Howto route through
Hello list, I''m having a little trouble imagining a setup I''ll soon have. I am in the process of getting a routed /28 to my homeLAN. What I want to do is to put a linux box in front of the lan to filter some of the unneeded and potential dangerous ports. Now the box has 2 nics, one for the inside one for the outside. How should I go on to setup those NICs when a) the PCs in

Hi I want to block the IP traffic between any 2 hosts on a switched ethernet LAN. Will setting all the possible IP addresses on a linux machine in the LAN do the trick or there is another easier solution? -- Anton Glinkov network administrator _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list / LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl http://mailman.ds9a.nl/mailman/listinfo/lartc HOWTO:

should I shape tun[N] or eth0 ?
Greetings, me again. I''m starting to feel miff now. If I have a few vpn tunnels with different tun interfaces. And all this tunnel traffic is coming in on my eth0 interface, it also leave via eth0 again. I would like to share the available bandwidth evenly with tunnel clients. Would applying the bandwidth rule on eth0 with htb & sfq work for sharing the bandwidth or will

How to bond pppoe links
I have three ADSL lines that I''d like to use as one big pipe to the internet. The ADSL service works by establishing a pppoe connection (the ADSL "modem" is a bridge), and each pppoe interface gets its own IP address. This means I''d have to have 4 ethernet interfaces (3 for each of the ADSL modems and 1 for the LAN) in my gateway. I''d setup the gateway to NAT

iptables mark + openvpn will the mark survive ?
Greetings, I want to setup bandwidth restrictions for a few clients that use openvpn to connect to my server. I''m using iptables to mark the packets in the mangle table (PRE/POSTROUTING) on eth0 before they get sent via the tunnel. Will the mark survive even if the packets then get routed via an openvpn tunnel (tunX) out the box or does openvpn change it removing the mark ? damnit,

Interface not marked down when links are down
Hi, I am not sure if this problem has already being posted, but I haven''t found any solution. Excuse me if it''s a repost but would appreciate any pointers. I have newly configured Multipath default route. I have 1 local connection and 4 internet connections. I am using kernel 2.6.7 and have applied Julian''s relevent patches. When the next hop is down,

Duplexing
The recent thread titled: working ftp shaping, i think provided a script example where 100Mbps was specified as the rate for a typical NIC. If that NIC is connected to a switch, chances are that it runs at 100Mbps in each direction concurrently - duplexed Writing a rule that specifies a 100Mbps rate and thereby a 100Mbps ceil, limits the connection to half the available bandwidth. routing question
So far I have been used to using linux to provide simple routing from my network to others using commands such as ip route add 192.168.1.0/24 via 192.168.0.4 etc and it has all worked perfectly. I also use smoothwall GPL to provice vpn services, however I have hit on a problem and am not at all clear on the way in which to proceed. I now need to provide a route to services, the access to these

Sharing bandwidth
Hi there, I''ve got the following problem on my hand..... I''m a sysop for a school in the netherlands. We have a network with 5 different schools (and 1 administration). Each of those have their own ip range in the private network (10.4.0.0 10.5.0.0 and so on). For all these schools we have an internet uplink of 2mbit. And this bandwidth should be shared as fairly as possible.

Newbie question - limit bandwidth of a link.
I just want to limit bandwidth on a particular link. Specifically, one machine (PC1) is on wired LAN and other (PC1) on a WLAN, acess point for which is on the same LAN. Both machines have static ip addresses (AD1 and AD2) and I want to limit the bandwidth utilization of certain udp traffic from PC2 to PC1. Is is possible to do this using iptables and tc (controlling from PC1 as that has both

Using Token Bucket Filter to simulate a low bandwidth radio link
Hello, I am attempting to use the LARTC traffic control to simulate a radio link that has variable bandwidth and availability. The basic bandwidth could be as low as 500 bits/sec but will generally be about 4000 bits/sec. If the simulated radio link is unavailable (zero bandwidth) then packets should be queued until a link is re-established. i.e. Initial bandwidth is 5000bits/sec then to 0

htb & bandwidth sharing
Hi everybody! I''ve been trying with htb and tc filter. It seemed to work fine, but after testing with ethloop I''ve realized that traffic is not being distributed through the leaves as I thought. When sending packets to 1:10 and 1:11 at the same time, there''s no bandwidth sharing. There''s no traffic through 1:11 until traffic through 1:10 has finished. Though

Marking ftp inbound traffic is impossible ?
Hello, I searched the archives mailing list of LARTC. Everyone discussed about marking outbound ftp traffic . I could not find any thread discussed about marking inbound ftp traffic. With inbound ftp traffic , we don''t know the random ports specified by ftp servers in passive mode ? So marking inbound ftp traffic is impossible ? If it is possible, can you tell me, Thanks in

Fair bandwidth sharing
Hi all, I have been playing with tc trying to share the available bandwidth fairly between all the terminals in my internet cafe. I spend a while and had some help and setup some htb classes on my outgoing interface, I has now dawned on me that this will only shape the outgoing traffic, and if someone starts a large download, all the available incomming bandwidth will be used by the one

Fair Bandwidth sharing with HTB and EFSQ
I downloaded the HTB and ESFQ packages and installled the patched kernel and tools. Now can someone give me an example how to configure my system so that the 512Kbit are fairly divided for each computer ? Assume that eth0 is the interface on the WAN side and eth1 on the LAN side. [Patch] credit: Update other parameters when setting tslice_ms
From: Nate Studer <nate.studer@dornerworks.com> Add a utility function to update the rest of the timeslice accounting fields when updating the timeslice of the credit scheduler, so that capped CPUs behave correctly. Before this patch changing the timeslice to a value higher than the default would result in a domain not utilizing its full capacity and changing the timeslice to a value lower

ALTQ - Bandwidth Manager
Hi, I have to port ALTQ(Alternate Queueing) software form the FreeBSD to QNX. It''s more like a bandwidth manager. Since I am new to this domain, any kind of help will be useful. I have many doubts like * What exactly is a bandwidth manager * Where will it sit in the OS * How will it be implemented. Thanks in advance Prajith.

Single bandwidth pipe
Hi all, Can someone help me in creating a single bandwidth pipe out of two or more bandwidth providers. Say, I have 2 internet connections 1) 128 K 2) 128 K I want to use both of them on a single linux box. Is there any way to do so. Of course loadbalancing can be done, but I don''t want loadbalancing. I want to have a single pipe of 256 K. Some time back I was suggested to use squid on
