Successfully importing Rubyful Soup objects
All, At the top of my controller, I have: require ''rubygems'' require_gem ''rubyful_soup'' The rubyful_soup gem has been successfully installed. However, when I go to instantiate a class from it, using parser = BeautifulSoup.new(html) I get uninitialized constant BeautifulSoup Is there something else I need to do to see the symbols in the Rubyful Soup gem?

Is there QA on Rails gem releases?
The ActionMailer/ActionPack gem release is still screwed up. Does someone test the gem releases to ensure that they work? Just an idea. Wes -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

"mysql" 2.7.3 gem install for Windows appears incomplete
When I install the 2.7.3 "mysql" gem on Windows XP (trying to prepare for the requirement to use the mysql gem in Rails 2.2.2) by using: gem install mysql I get a mysql-2.7.3-x86-mswin32 directory under gems, but underneath that, only a docs directory, an ext directory, and README, Rakefile and .require_paths. I then cannot do any connecting to my MySQL databases. Shouldn''t

Generic page element display initializer in a layout?
All, I''ve run into a snag. I need to handle the display of elements on my page and I want to use my Javascript event handlers on page load. However, my BODY tag is trapped in my generic layout. I''m thinking that I can put an onLoad on the BODY tag that will just call a Javascript method called initializePage() and then provide this initializePage() call in my specific page

Using <%= text_field %> within partials is problematic
All, Thanks for any help in advance. I have what I think is a very straightforward partial template and I can''t figure out why a text_field call within it doesn''t work. Here is my calling template: lists.rhtml <div id="target_lists"> <%= render(:partial => "target_lists", :collection => @target_lists) %> </div> In the partial

Apache/fastcgi setup can''t find custom config/*.yml file!
All, Apache 2/FastCGI on Linux My fastcgi config. file is set up to run the "test" RAILS_ENV. When I go to access a view associated with a particular controller, I keep getting a ENOENT (file not found) error on a custom config. file that I am attempting to load. Does text_field go directly to attributes hash in AR object?
All, I''m having a hell of a time figuring out what is going on here. I''m trying to override one of my getters so that I can format it a certain way in my form. But I can''t seem to get text_field to call the appropriate method on my object. So here''s my getter: public def FAX fax = read_attribute(:FAX) puts fax

How do you run WEBrick under Rails 2.x?
It appears that Mongrel is now the default development server for Rails as of 2.x. I''m assuming this because I''m unable to run Mongrel (for reasons I don''t totally understand yet - I am running Windows and I keep getting asked for MSVCR80.dll which is a _64 bit_ dll on my Win XP machine) and if I issue ruby script/server, I see the same errors that I get when I try to

Wrap error_messages_for() call when no instance var present
I am trying to put some smarts around a call to <%= error_messages_for %> so that when I first come into this page i.e. when my instance variable @target_list has not been defined yet, the page doesn''t break. I''m doing this: <% if @target_list? %> <%= error_messages_for ''target_list'' %> <% end %> I get a syntax error on line 1.

How to handle Gem repository failures?
Well, I''ve managed to screw myself but good, apparently. I cleanup my "old" versions of actionmailer and actionpack, and now the rails gem is unavailable and of course, I can''t start rails 1.1.2 without the latest actionpack and actionmailer. None of the rails related gems appears to be currently available in the repository for me to get the old versions back so

Upload progress update bar question
I''m trying to follow these instructions to include the Javascript progress bar on a page. However, I''m confused. In my controller, when I try to access update_upload_progress_bar_js which is defined in actionpack/lib/action_view/helpers/upload_progress_helper.rb I get a "no such method" error. Can I use helpers in my controller class and, if so, how do I

Setting a global before_filter action in application.rb
Can you set a global before_filter action in application.rb? So, for example, you could control authentication for all of the controllers in an app.? Obviously, you would need a way to reference actions by controller within this "global before-filter". Thanks, Wes -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Setup new data in the test database _after_ unit test runs
All, I want to run automated unit tests as part of my build. I am building to my test environment. Upon successful completion of all of my unit tests, I would then like to load some data (using a fixture, I imagine) into my test database that will act as fresh "system test" data for my users to play with. What is the best way to "load the standard system test/user acceptance
