got a rush of these:
Sep 8 12:37:07 goretex proftpd: PAM-listfile: Refused user news for service proftpd
(Apparently, fail2ban managed to miss those.)
This is triggered by pam_listfile, which is used by proftpd (and other
FTP daemons) to block users listed in

So pretty sure one of my boxes has been owned. Just wanted some advise
on what to do next. Obviously, i'll need to nuke the fecker and start
over but it would be really nice to find out how they got in as its a
CentOS 4.3 which is bang up to date.
So i found:

files to a second server (again Centos V4.x) and have setup the same user on
the second server but the user does not get chrooted to the home directory
but is placed in /var/ftp/pub and cannot upload file.

vsftpd log issues
I have an up-to-date CentOS 6 with reasonable amount of ftp activity (a
dozen of network cameras uploading images every second 24x7).
The first issue was that the whole /var filesystem was about to get full,
because of huge ftp daemon log.
vsftpd.conf says:
# You may override where the log file goes if you like. The default is shown
# below.
xferlog_file=/var/log/vsftpd.log
