Smoothwall Appliance in Xen
Is anyone here running Smoothwall Appliance as a VM in Xen? We''re
running it right now, but it''s running fully virtualized instead of
para-virtualized. Anyone know if it can run as a PV?
It crashed yesterday with only a 100 user sessions on it. Not much in
the log except:

How to route certain ports to other link
Hi,
I have one satellite link and one sdsl link. And, one
LAN link.
My load balancing is working great with a iptables''s
masquerading (no fw rules).
Now, I need to route the following ports to my sdsl
link: -
20, 21, 22, 25, 80, 110, 143, and 443
Whereas the others go to my satellite link.
Does anyone done this before?
Regards,
rootlinux

routing question
So far I have been used to using linux to provide simple routing from my
network to others using commands such as ip route add 192.168.1.0/24 via
192.168.0.4 etc and it has all worked perfectly.
I also use smoothwall GPL to provice vpn services, however I have hit on
a problem and am not at all clear on the way in which to proceed.
I now need to provide a route to services, the access to these

Load Balancing over A Bidirectional and Uni-directional Link
Hi All,
I want to achieve load balancing over two internet
links where one link is both upload and download and
the other link is download only (satellite).
I am running a linux host as a router with one
internet link of 256 kbps which supports about 50 LAN
users. We are not running any servers and all the
traffic originates from the LAN. My first link (say
link A) gives me a bandwidth of 256

winbindd stays at 100% CPU having joined a domain
[ Please would anyone replying to this maintain the Cc list here as my
dear colleague is not subscribed to this mailing list. ]
Hello all,
I am trying to track down an oddity with winbindd. We're using samba only
to join a given domain -- so the config file is very minimal, as per:
[global]
workgroup = TEDDYBEARS
netbios name = SMOOTHWALL
realm = TEDDYBEARS.LOCAL

two WANs one LAN
Hello list,
I want a set-up with a satellite link (eth0) and a cellular cdma
link (ppp0) coming into a linux box with a LAN (eth1 or wlan0)
to be able to route first through the satellite when it''s on, or
else the cdma when it''s in range. Load sharing is not critical,
but it would be nice. The satellite has a static IP, the cdma
is dynamic. Both WANs are

smoothwall is linux based.
m0n0wall was a BSD firewall that pfSense forked from back in 2004.

NTLM protocol/multiple DCs
I'm trying to modify the typical Squid/ntlm_auth/winbindd arrangement to
support authenticating to multiple independent domains. I have a
prototype solution but would like to know if it would work in the
general case. (I used http://davenport.sourceforge.net/ntlm.html as a
reference for the NTLM protocol.)
In the prototype I have multiple instances of winbindd and ntlm_auth

Netbios name resolution with DHCP
I have a network with RH7.2 (netbois name "server"), Mandrake 8.1
("Linuxbox"), Smoothwall ("Smoothwall"), WinNT ("di-bosco"), Win 98
("robertw" & "Nicole") x 2 and Win 2k ("DiBosco2k").
Smoothwall is the DHCP server.
Why would it be that all the Windows machines can ping to a netbios name, eg
ping server, ping Linuxbox

two routes, non-permanent higher proiority
Hi LARTC experts,
Can you help me with this scenario? I have been
lurking on this list for a while, but I am very green
wrt advanced routing.
I have a slackware linux based server in a vehicle with
a high bandwidth satellite connection which is only
available while the vehicle is stationary.
This satellite connection comes in via eth0. But while
the vehicle is moving or stationary, we can

OSPF with Netem
Hi all,
I am currently trying to emulate a satellite link, via Netem, on a testbed which is OSPF-enabled.
I''d like to set up a Netem box between two routers.
Since all routing between routers is dynamic, I''m wondering how to set up OSPF on my Netem box?
Could someone indicate me if it is feasible and give me some guidelines to possibly do so?
Thanks in advance,
Vincent.

Need current interface queue length for network interfaces
I have developed a TCP accelerator (TCP PEP) to improve the performance of
TCP based applications over satellite, RF, and other challlanged
environments. Among other things, the TCP PEP assumes a known quantity of
bandwidth has been dedicated to the PEP. Thus the TCP PEP can essentially
emit data at line rate and not self congest the network. I am trying to
port this application to use PPP (and

Checking root filesystem: Failed
Hi
I am using ext3 on Smoothwall Express 2 firewall,
which I understand is based originally off Red Hat.
The machine runs headless, without a monitor. On one
ocassion booting stopped, hooking up a monitor
revealed this,

checked, check forced.

re:help from richard
Considering you use mozilla-thunderbird 0.7. I suggest you try using the
spell check facility.
It might make your message understandable, and why run Tbird with Wine.?
Good luck with your new mailing list. BTW smoothwall is a firewall.

Hardware solution? (or v.easy software fix instead)
I''m moving to a new place and my new flatmate wants a router because
he likes the cleaness of it all in a non geeky way which I can
understand.
This means it''s going to be hard for me to pursude him to let me run a
computer as a router to act as bandwidth cop.
But I don''t fancy trying to use ssh, VNC and games while he''s using
WindowsUpdate or p2p.
So I need

IAX2 trunk mode over satellite
Today has been the day for satellite questions, apparently, so I'll
proxy one out to the rest of the community... I asked this
tangentially a month or two ago, but I'll put it in a more blunt way:
If you have IAX2 trunking mode experience over satellite, please let
us know your experiences with that protocol/transport combination.
I've got several people asking about IAX2 and
