Lighttpd refuses to bind to externally routable IP address
Hello,
All is fine when I run in development mode with rails + lighttpd. I''m
using the lighttpd.conf file that is auto-generated by Rails. Works just
fine in developemtn mode.
When I swith to production mode and use my externally routed domain name
lighttpd refuses to bind to the address. I know the address works since
I run a mail server behind it. I can ssh to it, etc.
I have

How to connect a guest to a fixed routable address?
I am experimenting with kvm on a quad x86_64 running CentOS-5.5. I
have created my first virtual guest and it seems to run fine. Now I
wish to assign that particular guest to a fixed, public IP address.
There seems to be at least two ways to proceed and I am soliciting
comments on the preferred approach.
In the first instance I can use brctl to create a bridged 'shared
physical device'

how do you rate limit routable traffic without rate limiting LAN protocols like arps and igmp?
I''m rate limiting and prioritizing traffic upstream of a slow wan link
using htb, classic wonder shaper type stuff. I''m using the following
command for traffic that does not match any of my defined filters:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 50
It appears that local, non-routable traffic like arps and igmp are being
snared by this and end-up queued in the lowest

Issues with Puppet on FreeBSD / Creating a Recipe
Hi,
I am running an environment with 15 FreeBSD servers on which I want to
maintain ports, rc.conf settings, and assorted configuration in
/usr/local/etc/. Looked around the existing Puppet docs, I got a
puppetmaster and a test client to work and install a package as
specified in the site manifest. This is very basic but awesome!
I want to create a puppet FreeBSD HowTo that addresses a

Adding/Removing Headers with Sendmail
Hi,
I posted this query a few weeks ago but never received a response. I'm
guessing that I didn't put things right, so here is another go.
The company that I work for currently has email addresses in the format
of:-
firstname.surname.ext at example.com
Which we use for various marketing campaigns (therefore the .ext bit is
variable).
Currently we have this setup as distribution

Squid - Load Balancing Multihomed Linux Router
Hi All,
In a scenario, where a LAN is being provided internet connectivity
through multiple ISPs terminated at a Load Balanced Multihomed Linux
Router as described in LARTC HowTo, how would the traffic distribution
affected if there is a squid based transparent proxy for the LAN''s web
traffic on the same system (i.e. the load balanced router itself). The
recent squid versions have

icecast stats
I don't mind using the password.
Just I am asking if there is some sort of protocol to retrieve the
information without playing with the xsl !!
I mean, to directly retrieve the wanted information, like
ME: Get MetaData
Server: Celin Dion - All comes back to me.

icecast stats
I have a patch on icecast-2.2.0 svn version which was written
specifically to support SimpleCast users to retrieve the stats for their
mountpoint and only that mountpoint. This is based on per mount-point
username password. Using HTTP authentication the client can retrieve
only http://hostname/admin/stats.xml given the correct
username/password. This will only return the stats for that

About peer UDP address detection
I would like to discuss the following commit:
https://github.com/gsliepen/tinc/commit/4a0b9981513059755b9fd15b38fc198f46a0d6f2
("Determine peer's reflexive address and port when exchanging keys")
This is a great feature as it basically allows peers to do UDP Hole
Punching (via MTU probes) even when both are having their source ports
rewritten by a NAT, which is extremely useful.

Lighttpd aliased does not render css or images - please help!
Hello all,
I''m very badly in need of help here. I''m sooo close to this solution, and I
WILL be blogging this when I finally have it working.
I''m using Lighttpd + Mongrel + aliased app. I have the basic alias
working. http://localhost/myapp/ renders the routed :controller/:action as
does http//localhost/myapp/controller/action for production pages.

fonts in apps are anti-aliased in contrast to system setting
System: OpenSuse 11 with wine-1.1.2
Environment: MS truetype fonts are installed for SUSE, and the system is set according to http://en.opensuse.org/Optimal_Use_of_Fonts_on_SuSE, so anti-aliasing is disabled for font size under 13, the bytecode interpreter threshold is set to 18 points.
Problem: The settings are working for native Linux programs, the fonts are sharp. However in windows
