Proxyarp vs DNAT
Hello list,
I am in the process of switching from IPCOP to Shorewall s the firewall
for our small office. I very much like the fact that Shorewall runs on
top of the same OS (openSuSE 11.4) that I run on the server and my desktop.
Our setup is fairly straightforward. We have 8 static ip addresses from
our ISP, which provides a cable modem and a Cisco 800 series router.
The ip addresses are

Multi-ISP :- Multi-Wan Broadband Router Appliance VS Multiple eth Linux routing
Hi all
I need to use three 512 kbps aDSL internet connections, in a load-sharing,
link-failover scenario. Presently I am using Ipcop with a single DSL. Now, I
seem to have two options...one..an Edimax quad wan port adsl router, with
firewalling and NAT and second install a minimal linux distro for
routing...something on the lines of LARTC....and keep NATTING, IDS &
Firewalling on the linux

PPPoE w/ "static" /29 ip range, how is it done?
Hello everyone, I hope this is on-topic for the list...
I''m familiar with NAT, but I can''t see how to route a fully routed LAN.
My new ISP has given me a /29 (I understand this to be 6 addresses +
network address + broadcast address) which I would like to use, as
multiple PCs here want to use p2p and games at the same time, and
reconfiguring the port forwarding all the time

shaping passive ftp traffic
Hi,
I have tried unsuccesfully to limit my ftp server send speed in linux.
I have an ipcop linux firewall/router with 2 nics. 1 nic (eth1) is
connected to a 3mbit/384Kbit cable connection and the other (eth0) a
switch. Behind it i have a suse linux box and a windows box.
On the suse box i run proftpd. I need to shape my passive ftp send
speed to 34KBytes because if it is maxed out at 45K

Advice....
Hi,
I''m a relative newbie to LARTC but I have read Matthew Marsh''s book and
lurked on this list for a while.... I still seem to be missing a few key
ideas here.... So... Maybe folks on the list will be kind enough to help.
I have two different ISPs. Cogent and Bell. I have three different
firewalls (2 PIX and 1 IPCop). And I have an Ubuntu Linux box doing LARTC

Complex Routing/Firewalling/Bridging question
I''m being cast headlong into unfamiliar waters here, and being desperate for
some air, thought I''d come here for some help. :)
Anyway, my employer is going through some whiplash-inducing growth spurts,
and as a result, the simple "Internet T-1 -> Linux Firewall/NAT -> LAN"
setup just isn''t going to cut it anymore.
First, we''re bringing in 2

Force internal re-routing for certain subnets
Hi list,
I have an ipcop 1.3.0 with one regular ip address on its green
(internal) interface 172.25.0.1 with one subnet 172.25.0.0/22 related to
it.
In addition I have assigned two further ip addresses 172.25.64.1. and
172.25.68.1 to right that green network card with two respective further
subnets 172.25.64.0/22 and 172.25.68.0/22 related to each for certain
reasons.
Now I want to force all

R, clinical trials and the FDA
I hope that Marc doesn't mind, but I felt that part of his recent post
was important enough to deserve it's own subject line rather then
being lost in a 60-msg-long thread...

triggering multiple actions on pop-3 request
I want to trigger fetchmail when a user makes a pop-3 request. The
reason for this is so that the messages retrieved by fetchmail can be
filtered via an anti spam service before depositing them into the inbox.
The way I figure it, since I need to know who the user is and that they
authenticated in order to make the correct fetchmail call, I need to
spawn the fetchmail process somewhere

wondershaper
Hi,
I just installed wondershapper 1.1a on my ipcop firewall box. I have
roadrunner cable with a ftp server setup. My download speed is 2mbit (I get
225 KBytes) and my upload is 384kbit (I send at 43 KBytes).
What should the settings in wshaper?
I can ping yahoo.com at 90msec with little traffic.....and at around 220msec
with full upload traffic.

Problem with SysLinux but not with LILO
Hi,
I am trying to use two products that use SysLinux and finally realised the
SysLinux is the cause of my woes. I'm trying to use Freesco and IPCop. IPCop
version 1.3 used a different boot loader to 1.4 which uses SysLinux. I have
been through numerous trials and tribulations in trying to get Freesco to
work but eventually gave up and went with IPCop. I kept getting the "Boot

I know a lot of you are using IPCop where you work. They have three
(3) updates posted, during the past two (2) days. The last one, I'm
getting an error, when I try to Download it, and I will report that to
the IPCop list or bugzilla after I send this message.

Slightly offtopic: IRC channel archives
Hi all.
I fear I''m slightly offtopic with this question, but I''ll keep it short:
who is (or feels) responsible for the #lartc irc-channel in oftc.net?
I''d appreciate if that person would get in contact with me (off-list) in
order to discuss some ideas I have. Thanks in advance.
Bye, Mike

How to deal with pciback?
Hello everybody,
for just one week I try to install three servers on an OpenSuSE 10.3
dom0 equipped with 4 NICs. One server is an OX using the onboard NIC via
xenbr0. This server runs!! For my IPCop server I intended to use the
three remaining NICs (Intel Pro100/S, 3Com 3C590, Realtek RTL-8139).
These three NICs should be used natively by my IPCop. So I tried to use
the pciback driver. I wrote a

Help PLEASE...Multi-Routing for ADSL on Linux: Request for pointers..
Hi all
I am a small business user running my IT infrastructure on Whitebox
linux (RHEL3 clone), with ADSL connectivity with a static ip, using
the ipcop firewall gateway (www.ipcop.org). I run my own web/mail
server as my website usage is not much and I cannot afford to lease a
dedicated server on the net, and leasing a shared server...I lose
control.
My DSL is prone to frequent outages and

proxy server - ipcop vs CentOS
I have purchased a used Compaq DL360 which I was going to use as a proxy
server. Presently, we are using a cheap box with ipcop which is working
fine but it didn't have much RAM (64MB), etc.
This new box we will want to run squid and perhaps dansguardian for
filtering (this is a non-profit company) and I'm wondering if I should
just put ipcop on it or would it be smarter/better to install

Help with bandwith control in a firewall/bridge machine
Hello again,
First, excuse me for my poor english.
I''m trying now to make bandwith control in a firewall machine running
Shorewall. This machine is also a bridge using bridge-utils
bridge-utils-devel. It is a mandrake 10. The configuration is something like

vmware problem took down X on host?
I run VMWare server 1.07 on Centos 5. Last night I left a Windows 2000
virtual machine doing a ClamWin scan of drive M: when I went to bed around
midnight. Drive M: is actually a volume on the Centos 5 host, mounted via
Samba. It has about 40Gb of photos on it, plus a few other things. I had
the VM up visible in the VMWare Server Console running under KDE on display
