Diffserv Research Network
Hi all, We are a group of research students and working on IPv6 QoS aware Grid. >From our set of experiments we have a particular case: Suppose a host A want to initiate traffic of some kind to host B, where A and B are connected by two intermediate routers wherein there can be other connections from the router. Our needs are as follows 1. We assume that routers are Diffserv routers and

Something about diffserv!
Hello, As we know that there are four kinds of AF in diffserv architecture, and each kind has three different priorities. So, there are 12 different kinds of AF, is it right? Of course, each AF has its recommended DSCP value. Then, we know the AF is classified into four differnt classes, such as AF1, AF2, AF3, and AF4. But in a Diffserv domain, and in the core router, there will be a classifier

How to DSMARK locally generated traffic and then apply AFHTB?
Hi fellow traffic-shapers, I am implementing a Diffserv CORE router using Linux kernel 2.4.18. I used this excellent website (http://www.opalsoft.net/qos/DS-38.htm) using AFHTB as a starting basis for my EGRESS diffserv implementation - and all works great so far!!! But my project has an additional requirement. There are services running locally on the router which are sending/receiving IP

About Diffserv on linux!
Hello, This is a question about diffserv on linux. We know, there is a file sch_dsmark in linux source code. Now, i want to add something in the function dsmark_enqueue, for example, i want to add a function which can add a class and queue automately in dsmark_enqueue. That is, not using the command tc. After adding one, it works well, but when add the second one, there is a kernel panic:

unknown qdisc "dsmark"
hi, I''m a beginner with qdiscs and other lartc stuff. After reading the howto and other related documents (i.e. some papers about linux and diffserv), I decided to start with some test. I found some example script to implement simple diffserv using dsmark, but, just after the first command: tc qdisc add dev eth1 handle 1:0 root dsmark indices 64 set_tc_index the system answered:

Problem with iptables with -j TOS and MARK
Hy, I would want to mark the packets that are entering in a machine, with a mark for using diffserv with DSMARK. My machine has 2 interfaces, a ethernet and a wireless. The ethernet interface is eth1 and the other is wifi0. Firs, I would want to test that I would be able to mark the tos of the paquets that I would be receiving, for this I write in the console of my linux: iptables -A

mgen & tc
Hello, I have the following proplem. My DiffServ configuration is working fine when I do ping, but when I use mgen the packets are not detected at the core router. Here is my core router configuration: #!/bin/bash tc qdisc add dev eth1 handle 1:0 root dsmark indices 64 set_tc_index tc filter add dev eth1 parent 1:0 protocol ip prio 1 tcindex mask 0xfc shift 2 tc qdisc add dev eth1 parent

u32 nexthdr problem
I''m having trouble with nexthdr. tc filter add dev eth0 protocol ip parent 10:0 prio 1 u32 \ match ip protocol 0x6 0xff match u8 0x02 0x12 at nexthdr+13 flowid 10:3 fails to match my test packets whereas tc filter add dev eth0 protocol ip parent 10:0 prio 1 u32 \ match ip protocol 0x6 0xff match u8 0x02 0x12 at 33 flowid 10:3 does match them. Of course, the second one is really wrong

using tc to drop packets based on the diffserc or tos value
Hi all, I am wondering if anyone can help me to resolve a problem. I am trying to use tc command in linux to drop udp packets of specific diffserv value. I am able set diffserv value successfully in the udp packet using command:- [root@scotch src]#iptables --table mangle --append OUTPUT \ --out-interface eth0 --protocol udp --source-port 5060 \ --jump DSCP --set-dscp 8 but i am not able to

ipip and nexthdr
After carefull reading (LARTC) and experimentation, I am in a dead end... I am using several IPIP tunnels (linux ipip module, IP protocol 4). I''d like to filter packets going through these tunnes to different classes, on the ingress device, based on source and destination IP _INSIDE THE TUNNEL_. First I tried the nexthdr bit. As explained in LARTC, nexthdr jumps to the next header

RFC: [PATCH] Add TCP congestion control and Diffserv options
In the bufferbloat age, anything that can make for a kinder, gentler bulk transfer protocol seems desirable. This add support for user and server selectable congestion control algorithms. As examples: --congestion-alg=lp # For the tcp-lp algorithm on the command line Or in a subsection: [mystuff] congestion alg = westwood # for a wireless connection And diffserv support: --diffserv=8 for

QoS in Linux
Hello All, I am interested in QoS provided by Linux, when I looked into IP header I came accross ToS field, also while going more into detail about QoS I found that the QoS based on ToS is serviced thru DiffServ which in turn gives more priority to packets with higher value is ToS field, but I am not able to understand when we finally call dev->hard_start_xmit routine of underlying device

tc and Parametre of performance of network
hi, The parameters of performance of a network (Diffserv) are : - IP packet transfer delay - Ip packet delay variation - Ip packet loss ratio - Bandwidth used By using TC for the implementation, which is the best tool to know periodically all these parameters (for every tc class)? Thanks in advance ---------------------------------

Problem: DSCP target
Hello everybody, I have tried several iptables versions (from 1.2.4 to 1.2.6a) to mark outgoing packets (change the DSCP field) with no success. #iptables -A OUTPUT -t mangle -d 10.0.0.3 -j DSCP --set-dscp 0x2 iptables v1.2.6a: unknown arg ''--set-dscp'' TOS target is working fine, but I want to create different codes for EF and AF classes in a diffserv

Problem setting shift value in tcindex filter on big endian machine
Hi all, I''m trying to get some DiffServ QoS shaping to work on an XScale machine, running big endian. I''m setting it up with tc. Using the tcindex filter I found that regardless what shift value I enter, only ''0'' is returned when I list the filters afterwards. The very same rules work fine on my (little endian) PC. Looking at the code

Data rate with HTB
Dear all, I''m making a script to implement DiffServ policies with HTB. Here it is : if test $1 = "help" -o $1 = "h" -o $# != 5 then echo "usage: ds.sh <DEVICE> <DS_RATE> <EF_RATE> <AF_RATE> <BE_RATE>" exit fi DEV=$1 DS_RATE=$2 EF_RATE=$3 AF_RATE=$4 BE_RATE=$5 sync tc qdisc del root dev $DEV tc qdisc add dev $DEV root handle

Hello all, This is just a self-aggrandizing note to inform you all that my rather brief introduction to traffic control using tcng and HTB is available now on TLDP. http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Traffic-Control-tcng-HTB-HOWTO/ I welcome any criticism. -Martin -- Martin A. about the traffic control
Hi, all: I''m involved in the study about the QoS,but have some problems , hope someone could help me answer: 1. Why most traffic shaping implement in the egress side (Uplink) rather than the ingress side(Dnlink)?(e.g. why put the police rule on the smaller bandwidth side but not put on the larger side) 2. I can''t differ the functionalities exactly

HTB does not respect the prio parameter
Hi all, I''m experimenting with HTB and the prio parameter and it does not give me results I expect. I''ve created 4 HTB classes: 1:10 TCP ACKs (prio 0) 1:20 TCP traffic on dst port 10001 (prio 1) 1:30 TCP traffic on dst port 10000 (prio 2) 1:40 Default (prio 3) ceil and rate parameters are the same for all 4 classes (rate is
