DHH''s Post on Ruby Talk -- Rails 1.1.6: Stronger fix, backports, and full disclosure
The cat is out of the bag, so here''s the full disclosure edition of the current security vulnerability. With Rails 1.1.0 through 1.1.5 (minus the short-lived 1.1.3), you can trigger the evaluation of Ruby code through the URL because of a bug in the routing code of Rails. This means that you can essentially take down a Rails process by starting something like /script/profiler, as the code

cifs-utils 4.1 in Debian lenny backports
(this mail is crossposted to 4 mailing lists, some of which being subscribers-only. Please consider this when answering if you need to) Let's see this as my first achievement of SambaXP (http://www.sambaxp.org). An "official" backport of cifs-utils (http://www.samba.org/linux-cifs/cifs-utils/) is now available for users of Debian lenny. This package can be found on backports.org,

Backports of R 3.4.1 to Debian delayed
Dear all, I have bad RAM on the machine that I am using to create the backports, so I need to replace it. It took me a while to figure it out... While I was able to create the backport after several iterations with spurious segfaults, I will not upload it as I am not sure if it could be corrupted in some way. I hope to be able to upload a clean backport of R 3.4.1 during the rest of the week

Samba 4.4.3 debian wheezy backport intructions
Hi, Backported samba-4.4.3 from debian unstabel to debian wheezy today. May be of interest for others so i share the instructions and patches here. Ten packages from unstabel must be backported, I modified some to use python2.7 and removed dependencies to python2.6 and python3 (the later is not available in an recent enough version on wheezy/wheezy-backports). 1. rkward on Ubuntu heron with R2.8.0
I am running R on Ubuntu Heron. I recently updated to R 2.8.0 from the default (2.6) in the Ubuntu heron repository by adding deb http://cran.stat.sfu.ca/bin/linux/ubuntu hardy/ I updated all packages installed in /usr/lib/R/site-library and those in my home directory /home/duncan/R/i486-pc-linux-gnu-library/2.6 without obvious issues. I installed adehabitat and gpclib, which should be good

samba-ad-dc from debian backports fails to start with /usr/sbin/samba missing
Michael, Maybe I can answer why so few are seeing the NEWS entries you created.? I checked all my Debian systems, and only one has apt-listchanges installed.? The systems were all done via a netinstall .iso.? I don't recall installing apt-listchanges on the one system, but I must have somewhere in time.? So, for any other individuals who installed the OS as I did, there is no NEWS

Hallo Everyone, since some days a new dovecot version is available in Debian "wheezy-backports": (1:2.2.9-1~bpo70+1) wheezy-backports As described in http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib and http://www.dovecot.org/doc/NEWS-2.2 "xz"-compression is available since Dovecot version 2.2.9. Today I tried to convert my mailboxes with the new xz compression. Therfore I changed

Tilde expansion in ManageSieve for dovecot-1.1.
Greetings all, I'll skip the details of the setup, except to say that it has a non-standard (and non-templateable) home directory path for virtual users. Ran into the following problem when a debian (possibly from backports) packaged dovecot-1.1.2 was upgraded to a dovecot-1.1.13-2~bpo50+1 (definately from backports): sieve-storage: root directory specified by mail data does not exist:

[HowTo] Installing Samba and sssd on Debian Wheezy (with manual backport)
Hi everyone, A couple of weeks ago I wanted to install Samba and sssd on a Debian Wheezy server. The Samba version from the wheezy-backports repo looks and feels fairly well packaged by now and is updated to the upstream version, so in my opinion that's the way to go. As regards sssd, I wanted a version supporting the AD backend (the one in the Wheezy repos doesn't), so I backported it

2.2.2 -pre backports open
Fellows, the -pre branch for 2.2.2 is opened. If you have something to backport for trunk or fix in Testing, it's time to do so. If you are unsure, don't hesitate to ask me or on this list. I'd like to see 2.2.2 going out soon (~2 weeks max) Arnaud -- Linux / Unix Expert R&D - MGE Office Protection Systems - http://www.mgeops.com Network UPS Tools (NUT) Project Leader -

Updating samba version 4.17.5 to version 4.17.6 from Debian backports - armel architecture
I have several devices, mostly amd64 and armhf architectures, all of which updated samba to 4.17.6 without any problems. Change in the Debian backports archive on CRAN
Dear users of the Debian backports on CRAN, Because of an inconsistency of the README file with the actual situation on CRAN, which Ted Harding gratefully reported, I changed the archive on CRAN so the /etc/apt/sources.list entry has to be changed in case you would like to get updates of R backports to Debian stable in the future: Instead of deb
