Traffic Priority by IP address..
Hi, I have a PC that acts as a VoIP gateway using an internet telephony provider to make phone calls.. Data between me and the provider will always be from one IP address on my internal network to the provider.. I have a 1Mbps/256Kbps ADSL line and the voice stream is highly compressed requireing only 30Kbps of bandwidth.. The problem is that when my Mozilla Mail client polls for mail or

[Fwd: Re: RED/GRED implementation for InBound Traffic Control (from ISP)]
Sorry all, this is the missing email that I referred to previously. I inadvertently sent it only to the original poster rather than the list. Sorry for the wasted b/w for those who don''t care... 2 Questions on filtering incoming stuff
Two easy questions after having read the LARTC HOWTO document (which by the way is a *fantastic* document. Congratulations to all who contributed!) First is: Can I prioritise my "drops" on incoming traffic when the link is overloaded. ie instead of just tail dropping, can I "prefer" to drop certain classes of traffic? If so, do I do this by setting up, say, a HTB tree

QoS to prioritise netlogon traffic over SMB file shares
Exactly what it says in the subject really. Looking for a way to prioritise the netlogon requests on the network above the file share transfers. We have a few desktops that are used for design files and are connected by 1Gbe along with a fleet of WiFi (802.11g generally) enabled laptops. Trying to logon while the desktops are transferring large files can cause some nasty issues. Thinking about

Audio breakup problems
I've been having audio breakup problems (on my end) in my Asterisk tests. I'm not sure of the most likely source of this quality problem. 99% of my LD calls are calling into a tele-conference service called freeconference.com for group meetings. Its a free phone conference system that works quite well with pstn phones. I've been using it for quite some time. But the audio problems

Detect and mark ''bulk'' http traffic
To give fast web browsing on my network, I prioritise http traffic by marking it all into a high priority band (''30''). This generally works quite well, as unidentified traffic such as p2p falls by default into a lower priority band (''40''). However, I would like to de-prioritise anyone doing large downloads over http, which currently get high priority. Is there

[nbdkit PATCH 4/4] server: Better documentation of .open ordering
Because we pass a next() pointer to .open, the filter can choose whether to call it first (inner-to-outer completion) or last (outer-to-inner). However, all our filters currently call it first, and this logically lines up with the mirror ordering of outer-to-inner used during .close. ZHONE Fix !! (long)
Everyone - thought I would pass on a useful piece of information. Finally got a solution to my phantom ringing problem. Problem - the zhone is triggered into detecting ringing by the Automatic Line Insulation Tests (ALIT or LIT) run nightly automatically by the telco. Here it is twice between 8pm and 9pm on my particular lines. My first approach before I knew specifically the buzzword for

Adding XDG BDS paths *as fallbacks only*, not replacing ~/.ssh
Since I can't help but feel like my previous email is already being flat-out ignored, I would just like to reiterate: - I am not asking for ~/.ssh to stop being used. - I am happy to contribute this myself with the blessing of the devs. All I would like is to be able to move files within ~/.ssh to their appropriate XDG paths and have OpenSSH continue to find these files without me needing to

Modems: Cable or DSL digital blunders that lartc may help with.
I have a Cable ''modem'' that has a problem that many of these devices is bound to have. I was wondering what other lartc user thought about this and if DSL has simular problems. Cable, being Asymetrical, is able to upload at a given rate and hopefully has a buffer, in the modem, of some kind. When I nc(netcat) to a UDP echo, or discard, server I get about 10Mbps out on my

Problem with x-ten lite
Dear Group, At the moment I use SJPhone as my soft phone with Asterisk. I prefer the look and feel of the x-ten lite. However, when ever I use my x-ten lite I get a lot of breakup in my communication. E.g. I will play some hold music, and every 5-6 seconds I drop some packets. I don't have the same issue with SJPhone. I'm sure this is a configuration issues, but I can work

Asterisk 1.00 Call quality problem
I upgraded from RC2 last night, but have a major call quality issue. Heres our setup: 1 FXS and 1 FXO card. Incoming/Outgoing calls via IAX trunking from our provider. G729 running between us and the VoIP provider. Two handsets, one BudgetTone 102 and a Cisco 7940G running the 7.2 SIP firmware. Both these phones are using ULAW to the server, and we have plenty of G729 licenses on the server.

Icecast2 Server Load tests
Hello: Ed Zaleski ran some remarkable and very impressive load tests on icecast reported on www.icecast.org (Home page). What wasn't mentioned in the test specifications was the type of internet line that was used which totally influences bandwidth and subesequent overall load characteristics. Questions: 1. Was it a T1 line, Verizon FIOS, or cable internet, or what? 2. What were the

management of virus and p2p-traffic
Hi I have to manage a network with approx. 200 users, a 256kbit/s unmanaged Internet connection and a 3Mbit/s unreliable managed Internet connection (only http/ftp-proxy and ssh available). All users are in one Class C Subnet with 512 IP-Addresses. 60% of the machines are Windows. The rest are SUN and Linux. At the moment Windows viruses and p2p-traffic eats most of our bandwidth. My Aims are:
