RE: the "cisco vs. Linux" thread
FYI this topic has been covered on the Zebra and Quagga lists - hardware processors, memory, NICs, etc - software OS (Linux, *BSD), drivers, etc I''ve been running a couple of Linux routers for about 2 years now, I''m using them as core routers so I bought a couple of rackmount "server" boxes with redundant PSUs and h/w RAID (1) for hotswap disks. I''m using

htb: class 10007 isn''t work conserving ?!
I''m getting the following error/warning at some point in my config script, and I''m not sure which class it is referring to. htb: class 10007 isn''t work conserving ?! I [think I] understand that htb is a non-work-conserving qdisc, and I [think I] have configured things so that every htb qdisc I instantiate limits the bandwidth, so I don''t understand why this

network scripts debian
Working at setting up some new firewalls with multi-path routing over 2 isps. Doing it with debian sarge. Problem is the normal network scripts use ifconfig and route. In my tests I did a simple setup script. Feel like I am reinventing the wheel :-) Is it OK to use the network scripts to setup the interface and then remove the routes ifconfig created and add any needed routes with ip

Problem with multiple N/W cards
Hi, I am trying to set up a linux box with 5 N/W cards of which one is 10/100/1000T and the others are 10/100T. I connected all the cards and turned on the machine. I wanted to force eth0 to be the 1000T cards but the cards get allotted eth0 to eth4 randomly. Is there some way wherein I can force my 1000T card to be eth0. Also I want to turn off auto negotation & flow control on the 1000T

tutorial for Julian Anastasov''s patches
I''m sure that I had found (and printed out ...) a really good tutorial that explain how to use Julian Anastasov''s routing patch, but I can''t seem to find it now. Any pointers? -- ****************************************************************** Glen W. Mabey Glen.Mabey@usu.edu http://mabeys.homelinux.com/glen/

Local Filesystem Access
Is it possible for processes on a glusterfs server to read and write to files that are exported, like with NFS. And if so how does this affect replication? Thanks.

D-Link DFE-580TX
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Has anyone here had any experience with D-Link's quad-port ethernet NIC, model DFE-580TX ? The people from Mikrotik says it can cause systemwide lockup, but from what I have been reading around, this board seem to work ok. This is the only quad-port NIC I have found with a reasonable price, so I'm seriously considering using it. Comments ?

TC Hashing Filters
Hey all, I had asked a question a little while ago about CPU usage being outrageous while using tc and a cbq qdisc. Ed was very kind and offered a few suggestions. One of these was to look at hashing. So after pounding away at it for about a week, I have a general understanding of how it works and have tried to implement it. Unfortunately, and quite obviously since I''m posting here, it

Minicom and Ncurses
Hi, I have to do some maintenance on a CentOS 7 proxy installed on a routerboard without a video card. The only way to access this machine directly is via Minicom and serial port. I'm using NetworkManager TUI (nmtui) to configure network interfaces, but Ncurses rendering in Minicom works in the sense that chickens fly and horses swim. What you get is a forest of question marks with a few

kernel assertion error
I''m running 2.6.7 + (julian''s multi-path patch) + IMQ (imq2+beta6) and I got the following on my console while doing some stress testing: KERNEL: assertion (tp->retrans_out == 0) failed at net/ipv4/tcp_input.c (1827) I don''t know what I would do to try to reproduce this condition; it only appeared once. tcp_input.c sounds deep enough to scare me off from looking

list archive anomaly
At the list archive page (http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/) there is an amazing message from the future: the year 2032 (q1). Not that I know anything about mailman, but someone might want to "maintain" that. -- ****************************************************************** Glen W. deep test with rspec?
All, Has anyone on this list tried to use DeepTest[1] with rspec? My initial attempts have failed so I would be really interested if someone has figured it out. Thanks. -Ben 1. http://www.somethingnimble.com/bliki/deep-test

Off-Topic: Travel Router and Firewall
This is off-topic and the only connection with CentOS is that the laptop will be running CentOS... I am looking for a travel router/firewall for a number of reasons: - Protect against outside attacks when outside the office/home not relying on whatever protection the laptop/tablet/phone offers. - Allow for fast transfer for data between devices without being limited by the bandwidth of the

gluster + synology
Hi, Does anyone have any experience of using Synology NAS servers as bricks in a gluster setup? The ops team at my work prefers Synology since that is what they are already using and some of the nice out-of-the-box admin features. From what I can tell Synology runs a custom linux flavor so it should be possible to compile gluster on it. Any first hand experience with it? Thanks, Ben

Netware CIFS nlm - linux samba
Dear Gurus, We're having bizarre problems/behaviour. Admittedly we have an unusual set-up: - users on linux desktops (RedHat/KDE) mounting files over SMB using samba-2.2.5-10 -client and -common rpms. - files are on a SAN, clustered behind 2 netware servers (6.5), wihch run the cifs.nlm (netware guy has gone home - can't tell you the version just now) Files are spontaneously

Problems running features with Textmate Cucumber bundle
I finally plunked down for the beta RSpec bundle and I''m working through the initial example. Although I''m a fairly experienced RSpec user, I''m stlll learning new tricks. Anyway, I''m going though the mastermind example, and everything is going well, except that I decided to also try out the Textmate bundle for Cucumber. I decided to use Ben Mabey''s

Autotest with rspec HTML output
Hey all, I was just wondering if any one has played around with getting autotest''s rspec integration working with rspec''s HTML output. I really like how in the rspec textmate bundle the context of the failing code is inlined with the failing spec along with the exact line highlighted and a link to the exact spot in reference. However, I rarely use this nice output since
