Defining the expected behavior of DatabaseStatements.execute()
It would be very helpful if the core team could define and document
the expected behavior of DatabaseStatements.execute(). The
implementations appear to vary. Most adapters will return some sort of
native result set, SQL Server returns nil and expects a block, DB2 and
Sybase return the affected row count.
So please, will someone in core explain the expected behavior and can

Rails Migrations and database views
I have a DB2 schema with many ''views'' and table partitions defined in
it. As per our new project requirement we have to support multiple
databases (DB2,Oracle and MYSQL to be specific). The frontend
application is implemented using Ruby on Rails. I am interested in
exploring the possibility of using Rails Migrations to abstract out
the schema to a DB independent layer. I could

Capgem 0.1 Released
I''ve put up a first release of Capgem on Rubyforge. It''s available under the
MIT license.
Capgem is an extension to Capistrano which adds a pack task to Capistrano so
you can package up your Rails application as a Gem. This is useful if you
are in an environment where Capistrano''s remote deployment tools aren''t an
option. Capgem currently adds start and stop

Need help with ActiveWarehouse-ETL-0.9.1 PG connection problem
I am trying to load conversion data into a postgresql database using
activewarehouse-etl. I can create a flat file output from the
conversion data without problem. However, when I try to load into the
table using the information contained in config/database.yml I see
this error:

Importing Database into Rails App database?
I''m working on an app that uses info from a government database. For a
variety of reasons (not the least of which is that their database is in
MS Access), I can''t simply write a wrapper around the legacy database.
Instead, we''re looking to have an "import" script in the Rails
environment (it''s fine if it''s run from the server and through the

samba and kerberos tickets
Hi,
I'm running a mixed linux/Windows network with authentication done using
Active Directory. The Linux clients use Samba/Winbind for
authentication (with help from the list, thanks!). I've setup smb.conf
such that doing 'net ads join -Uadministrator' populates
my /etc/krb5.keytab (see configuration files below).
klist shows me a nice set of principals from /etc/krb5.keytab

SIP/Polycom Issue, Asterisk 1.2.16, calls dropped
I've been running the 8/1/2004 Head release up until a little over a
week ago. I was forced to due to a card failure to upgrade to 1.2.16
without any advance preparation or testing (most of my connections
are via satellite to all corners of the globe with high latency).
Up until the upgrade I was running with very few issues. Since the
upgrade I have been experiencing strange issues

is there a way to not repeat installing plugins?
i seem to be using the same plugins for all my sites and was wondering
if there is a way to make the process easier and faster?
is this what is called by "packing your own gems"?

Incorporate a shapefile with an package animation
Hello
I'm working with NetCDF files in an animation and am trying to superimpose
a shapefile on the image as it is generates the html pages.
If I take out the lines for the shapefile, it works correctly, however I'm
having difficultly including the shapefile.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Anyone else noticing any TCP Stack requests for information under a

Urgent. upgraded domain to Win2k now samba can't join anymore
Hi,
we upgraded the NT domain to Win2k. However now samba suddenly can't
connect to the domain anymore. Any ideas what we can do? I tried upgrading
to Samba 2.2.1a (was 2.0.7) but that doesn't make any difference.
Tried removind MACHINE.SID from the private directory but that doesn't
help either. When I do smbpasswd -j EDEN -r bison I get the following
output:

ActiveRecord: Reading MySQL views
My production environment is actually Oracle, in which case if I say:
set_table_name "v_table"
It will treat it as a readonly table.
However, doing the same under MySQL throws an
ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid error, saying that the table db.view
doesn''t exist. Is there a way to get around this? I am using MySQL to
test some new code I am working on, and wouldn''t

should use which gateway.
Now I''m stuck with a simpler problem. At home I was just making some

* 1 more tables in rt_tables (200 ping) called "bluff"
* table ''bluff *has not* a default route

correction to the previously asked question (about merging factors)
I have two factors l1, l2, and I'd like to merge them.
(Remark: The factors can not be converted to charaters)
Function c() does not give me the result I want:
> l1 = factor(c('aaaa', 'bbbb'))
> l2 = factor(c('ccc', 'dd'))
> lMerge = factor(c(l1, l2))
> lMerge
