woriking under webrick but not under passenger
Hi!
I have just added login feature to my rails application (followed the
instruction from (Agile Web Development with Rails) but now I am getting
strange errors (looks to me like some kind of routing problem) under the
passenger/apache.
The error is:
500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was
unable to complete your request.
From the log:

Is IRB the ruby console ?
I''m running script/console but keep getting the message that irb.bat is not
recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch
file.
If it means anything I am running instant rails. I can invoke irb straight
forward.
TIA

Help with Access Control
Hi,
I am following the excellent tutorial http://www.railsforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=14216
(post 5) on how to implement an access control feature i.e. only a
friend is allowed to view a profile of a particular member. I am not
using the restful authentication plugin as the author is using to
implement the authentication feature (post 1) in the tutorial. All I
am interested in is the post 5

validates_confirmation_of not working?
I just can''t get validates_confirmation_of working for the life of
me!...
It''s not the first time I''m having problems with it but I just never
understand why!... This time I pretty much followed *exactly* the
example in Agile Rails Development and still...it just won''t work! I put
2 different passwords in the form and it doesn''t trigger an error,

to_model
There''s a number of calls in the Rails source to convert_to_model,
which takes an activerecord object instance:
convert_to_model(object)
Here''s the thing. All convert_to_model does is calls to_model, which
returns self (the ActiveModel instance).
Am I missing something here? Why call a method that returns the same
thing?

Problem implementing password and password confirmation
Hi,
I''m trying to implement password confirmation, based on the Agile
example, but just can''t make any progress.
User DB has these fields:
=========================
t.column :name, :string, :limit => 40
t.column :hashed_password, :string
t.column :salt, :string
User model has:

attr_accessor :password_confirmation

belongs_to causing NoMethodError exceptions ... ?
I''ve got a really strange problem using belongs_to. I apologize in
advance for the length... this is going to take a while to explain.
Basic idea: Creating a User requires that the user enter an email
address and activation key that matches an existing PendingUser.
After creating the user successfully, that pending user should be
marked as "used".
The problem:

How to hook into model attribute changes?
Hi,
What''s the best way to hook into any changes made to the value of a
single model attribute? I need to know when the encrypted_password
attribute on my User model changes i.e. when the user has changed their
password. I''m not interested in the actual changed value, I just need to
know when it''s been changed so that I can regenerate their API key as
well.
Thanks in

Puzzled about PAM support in OpenSSH-3.7.1p2
I'm trying to understand the code around PAM support in auth2.c and
auth2-chall.c. I'm working with the OpenSSH 3.7.1p2 sources on
FreeBSD 4.x. The scenario I'm trying to make work is SSH login to a
captive accout for users in a RADIUS database but whose login does not
appear in /etc/passwd or getpwnam().
I understand that if the username is not found in getpwnam(), then the

When adding a record in console, a parameter comes in as null even when I set it
In console, I am trying to create a User but the :account_id does not come
in. Console just gives me back :account_id => nil. Obviously I''m trying to
set it though. Silly console...
But, I can set the account_id column in my controller like so:
@user = User.new(params[:user])
@user.account_id = account.id
@user.save
Here''s what I give to the controller:
User.create :name

User Authentication
I''m trying to create a simple authentication system but am failing
miserably. I''m (sort of) following the "Logging In" chapter of the Agile
book. Ideally, any access to http://example.com/publish (and any of its
subdirectories) should redirect to http:/example.com/publish/login when
there is no valid session user_id.

NoMethodError in Unit Test - Rails Newcomer
I''m working on user authentication system to get familiar with rails,

Bug/feature: Slackware + openssh 2.1 does not work
Hello.
I've tried to install openssh to my Linux Slackware boxes, but it works
only for connecting to other hosts.
The bug is in the auth-passwd.c of pppd. Slackware has it's own (or just
an another) version of shadow package (if I've understood the
problem correctly) with it's own password encryption manner.
I do not use stuff like Kerberos, PAM etc.
As a result, the line

How bad is it to have 7 joins in my find_by_sql?
My question is whether there''s a more idiomatic rails way of
structuring this query or of redoing the underlying models. First,
the ugly find_by_sql code, which is the method to generate an atom feed:

Creating multiple objects from form data
I''m in the process of creating a sign up form for an online application.
The form collects account info, company info, and then info for an
administrative user.
The method looks like this:
def create
@account = Account.create!(params[:account])
@company = @account.companies.create!(params[:company])
@user = @company.users.create!(params[:user])
end
However, this inevitably fails
