similar to: File Associations (Windows Guy)

Now that my CentOS 5 server is up and running and playing nicely with Windows, it's time for fun. What's the easiest way to add MP3 support to the Rhythmbox Music Player.

When I try to read a .wmv file, I get the error message: "Totem could not play 'file://tmp/F15.wmv'. You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins.' Granted that I am missing something, what is it, and where do I get it / install it? Thanks in advance -- Bob T.

Can anybody please suggest a suitable plugin to enable playing of mp3 files with either Totem or Rythmbox. Both of these come as part of the CentOS 5 package, but strangely neither has the necessary plugin for mp3, which surely is a common enough format in the music world? Thanks, Andy

This is not too Important but Places > Connect to Server > Windows Share Doesn't work for me also Places > Network Servers > Windows Network doesn't work for me either. Samba, Mapping Windows Shares and Print Sharing work fine. Just curious, Thanks

I have both totem-nautilus and the assorted gstreamer-plugins installed for playing mp3 files through Totem. I note that Totem doesn't appear to know the duration of an mp3. For example, if I right-click on a wav or ogg file and click on the audio tab, one of the fields is Duration and it tells me how long that file will play. If I do the same with a mp3 file the duration field is always 0

Is there a way to increase the audio volume on CentOS 6. I have it set at the max and still very low. Thank you.

I need to install the kernel development package for CentOS 5, I saw the RPMs on the DVD but didn't see an option at installation time like 4.4. I only need it to install VMware Server 1.02, any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I have a small annoying problem with Ati video driver, when Centos 5.1 starts and gets to the login screen the resolution is too high for my monitor (better than out of range) and it's annoying can I have it start in a lower resolution. Thanks...

To all.. I was using a Gigabyte motherboard, and the board seems like a bad choice. What do you guys recommend for a decent server board that would use a Dual Core processor and DDR2 ram. I dont want to replace the CPU and Mem i already have, just find a decent board that supportsthe existing.. Hey Y'all, Recently my sound has been misbehaving. The issue exists when I play sound using Rhythmbox, Totem Movie Player, or even Youtube video in Firefox or Chrome. The sound stutters and drops out. Sounds very rough. On Youtube the sound will eventually just die and can not be restarted until the browser is shut down and restarted. I've had issues related to Repo Forge

I decided to go ahead and remove totem (don't much care for it anyway), and when I double-click a sound file in nautilus, it runs mplayer to play the file, but I also get an error window (from mplayer) that says "[AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: Device or resource busy" but it is playing the sound file just fine. I can close the error window and everything

oddcast currently doesn't do speex, or ogg-speex. One of the biggest problems currently with speex (and flac too) is client support. I've just recently added ogg-flac support to oddcast (not yet available) and in my testing found that client support for this format is horrible. On windows, Winamp and Foobar choke on it (most likely assuming that if it's ogg, it must be vorbis)

While doing a browser fingerprinting survey, I was quite surprised to see I actually have a FireFox plugin installed. The culprit is /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/librhythmbox-itms-detection-plugin.so It appears that whoever maintains the rhythmbox RPM has chosen not to package the browser plugin separately like it probably should be. So if I have the rhythmbox RPM installed, I have the plugin.

So I've just ripped my entire 600 CD collection to flac format (200gigs worth) with vorbis comments in the flac metadata. But my gripe is that neither Winamp nor XMMS's flac plug-ins seem to have the ability to read the vorbis comment from the metadata. Are there any flac players for windoze or linux that can access the metadata? Or do i have to add redundant ID3 tags to all my flac
