Problem with validates_length_of an integer
Hello guys, I''m trying to validate the input of an integer from a form,
here is a bit of code:
This is the definition of the offending column in the migration:
t.column :position, :integer, :default => 0, :limit => 3, :null => false
And here is how I try to validate it inside de model:
validates_length_of :position, :within => 1..3
And this is the exception I get when I

validates_numercality_of with allow_nil.
In the model I have:
validates :square_meters_public_land, :barrier_meters, :numericality
=> { :greater_than_or_equal_to => 0 }, :allow_nil => true
but if, in the field, on create, I don''t insert a value I have the
error "field is not a number".

Moving page_cache_directory
Howdy. I''m working on a RoR CMS and need cached pages to all be in
public/cache rather than public [in order to set svn:ignore on all the files
properly]. I can get page_cache_directory set correctly and the pages are
cached in the right place but Mongrel isn''t serving them because it''s only
looking for them in public. During development I know I can set -r

validation null objects and objects with data
I have a model where initially, they we don''t insert an gov_id value
because it isn''t known.
The field is given a value of "" because it is on the form.
I then added code to the ''create'' method to set that value to nil if it
is blank which seems to be fine but then it fails this validation (if
NULL)
validates_length_of :gov_id, :maximum =>

:allow_nil validation vs. blank?
I think I must be doing something wrong... when a form returns params
to the controller, empty fields appear to be returned as blank, not
nil. so what''s the point of an :allow_nil=>true setting on a
validation? it fails because blank is not the same as nil.
i would expect either returned empty fields to be nil, or :allow_nil
to really be :allow_blank. otherwise i have to do a search

Patch idea for rspec_on_rails
I recently wrote a matcher for testing AR associations which allows
you to specify things like:
Foo.should have_many(:bars).through(:bazes)
I''m pretty darned proud of it and a couple of people have suggested
that I should submit it to the rspec_on_rails project. Before I go to
the trouble of writing out rdoc and fully spec''ing it, I just wanted
to make sure this was

Exception notifier not working
I installed the exception notifier via:

It resides in the vendor/exception_notification directory (as
advertised). I''ve configured environment.rb with the following:

Stop browser from "form filling" fields.
Hi all,
I have a user login form which the browser keeps populating because of
its form fill feature. So when anyone goes to log in it shows the
previous login''s username and password. How can I stop the browser
from populating a text field?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Diego

autotest debugger?
Hi,
I keep facing problems with autotest, and I don''t know what''s happening
in the background, is there anyway to know what''s happening while
testing?
Example:
@user = User.new
@user.email = "testcom"
@user.errors.on(:email).should_not be_empty
...throws error failure

Making 'expire_fragment' available to a model?
I noticed a lot of repetition across different Sweeper models in my
app expiring the same fragments and so have been trying to move all
the expire_fragment calls into another model which the sweepers can
then use but it''s not working as I''d hoped..
I''ve created a CacheDestroyer model and want to be able to call

negate the regexp in validates_format_of
Railsters:
ActiveRecord''s validation system puts other database systems to shame.
However, the newbies might not know how to write a regexp that
excludes a match, instead of tests for it. Understand - I''m just
asking this question to help them. I have been using Regexps since
''grep'' on Xenix! But the newbies here might not know how to do this:

message: " - Name is too long"

validates_length_of with char field
I am new to ruby/rails and am having a problem with validates_length_of.
It seems to work fine on a varchar field, but when I try it on a char
field the extra characters are silently truncated and the message
appears that the record was successfully updated.
How can I get my app to produce my error message instead? I''ve tried
various variations, but here''s one of my tries:

dynamic tablenames
Hi List!
May I tap into your combined common sense ?
I have a legacy logging app that needs to be modernized. At the moment,
Data is going to be stored in 5 tables, one table is going to contain
more than 200 million and 2 others about 60 million rows. Mysql will be
used, unless someone sees a major advantage in using something else (at
the moment data is stored in a raw positioned file format,
