ActionMailer and url_for in helper methods
Hi,
I was wondering how to get url_for to work inside ActionMailer. I did
research on the web but I can''t seem to find something that fits what I
need.
In my application, each user can specify their custom domain to access
their. I have an ActionMailer that sends them notifications of changes
that occur. In there, I have a breadcrumbs helper method, which
generages something like:

Absolutize URLs in a string
I wonder - do we have some helper/processor/gem to automatically
convert all URLs in a passed string to their canonical equivalent -
i.e. with the protocol, host and such prepended based on the Rails
environment. Super-duper infty for RSS feeds (I hate their
requirement for canonical URLs everywhere).

Setting :canvas => false for URL generation doesn''t always work?
I generate a lot of URL''s in my Facebook related code that point to our main
site, not our FB app. My understanding was that the way to do this was to
use ":canvas => false" as a parameter to url_for and link_to and so on.
However, that doesn''t seem to generate the proper URL''s. The URL''s still
point to apps.facebook.com (because they

Problems with *_path() and *_url() helpers when using Publisher
Hello,
I am running into issues using *_path() and *_url() helpers the
Facebooker Publisher framework. I encounter the following error when
using these helpers while *inside of a partial*:
undefined method `default_url_options'' for ActionView::Base:Class
I''ve seen a few other people speak about this issue, yet I haven''t
seen any resolution on the mailing list yet.

absolute urls in url_for vs. link_to
In both url_for and link_to, the :only_path param can be used to
determine whether the link url used is complete with hostname and path,
or just has the path (a kind of relative url).
However, in url_for it defaults to false (urls with hostnames), and in
link_to it defaults to true ( urls without hostnames, just paths).
Is there any reason for this discrepency? To me, it violates the
principle

ImageScience, Mini-Magick and RMagick
I''m going to be generating thumbnails from user uploaded images. I''m
looking around at the libraries available to do this sort of thing and
there are three that look promising.
ImageScience -- http://seattlerb.rubyforge.org/ImageScience.html
Mini-Magick -- http://rubyforge.org/projects/mini-magick/

facebook_url_rewriter not used in Publisher?
As per my last email, I''m generating links to our app outside of Facebook.
Sorry for the onslaught of emails on this. I do link generation in
Publisher based code as well. What I''m finding is that the Facebooker
UrlRewriter doesn''t get used in Publisher. This makes sense if we assume
that Publisher can be used outside of an HTTP request, and things like the

simple routing & linking question
So I have an existing app & facebook app in same rails application,
for now I have decided to go the route of creating a controller for
facebook stuff (called FaceController).
(setup is canvas, fbml)
So I have:
facebook config
http://myurl:myport/face/
My controllers name is face, so I dont even need a manual route, for
the landing page it works like a charm.
but, when I try to make

MiniMagick... Core Dump when Reszing Images?
Hi,
I''m using Mini Magick and that attachment_fu plugin to resize images
that the user uploads. Everything looks okay in my code, but I get a
core dump every time an image is uploaded.
The file successfully posts to the application, I can see that the
original file gets copied into the folder correctly. It appears that
it dumps immediately after that. I''m using Mongrel behind

default_url_options for relative tag URLs
Hello,
I need help with using ''default_url_options''. At least this is the
function that I *think* is involved in the solution I seek. :)
I''m deploying my rails app beneath an Apache ProxyPass setup. I''ve got
it all working fine except that any rails tagging functions in my
templates create absolute URL references.
For example, this stylesheet function in my

file_field doesnt work inside form_remote_for
When I do file_field within a form_for things are fine... but within a
form_remote_for, with nothing else changed, I find that the params
does not even have the element document[uploaded_file] even though it
is definitely present in the HTML source in the form. Obviously the
file upload fails.
Am I missing something? Or has someone else faced this? Or is this a
known bug?

Accessing request.host in UserMailer
I am using subdomains in my application to control context. Therefor,
during user registration, password reset, and other actions that require
an email to be sent with a link to be clicked, I need to ensure that the
subdomain appropriate for the user is used.
It seems I need to be able to access request.host from within an
ActionMailer model. But I am not clear how to do this.
Any help would be

Redirect without port number?
On my host I run my lighttpd instance bound to a specific port and my
hostname is mapped to this port (I''m not exactly sure how this is
accomplished, but it is lighttpd also listening on port 80 which handles
this for me I believe).
A redirect from rails includes my local port number in the request, so that
it shows up in the address bar. I prefer people not to see this - I

form_tag with protocol => ''https'' help
Hi,
I am not having much luck using the form_tag with a protocol. I try
the following in my view: index.rhtml
<%= form_tag({:controller => ''home'',:action => ''login'',:protocol =>
''https''},{:method => ''post''}) %>
hoping it would generate
<form action=''https://myhost.com/home/login''

accessing extra request parameters
hi all,
how are other people passing and accessing ''get'' parameters from their apps?
what is the best way to do it?
ie:
www.example.com/controller/action/id/extra/extra2/ ??
or
www.example.com/controller/action/id/~extra/extra2/
or what ever....
are there built in methods for passing and accessing extra parameters?
thanks for your suggestions

request.host, proxy chains and HTTP_X_FORWARDED_HOST
Hi,
We''ve an application that uses url_for in controllers and views. In
views, url_for generates a relative url (as if :only_path where used).
All is fine there.
However, in controllers, url_for generates a full url, with the host
name. This causes problems when we have a chain of Apache proxy
servers:
My Browser ---> Proxy 1 ----> Proxy 2 ----> Phusion Deployment Server.
