Reducing RAM requirement of sshd
Hi All,
I have ported OpenSSH on an embedded uClinux platform. My main concern is that sshd takes 1 MB if RAM while its in running state and for each incoming connection it eats up 1 mb ram again. I am looking for help in reducing RAM requirement for ssh daemon. Any comments ?
Thanks in advance,
Reema.

Performance difference with HTB patch in 2.4.14 and without patch in 2.4.20
Hi,
I am using linux 2.4.14 box for my bandwidth management.I patched the kernel for HTB support.I think HTB comes by default with 2.4.20.My doubt is
"Is there any performance difference between patched kernel i.e. 2.4.14 and unpatched kernel 2.4.20 with respect to bandwidth management ?"
Thanks in advance,
Aravind.

HTB is losing packets ?
Hello all,
I have using htb for last 10-12 months to manage the bandwidth share.
Until last month everything was ok, but now after a kernel upgrade (from
2.4.20 to 2.4.26 because a kernel bug that generate a oops) the Linux router
is droping packets. It is weird because the "tc -s class ls dev eth1" (in the
class I monitor) reports no packet drop, the "tc -s qdisc ls dev

htb errors, wrong patch?
I downloaded iproute2-2.4.7-now-ss010824.tar.gz and I did patched tc with
the htb3.6_tc.diff from htb3.6-020525.tgz and when I try to use a htb script
I get just errors. I did not patch the kernel, since I use kernel 2.4.21 and
I saw on - HTB Homepage that I need to patch it only if I run version 2.4.20
or earlier. Do also need the kernel patch ? Or maybe is something else
wrong?

linux bridging and htb.init / cbq.init
Hello,
I''am successful using a linux (2.4.20) bridge and the cbq.init_v0.7
script for traffic shaping. But I can only use the queuing discipline
tbf (LEAF=tbf). If I try use queuing discipline sfq or none then tc
applies the rules but no shaping occurs.
Is this problem a normal behavior when using bridging ?
I tried to use htb.init (using patched tc binary). It accepts
the rules but

Re: unknown qdisc ''htb'' ???
Hello,
Could you tell me how did you solve your problem?
I have exactly the same problem but with this configuration:
- linux 2.4.20 kernel, HTB option checked
- iproute2-2.4.7-now-ss010824.tar.gz installed, which is the latest version I found at ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/ip-routing/, except for "try" or "do not use" versions.
I guess I do not need patching iproute2 and

[htb] strange problems !?

I have strange problems with HTB and several hundred classes flat structure i.e.

|--100kbps
.... several hundred classes like this
Ceil is the same as rate. The machine get no more than 2-3% average cpu(2.4Ghz pentium).
What happens is that from time to time the traffic got "stalled".
I tried numerous things to solve

htb limiting trouble: no overlimit or dropped packets
Hi!
I''m trying to limit the uplink bandwidth using htb but no packets are
overlimit or dropped. :-(
My router config:

modules in QoS, iptables in use.
* tc binary from htb3.6-020525.tgz
* external interface eth0: Internet access, 512 kbit/s uplink speed
* internal interface eth1: internal LAN, 100 Mbit/s

ebtables and HTB bandwidth shaping - change frame or packet sizes
Hallo
I have recently implemented a Fedora core 2 Linux box with ebtables and HTB
for doing some traffic shaping
What I would like to know is if there are some way to change the packet or
frame sizes of the traffic that passes through this type of system. If I am
understand correctly this will also help with the bandwidth, maybe not on
throughput but definitely on continues throughput if the

Problems with HTB (ceil being overpassed)
We run a Hosting farm behind a bridge/iptables firewall setup running
Gentoo with kernel 2.4.20-gentoo-r6, connected to a dual 15Mbps
international internet pipe / , as this:

the users behind, but in our implementation there seems to be an

Large number of HTB classes
I am planning a setup with thousands of classes in a HTB qdisc, say from
1:1000 to 1:2000, each with a very small rate and a big ceil, for fair
sharing of a 45mbit link.
I suspect some problems could be lurking in there.
Anyone having good/bad experience with such number of classes?
Simon

Sluggish throughput with htb
All,
I have been using the following as a means of rate limiting access to the Internet via eth0 (which connects to my cable modem) and it was working great with my 2.4.20 kernel:
tc qdisc del dev eth0 root
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 1
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 486kbit ceil 486kbit
tc qdisc add dev eth0 parent 1:1 handle 10: sfq perturb 10

Does anyone have working scripts using HTB for QoS but IPtables for filtering? I want to learn how to put them together. Do the scripts working on Redhat?

I wan to share internet to these 12 PCs. But my traffic control is not

tc qdisc add dev eth1 root handle 1: htb default 30
tc class add dev eth1 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 25kbps ceil 48kbps
