How to maintain Form State between Postback ?
Hi all, I''ve trying to look for answers for my problem but so far couldn''t find one, hopefully you can tell me what to do. This problem is so ubiquitous to Web Development, pertaining the fact that the web is stateless, i.e. how to maintain form''s state between postback. Basically, I have a form with some validations run for some of the fields, whenever the user submit

Mac setup issue
I just installed an updated set of tools (ruby, rails, etc) under my home directory for my mac 10.4, since I did not want to disturb the pre-installed environment in case something in the system relies on that. The problem I have is that the rake command is still using the old stack rather than the new one, even though the new rake is there. I presume the ''rake'' command itself

newb trying to figure out ActiveRecord relationships
3 tables. item, brand, commercial item -------- id name brand_id name brand --------- id name commercial ---------- id item_id The idea is that a commercial will have one item. each item will have brand. and a brand may have zero to many items. I can''t figure out how to make the relationships for my models. Eventually, i''d like to be able to show a brand name from a

Newbie: Saving file from a URL into DB
Hi all, I''m just starting to learn RoR, and would like to ask a question. I know that we can ''upload'' file from local machine and save it to a database. Now, say I have a photo which I store in other website (for example Flickr). This photo obviously has a URL pointing to it, e.g. http://www.flickr.com/username/photoname.jpg. How can I ''save'' this

Sorting Data Frame Without Loop
Hello all! I am currently trying to sort a data frame in a particular way, but I am having some difficulties with this. Specifically I want to sort the below dataset in such a way that there is only one line per ProteinID and if there are multiple GeneID or GeneName entries for a single proteinID, that they be concatenated with a comma separating them. The way I have done it earlier worked fine

Retrieving sound files from DB as opposed to filesystem
Hello All, Probably a silly question, but we're wondering if people have had any experience and have data to demonstrate if the performance of the Asterisk system might suffer in terms of latency etc. if we're to have it retrieve sound files from a database using odbc as opposed to storing them locally on the filesystem. Note, these are not prompts...these are sound files that are being

rake db:schema:dump doesn't produce composite primary key instructions
Hey there, I''ve adjusted some of my many to many join tables recently to use a composite primary key based on the id''s in the two columns - instead of using a surrogate key. I just did a db:schema:dump, and it looks something like this: create_table "class_members", :id => false, :force => true do |t| t.integer "user_id", :default => 0,

xmlToDataFrame#Help!!!#follow-up
Dieter Menne pointed out that the (small) xml attachment didn't make it. Here is an in-line version (see end of message). Let's hope it works this time. I'm struggling with interpreting XML files created by ADODB as data.frames and I'm looking for advice. Note: This xlm contains a result set which comes from a rectangular data array. Rails 2.0.2 MySQL 'year' datatype missing from ActiveRecord?
Hi all, This is my first post to the forum, and I''ll point out right away that I''m a noob to everything, Ruby, Rails, MySQL, etc., so I expect that I''m wrong here, but is the ''year'' datatype missing from ActiveRecord in 2.0.2? According to my MySQL 5.0 reference manual, ''year'' is a datatype, but when I try to run a migration that has

Memory address of character datatype
Hi, ? To get the memory address of where the value of variable "x" (of datatype "numeric") is stored one does the following in R (in 32 bit): ? ??? ? library(pryr) ? ?? ?x <- 1024 ?? ?? addr <- as.numeric(address(x)) +?24?? ?# 24 is needed to jump the variable info and point to the data itself (i.e. 1024) ? The question now is what is the value of the jump?so that one

Convert dataframe to array of records
I would like to convert a dataframe to an array of lists, one for every record. A natural choide is apply as.list to the rows. However, as it seems, as.list() automatically converts all list elements to the same datatype. Eg: myData <- data.frame(a="foo",b=as.logical(rbinom(10,1,.5))); apply(myData,1,as.list); In this output, all boolean values have been converted to character

seleniumrc_fu initial test issue
I have the seleniumrc_fu plugin installed and setup according to the instructions, and can run the selenium:test task if there are no test cases. My first test case simply does an open_home_page to verify that things are working at all. Unfortuniately there seems to be an issue with even this simple a test case. The following suggests that there is an issue with the getNewBrowserSession

[LLVMdev] LLVM/Clang research questions
Hi Duncan, Are the segmented stacks actually on separate memory segments? My intended purpose for placing different datatypes on separate stacks is such that memory accesses to one datatype won't be allowed to overflow to another datatype. If they aren't, in fact, on separate memory segments, are you aware of a way to place a non-readable/-writable segment in between two other stack
