RJS and Action Renders but page doesn''t update
All, I am trying to perform a simple ajax task and am having some difficulties with the page showing the response. The action performs, but no response on the page. I have found examples on the web and I believe I have copied and pasted exactly what works from the demo site. However, on my system it isn''t finishing. For a simple test, I have limited it down to an alert.

respond_to not detecting JS turned on. form_to_remote problem?
I''m trying to use respond_to to redirect visitors who have JS turned off to a different page. The problem I''m having is that respond_to is sending *everybody* there. It''s not recognizing that JS is turned on in the browser. The wanted_html.rhtml file below is rendered whether I''ve got JS turned on or off. I''ve looked at the Accept headers being sent

Firefox JS Console unusable
Hello, I wonder if somebody else is experiencing the same problem : Firefox''s Javascript console is unusable with RJS or Scriptaculous libraries. Every time I want to use it for debugging purpose (evaluating $ or $$ calls for example) I get a message stating that a script on the page must be stopped. If I stop that ''script'' (which script it is ?) the console is

RJS removing content of div, but not div itself
Hi, I''m creating a list of ingredients on a page. When the user clicks the ''Add Ingredient'' button a record gets added to the db and the ingredient gets added to the page. On the page, each record is represented by a <div> with three <span>s inside. One of the <span>s has a link_to_remote to ''delete'' the ingredient. When the link

TypeError : transport.responseText has no properties
Hello all, I''m using prototype in conjunction with Extjs to build out an Ajax- driven app. I''m noticing that occasionally there will be Ajax Requests that will occasionally not complete. After some investigation, I found that when I made a call to String#evalJSON, it would throw a TypeError with the following message : transport.responseText has no properties. When this

syntax for specifying :html fallback on form_remote_tag
Has anyone gotten the :html option for specifying a ''fallback'' action if javascript''s not enabled working on form_remote_tag (or remote_form_for)? I can''t figure out how to specify the action that''s supposed to be invoked if js _is_ enabled. Or maybe I''m just misunderstanding how this thing is supposed to work. I was assuming

form_remote_tag :onsubmit not working.
Hi, Has anyone successfully implemented the :onsubmit option for form_remote_tag. It doesn''t seem to work for me. Is there any specific version of rails which is required for the same. Here''s my piece of code. <script> function set_tojid(){ alert(''onsubmit''); } </script> <%= form_remote_tag :update => '''', :url => {

RJS is not loaded
Hello, I have here an issue which is really critical for me (it for my university work and I would like to not delete this feature). It based on a Rails 1.x tutorial which I use now under Rails 2.x. It contains the refreshment (adding content or records) of an div via RJS/JS. I access the RJS via (Controller): respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to :controller =>

rjs template modifying form_remote_tag
I would like to build a form which uses ajax on the first request, but on a subsequent request uses the regular form_tag. The reason for doing this is that I need a file upload in the second request, and so I can''t use AJAX. I''ve tried using an rjs template to modify the form_remote_tag''s id (using page.replace ''form_tag_id'', ...), but the request

Using ym4r/mapstraction''s cluster.js with RJS
Hey all, This is a little OT but ... I''m trying to use this the YM4R/mapstraction clusterer with RJS but having a hard time, I can create a working cluster when i initiate it in a controller, but not from RJS. For the proper flow in my app it would be very helpful to be able to do it from RJS. Thanks for the help, Chuck -- *Chuck Fletcher* Email: chuck at chuckfletcher.com

RJS -- What am I missing?
This is driving me nuts:-) I''ve brought it down to a simplified case where I''m rendering this rjs template: page.insert_html :top, ''cat1'', "<li>Some list item</li>" According to FireBug, this is what I''m actually getting in the browser: try { new Insertion.Top("cat1", "<li>Some list

RJS & Ajax question...
Hi, I''m trying to convert an older Rails application to use Ajax. I''ve already moved my edit and show actions so that, instead of displaying as separate pages, they appear in a <div> on my list view. However, I have two problems: 1) When the user saves the changes, I want to put all the ajax changes in an RJS template. However, form_remote_tag :url =>{:action =>

Rails 2.0.2 + RJS
Hi I had ajax commenting on my app, which worked perfectly on Rails v1.2.6, but does not work the same in Rails 2.02. Basically the comment gets added, but the visual effects do not work (ie lines 2 + 3 of create.rjs) create.js page.insert_html :bottom, ''comments'', :partial => ''comment'' page.visual_effect :appear, "comment_#{@comment.id}"

RJS head scratcher
I''ve been joyfully using RJS in a lot of our work lately, with no issues whatsoever. However, I am porting an application to RJS templates that we''ve had for a while, and having some issues. When I use Firebug to see what is going on, the response comes back like this: try { new Effect.Highlight("gi_error_row",{duration:20}); } catch (e) { alert(''RJS

RJS Templates for Rails
I''m happy to announce the availability of RJS Templates for Rails published by O''Reilly. The book covers all aspects and features of RJS that are included in Rails 1.1. It also walks through a few examples, debugging with FireBug, and finishes off with some reference material. The book is 56 pages and is available in PDF format. I''m really happy with how the book has

Routes from raw js (using XMLHttpRequest)
I am making an ajax call from js to call a method (assocboxchange) in my controller (AssociatesController), using XMLHttpRequest. I know the XMLHttpRequest works fine because I use it in other places with success. My problem is my URL I am using for this request doesn;t access the method in my controller which I (think) I am specifying. I am having it post to /channels/assocboxchange/" with
