form_remote_for & file uploads
Has anyone successfully gotten Ajax file uploads working using
form_remote_for & attachment_fu? I have seen Sean Treadway''s
responds_to_parent plugin and many other samples available, and they
all seen to statically generate <form> tags. Is there a way to get a
file upload to work using the Rails helpers?

Calculations across multiple tables
I have a time tracking app where (pseudo-code)
Client has_many Task has_many TimeRecord
TimeRecord
start_at, :datetime
end_at, :datetime
What I''m trying to do (and I have done using find_by_sql in the past) is get
a sum of the timespan given by ended_at - begun_at for each client.
Is it naive to imagine that AR''s calculations will span relations to provide

form_remote_for NOT passing param: I want put and I get post
Hello,
I''m struggling my brain with this ajax issue ...
Basically I have a form for creating records, and I want to submit it
using Ajax.
On previous versions of RoR (2.0.2) it was working, but the same methods
doesn''t work on 2.2.2, and I started to make changes and changes and
read forums and the api, but no way ...

file_field doesnt work inside form_remote_for
When I do file_field within a form_for things are fine... but within a
form_remote_for, with nothing else changed, I find that the params
does not even have the element document[uploaded_file] even though it
is definitely present in the HTML source in the form. Obviously the
file upload fails.
Am I missing something? Or has someone else faced this? Or is this a
known bug?

Unable to update database object
This is really strange - hopefully someone out there may have seen
behavior like this before. I have a user successfully created in the
Users table of my application. When I try to update a single column
using:
@user = User.find(:first,
:conditions => ["login_name = ?",
@login_user.login_name])
@user.new_cookie_key
@user.save
I get the error:

Login form_tag with select_tag option
Hi all,
In the application i develop, a sophisticated login system is required.
Being a newbie in Ruby, i''m not comfortable with the select tag in the
form tag.
My requirement:
2 tables - User(LoginName, Password, RoleId...) and Role(RoleId,
RoleName...)
View - RoleNames to be loaded in the drop down box and On submit, RoleId
to be passed to controller for authentication.
My Code

-h, --help option
Hi,
tmux author refuses to add -h, --help option, because OpenSSH
does not have it [1]. I don't see why convenience features of tmux
should depend on OpenSSH, but because I have no other choice
(and got curious) I ask here - why OpenSSH doesn't provide -h or
--help option?
I use PuTTY as my client, which processes --help option, and for
`ssh` binary I usually use Google + StackOverflow.

DRY Javascript Degredation
Hi,
It seems there must be a better way to do this than what I am
currently doing.
I have a simple app that collects a users thoughts along with their
email address and their first an last name. On a page that lists all
the users thoughts they can click on a link to "add a thought" which
then displays a form with ajax. My current methodology for this is
not very dry. If js is

Problem with nested form using collection_select and date_select
Hello people
I have a table named Items. Items belongs_to inventory, and Items
belongs_to product.
so items looks like
Item
-id
-inventory_id
-product_id
-date
-comments
The main idea is that I want to create an item while I''m creating the
inventory by using nested form in the inventory form (I already test
creating item with its own methods and forms and works fine), and I
get an

XML htmlTreeParse fails with no obvious error
Hi all,
Sorry for the rather uninformative subject, but the error I get is not very informative either.
When using the XML and RCurl package to retrieve the content of an html page, htmlTreeParse fails, printing out the beginning of the HTML:
Error in htmlTreeParse(getURL(url)) :
File <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
