prefork vs worker mpm in apache
Hey guys,
We had to recompile apache 2.4.12 because we needed to disable thread
safety in php (ZTS). Because for some reason when compiling php with the
--disable-maintainer-zts with the worker mpm model and checking the php
info page, it was saying that thread safety was still enabled.
So when we recompiled apache to use the prefetch worker model instead of
worker, the php info page was

Opinion on different web server setups?
This is not directly a Rails question but you lot seem the best to
ask...
I have a strong feeling we will be developing future apps in Rails
(Ruby fans are slowly starting to outnumber cynics in my office) so I
want a web server plan that will be appropriate for that. We have
just bought two new web servers I want to turn into a load-balanced,
redundant pair. As well as any Rails

Apache + fastcgi and rails in vendor
Hi
I want to run my new shiny rail application with apache. Running my

fastcgi.
I downloaded and installed mod_fcgid and have apache running my fcgi
scripts. Now my problems start :-(
I''m running apache on an ubuntu system. The ubuntu packed for ruby and
RoR is not the most recent. As I need the most recent rails

FastCGI vs. Simple CGI
I''ve seen several postings where FastCGI is being used with RoR
projects, yet, most of the material I''ve read (Dave Thomas'' book, online
articles, etc) recommend not using FastCGI anymore because it is a
dormant project and hasn''t been updated since 2003 (I think???).
So, I went out and got Simple CGI instead. It had to be compiled and
installed from

Apache Server Tuning for Performance
Hi all,
I am facing facing performance issues with our web servers which is
working for concurrent 250 requests properly and then stops
responding when the requests are more than 250 .
The current configuration parameters are as follows :
apachectl -version
Server version: Apache/2.0.52
Server built: Jan 30 2007 09:56:16
Kernel : 2.6.9-55.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Apr 20 16:36:54 EDT 2007 x86_64

apache and fcgid
So I decided to just go with apache2 and fcgid. I looked into Mongrel
and apache and I looked into lighttpd and fastcgi and found both to be
too time consuming and not well enough documented for what I''m doing.
My question is, how do I set up apache and fcgid to actually work? I got
apache installed. I think I got fcgid installed (I read somewhere all I
have to do is move the

Again on Apache 2
Hello everybody.
I know, I know, another post about Apache 2, but I have looked a lot on
the internet and I haven''t found the answer to my problem.
I have a Linux Fedora Core 5 box, with Apache 2.2.2 (compiled and
installed), Ruby 1.8.4 (compiled and installed), RubyGems 0.8.11
(compiled and installed) and Rails... I don''t know what version as this

Apache 2.x: Use fcgid or Mongrel?
Hi, There''s lots of stuff going on currently with choices of production
deployment environments. But I''m not clear on a few things as I need to
decide on a production setup where Apache is a given.
A recent thread (http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/56590) seemed to favor
Apache 2 with mod_fcgid. And this is supported in articles such as:

How to provide Rails hosting on Apache/FastCGI enviroment?
Hi, folks.
I am running a small Web Hosting service personally.
I hope to provide rails service on apache/fcgi to my hosting
users. So, I''ve been testing to setup rails application, and
there was no problem. But with Rails version 0.10.0 release,
previous way doesn''t work.
Following is a scenario which worked well before, but now beats me.

Recommendations for Apache 2 with mod_fcgid
Hi,
Have been pulling out my hair for the last few days wondering what I''m
going to deploy my site onto.
I currently have FreeBSD 4.7, Apache 1.3.3, PHP 4 and MySQL 4 running a
year-old PHP site. Dated stuff I know!
The new version of the site will be entirely Ruby on Rails, and I am
wondering what order I should be doing things in terms of upgrades and
installation. I want to be

Folks ...
I have been porting my app from dev environment on Webrick to Apache
with FastCGI. I have the app responding and pulling up the data, but it
is ignoring the "images", "stylesheets", "javascripts" directories
located in the public directory.
I''m running Apache under Suse Linux 9.x. Here is the information that I
have in my vhosts.conf file:

need recommendations for apache configurations
I''m running a rails app on FedoraCore4 and so far have been using
lighttpd and fastcgi. I''ve decided to switch to apache because lighttpd
has been far too unstable, unpredictable, and slow. I don''t know if it''s
lighttpd or the combination of lighttpd and fastcgi but it''s just not
working for me. I need something that has been proven to work and
