Selecting a database from the application itself?
Hi everybody,
I just started thinking about a project and am seeking some help
regarding its design.
The idea would be to create labels (i.e. address labels).I could let
users type the text manually, but I dont think they would appreciate
that when they''ll want to print 5000 addresses.
I can also probably let them import csv files, that should not be a
problem, but playing with those

Self-referential join model does not work
I have been trying to model a labeled graph using ActiveRecord (trunk
version). Basically, I have a ''Node'' model which represents a node linking
to other nodes. Links (aka edges) are labeled (i.e., have a ''label''
attribute and other behavior). Thus I decided to model edges as an ''Edge''
model and use a ''has_many :trough''

boolean db fields set to false fail validation with validates_presence_of?
I have a model that contains a :boolean field. In my view, I have a
simple select of Yes or No, which equates to true or false,
respectively. If I choose yes and save, everything works great. If I
choose no, my model fails validation as I have this set as a required
field using validates_presence_of. I have checked the log and it''s
definitely set to false, why would this fail validation?

validates_peresence_of
Is there an expert validater that can point me in the right direction?
I''ve looked for extended documentation on ''validates_presence_of'' but i
can''t seem to find any.
I''m trying to make sure that i don''t enter a nil object in my database,
so i''ve added validate_presence_of to my Record Model.
i.e. -->

validates_uniqueness_of :aspect, :scope => :user_id
In an instance method of the same model I have "save!" but I don''t touch
the :aspect attribute in that instance method at all.
Whenever that save! command is run however I get this error:

validate_presence_of not working for me
Hi all,
I just begun with RoR and going through the Agile development w Rails
depot example ATM. I did everything according to the book (i believe),
and after 3 hours of googling, reading docs, making sure i did
everything correctly i can not make the validate_presence_of() to work -
at least not as it looks in the book. My Product model looks like:

Help with migrations and create
After creating a table in a create table migration, I''m then attempting
to populate a couple of rows of data in the table using the create
method. The first row gets inserted into the database, but any further
calls generate a select against the database, but no insert.
Am I doing something wrong, or is it inappropriate to create more than a
single row of data in a table using

change error messages for Validation helpers?
Is it possible to change error messages for Validation helpers? I am
writing an app against a existing database (so no control over column
names), but when there is validation error (e.g. with
validate_presence_of) I would like to customize the field name. For
example for telephone whose field name is PhoneNumber I would like to
chnage it to "Telephone Number cannot be empty" rather

validates :boolean_field, presence: true misconceptions
Last night a friend of mine started ranting about validates_presence_of
:boolean_field returning not valid when the boolean field is false.
I checked the rails issues and this seems to be a pretty common concern
about the naming of ''presence'' .
Instead of changing the behaviour of the presence validator, I was
wondering if maybe the answer to avoid such misconceptions could be

Can anyone confirm ? I''m guessing that each new create script requires a

obviously has multiple people. The people are senators at my

Flickr - Tutorial
So I''ve pretty much followed the steps in the video tutorial on RoR.com
for creating a small app, to search for photos on flickr.com - all is
good, and works as intended to..
How would I go about adding validation, so if no tags are specified it
will fail. I know I have to use validates_presence_of :tags - but not
in the controller.. so I tried to generate a model called

validates_presence_of validation order?
I have a form with 3 fields: user_id, email and password.
All 3 fields are required, so I have a "validates_presence_of :user_id,
:email, :password" in my model.
Works, but the validation errors show up in a different order than I
specificed in the validates_presence_of statement.
Is there a way to specify the order in which the validations (and
corresponding error messages) should

Hi - I have 3 fileds a user can fill out. They can fill out 2 of them or
just one of them, for example.

Field1 and Field2
Or fill out this field:

In my model how do I use validates_presence_of for Field1 and Field2 or

OR
validates_presence_of Field3
So the user can fill out
