How to configure PAM in Centos 5 64-bit?
I'm new the the PAM world and have CentOS 5 64-bit installed on a system. I want to tweak some of the system-auth module settings, but the top of the file says anything configured in that file will get overwritten, as it is autogenerated by authconfig. I checked out authconfig, and it doesn't seem clear to me how to make the changes I need via authconfig. So, where do I need to look?

God help me I know I said let it die, but it was continued elsewhere also. I'll try to keep this forest fire in ONE location. OFF-TOPIC: Job opportunity in Augusta Georgia
WAY Off topic here, but if anyone's in the Augusta, Georgia area and wants to work as a web developer(css, html, flash, php, photoshop and the other usual goodies), we've got a job opening. If you like abuse, long hours, low pay, and lots of stress, we have the perfect job for you. -- During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act. George Orwell

smartd and 3ware 9xxx configs
I'm looking to do a bit more monitoring of my 3ware 9550 with smartd, and wanted to see what others were doing with smart for monitoring 3ware hardware. Do you have the smartd.conf configured to test, or simply monitor health status? Are you monitoring the drive as centos sees it (/dev/sdX) or are you using the 3ware /dev/twaX for monitoring? Opinions and discussions are welcome :-P --

4.92 beta update to centos5 proper words of caution
For those of you who are going to do the update from the centos5 beta to centos 5 proper despite the warnings, this is a(n incomplete) list of instructions for how to accomplish this 1. Get yourself into runlevel 3 (telinit 3 from terminal) as the dbus update will die if you're in X. 2. Setenforce 0 # turn off selinux as there have been some unconfirmed reports that it will interfere with the

CentOS 5 gotchas
As some folks on irc have pointed out, and has been covered a bit in the beta discussions: There is no longer a 'Minimal' install option for centos5 in anaconda, however if you choose 'Customize Now' and uncheck all the selections, you will get a minimal install that only requires disk1, and weighs in at around 594MB. With kickstart it is possible to further reduce the package

Well, I wasn't a member of this list until today
But I guess with Akemi dragging me out over the OS_Protection page, I'm a member now :-P I've got no problem discussing it or other changes here. I set it up on my blog mostly because there wasn't a way to have comments on the page, and I didn't want to open the wiki page up to editing by outside sources right away. -- During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes

OT: Content system preferences, KnowledgeTree vs Alfresco
We're in the market for a new content system at work. Right now it's between KnowledgeTree and alfresco. Mostly we're looking for something with the ability to upload, tag with various meta-data, and share among various other systems via webdav, cifs, etc. Does anyone have any personal preferences or experiences with these two products? -- During times of universal deceit, telling

CentOS4 pam_tally2 config
Okay, it's been a while since I've messed with EL4, and apparently I've gone stupid with respect to pam and properly enabling pam_tally2 in an appropriate fashion. My notes are for EL5, so if someone would be so kind as to smack me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. -- During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act. GPL java
For the people who are currently interested in java as it relates to centos now that Sun has GPL'd java there are some things to be aware of. The folks at jpackage.org are pretty much all over this development but it's not the bright shiny news everyone has made it out to be. Sun did a very good thing by moving java under the GPL, and they should be commended for FINALLY seeing the light

Every case is different, but yes, as I said - I would like to take a closer look at the problem again, it might be the case that we don't need this complexity in this particular case, but want to double check. But yeah, in general I agree with you! On Thu, May 9, 2019 at 6:09 PM Jake Ehrlich <jakehehrlich at google.com> wrote: > I think that pretty much hits the nail on the head.

Problem with 2.6.11.4 kernel and e1000 driver -Correction
1) I'm actually not building a custom kernel per se, just one from the standard 2.6.11.4 with our configuration. I may be adding a custom driver, but unless I can get the standard kernel to boot,... 2) I have been told that after 2.6.11.4, support for the Infiniband driver is dropped, and we need that. If this is not the case, I would be delighted to know that and proceed accordingly.

Unattended install of CentOS in a VM with given login/password?
Is there a way to make CentOS install unattended, right from the boot until I can SSH into it?. I'd like being able to boot a new Virtualbox virtual machine right from the CentOS ISO, and then from the Virtualbox host, ssh into the brand new VM client and customize it using SSH shell scripts (SU, yum install, etc). Is there any way to tweak the ISO to specify "unattended install"

Extracting the window (titlebar) name from a bash script?
Surely there' s a way to obtain the "window name" -which appears on the Window Manager' s Titlebar- for running processes, right?. Well, I can't find it... I mean, the names that appear below each icon when you alt-tab to switch an app to the foreground. Is there a simple way to obtain that data along with matching PIDs, from a Bash script? any built-in tools that provide

[lld][ELF] Add option to make .dynamic read only
The motivation is not only memory savings but also security: can-never-be-written is strictly better than RELRO in all cases. The biggest win is when .dynamic is the sole reason for having a writable segment at all. The distinction is fairly small for exploitability, but not negligible. LLD already has several command-line options that are not supported by or are different from ld or gold, so

Bluetooth Device Support
Hi, I want to create a virtual hci device on my virtual machine. I have seen that qemu has options supporting this https://qemu.weilnetz.de/doc/qemu-doc.html#Bluetooth_0028R_0029-options and https://qemu.weilnetz.de/doc/qemu-doc.html#pcsys_005fusb Is there any support for these options in libvirt? I was not able to find anything in documentation so I added the qemu command line xml as follows

That sounds great to me, thanks Jake. I'm not Jurgen either, of course, but I'm happy to assist you if he is unavailable. I'm not also not qualified to audit the license, but do note Apple formally also released some code at https://opensource.apple.com/tarballs/tapi/. If there's anything else I can do to help, let me know. Cheers, John On 04/10/2018 06:13 PM, Jake Ehrlich

changing /etc/dahdi/system.conf
At the top of my /etc/dahdi/system.conf file is this line: # Autogenerated by /usr/sbin/dahdi_genconf on Wed Feb 25 18:25:10 2009 -- do not hand edit OK, so how do I adjust the timing source and LBO numbers, and echo cancellers if I'm not supposed to edit this file?
